The one main problem with the Abrams, they require a good amount of maintenance. You need parts availability and a good number of services team. Having that many F16 is unrealistic without a good infrastructure, maintenance team support, and good air defense system. But. What I understand is that these F16 will be equipped with long-range missiles, too destroyed military infrastructure deep inside Russia.

@tarikcollins778 The Russians don't know if nukes will be loaded on any F16s that might arrive in Ukraine. That's the point, and they will make sure those jets don't get airborne. As far as causing any real pain to the Russians, that is highly doubtful. This ain't Iraq, where US jets had 100'% control of the skies and didn't have to worry about anti-air defenses. Russia has by far the densest and most integrated air defensive grid in the world, as the Ukranian air force found out. Not to mention F16s in previous roles typically had AWACS flying overhead providing targeting coordinates. Eastern Ukraine will be a completely different animal than any previous missions F16s have encountered.

Not sure from where this figure of 300 F16 came from ,NATO promised 86 planes all together .The main issue for this planes even before start talking about mantainance,pilots , air defence ,air fields is most of the F16 promissed are generation 1994 and 2004 .Obsulete models ,little to no flight hours left before the airframe is bend with no chance of repairing, no ammunition ,no fuel and easy to detect.Not understand why people consider F16 wonder weapon is beyond me we are talking for plane which was put in explotation in 1976???? The Russian army knows how to deal with tanks, planes, missiles ... so it is crazy to put emphasis on large numbers of one tool. They have less success against defences such as ATGM, MANPADS, Air defense, mines and against drones and sabotage. Ukraine needs to wear down the Russians much more rather than focus on attack tools. The constant advertisement of new weapons and fielding them one at a time makes life easier for the enemy.

I'm surprised the US/Ukraine haven't pressed Pakistani Taiwanese,Jordanian, South Korean and Japanese pilots into serving in the UAF, since all of these countries pilots operate f-16s of some Block variant (A,B,C D or other), depending on their defence budget/ genaral economy. Pakistani F-16 pilots are feared by most forces including Indian pilots because of their levels of operating competency and aggressive hunter/killer flying tactics as are the South Korean jocks. The UAF could field 5 or 6 squadrons with pilots (60-70 gen 4 fighters) fairly easily from these countries with the blessings of the USAF and they're both not in NATO, none of the above nations are.The issue will be for Blinken to convince these governments to allow for the pilot.transfers. Pakistani pilots have served in such roles in Mid-East wars( Arab/Israeli wars), as have Jordanian and UAE pilots, so that might be a starting point. I guess the US has maybe already canvassed this idea and was given a firm No!

They've been promising Ukraine for the last 18 months.. just having a good air strip for take off and landing is a logistical nightmare, parts are also problematic. Maintenence also. Pilots arnt trained to fly them.
