The reason Darknuts have a beetle insignia on their chestplate is obviously because they're being mass produced by Beetle and then being sold to both the royal family and Ganon, what we should really have is a theory on Beetle's shady business tactics

If large dangerous lizards were supposed to wear those suits of armor then it would make sense that the mansion would be placed in a part of the world where it would be hard for a reptile to survive on its own outside of the mansion walls. Not many reptiles are suited for such freezing and harsh conditions. If one were to somehow escape then it would definitely die within a day, insuring that nobody would ever find out what was happening there.

I remember back in 2006, the first time I played TP. When I got to snowpeak, I didn't even realize it was a temple until the boss fight started. It's so we'll integrated into the mountain, I thought I was just exploring. I must have missed the map and compass or something, but the boss fight starting and realizing I was in a temple is one of my favorite Zelda memories. The bedroom key was the boss key all along.

Honestly, Snowpeak is my absolute favorite dungeon. Most dungeons have no business existing or being designed the way they are outside of game purposes, but Snowpeak just seamlessly fits into the world where there is no question that it belongs, it is just a question of its history.

@@philosophicaljay3449 I've recently been playing Twilight Princess again. Snow Peak, while I went through the dungeon itself pretty easy, the ice and snow enemies it had were actually a challenge for me. In my most recent play through I have walked through enemies like they aren't there, the sword gameplay in TP is pretty addicting and I have learned all but one of the hidden skills and I put them to use frequently. But the snow enemies actually managed to get me down two hearts! Something not even the foes in arbiters grounds were able to do! I found that to be quite entertaining as the enemies in the other dungeons were almost too easy lol. I'm in the Temple of Time now :)

I hope Darknuts are in Botw 2 and harder or at least more common than Lynels. We don’t have enough humanoid or elite warrior-like enemies in Botw. Most of them fight very crudely or are too inhuman to really make a comparison, like Lynels. Darknuts, Dark Link, more humanoid fighters that give Link a challenge through 1 on 1 combat. Maybe even have variants that use spears or hammers or axes or even one with a bow. Food for thought.

I've always loved the Snowpeak ruins. The atmosphere in this building is one of my favorite kinds of atmospheres of any setting. It gives that creepy feeling upfront. Everything is so nice looking, but its abandoned, and simply falling apart due to its age. You'd expect this kind of "cozy" setting to be flipped on its head at any moment, like learning that it's haunted or that monsters lurk everywhere. While Snowpeak Ruins does that to a degree, for most of the dungeon, it just shows a cold and desolate mansion, left to the peace of age to be inevitably forgotten. It gives that sense of morbid peace, you know that something terrible happened to this place in the past, but now that's over and it's quiet and peaceful.

@Joocy Really? What dungeon mechanics of Snowpeak Ruins do you not like?
@petery6432
@petery6432 4 жыл бұрын
@Joocy The thing is, it does meet the requirements of a standard dungeon, like having puzzles, combat, a mini-boss, a Boss, and good length. I think the reason it's loved so well is because it can be framed as a dungeon, yet doesn't feel like one. Also, you have to collect stuff in other dungeons, like Poes in the Ocarina Forest Temple, or the sols in the Palace of Twilight, so I don't really see the issue there, particularly because it's one of the most entertaining "Collect certain items to continue" style dungeon.

#1: It has a dungeon map called “Dungeon Map” #2: It has a mini boss, boss, and a treasure you get at the end, which is what a normal dungeon contains. #3: You have to go though a series of puzzles to get to each place. #4: It has many rooms, and in which are many monsters. #5: There’s a compass to the dungeon, like there is in a lot of LoZ games. #6: There’s a special tool you have to get and use to defeat the boss. Yeah, I think it’s a dungeon @Joocy
@GreenLink500
@GreenLink500 3 жыл бұрын
A dungeon is a series of rooms/puzzles that one has to complete to find a certain item/place, and throughout the puzzles there are mini bosses that sometimes give you the item that is key to defeating the main boss. And, to get/get to the item, you must defeat the boss, which normally has a large life force or doesn’t and just has a barrier or something similar to one. To defeat the boss, one sometimes needs a certain weapon, like in this dungeon where Link needs the ball and chain, which he gets from the mini boss Darkhammer. Once the character defeats the main boss of the dungeon, then you get the item your looking for most of the time. What I mean by most of the time is that sometimes other characters say to go here to get something but it’s not there, like in this dungeon. In this dungeon, The yeti sends you to puzzles all around the map to find the key, but after a while you find it

I recently had a friend take a look at the Japanese, and it translates as this - --- ハイラルの北の山、スノーピーク・・・あれは私の知るような山とは違う “Snowpeak, Hyrule's northern mountain… The place is different than the mountain I knew.” --- This strengthens the implication that Ashei knows about this mountain, but that it's become unrecognizable to her. I think it's very likely Snowpeak was her home.

My theory has always been that it was Link's. While we know that his actions of Majoras Mask and OOT were forgotten by all, he fell in favour of Zelda who would trust him as a friend. If we go off the sculpture, we see that Link was an ambassador of sorts, initiating first contact with the Ooccaa, the Rito, and also being an ambassador to the Gorons and the Zora. In Twilight Princess we see that Link trusted the Gorons with his bow, and in OOT we see that he saved the King of the Zoras' daughter. Also, an ambassador would be the one of the few people aware of the Ooccaa and Raru, which are pictured in the mansion. If we assume that those in the armour are protectors of the Royal family, it suggests that Snowpeak was both Link's house, and a fortress with a guard of soldiers ready to protect from an unknown enemy from the snowier regions. I also think we could draw a link between Link's supposed death in combat, and the falling apart of the mansion, with no other knights willing to take ownership of what they believe is a waste of time, with no threat after all This has precedent in medieval times too, often Knights would be granted plots of land and castles, as long as they also functioned as military outposts and fortresses Edit: The sculptures in Castle Town depicting the rito and Ooccaa

Unfortunately the sculptures have been revealed to be a fun design made by one of the western people who helped with the TP HD version. He said it told a story he wished happened in the games, but never did. As much as I wished they were canon and told of an unseen backstory. But otherwise I'd say that's a good theory.

My thought: Snowpeak Ruins is a "summer cottage" for the Royal Family that also worked as a training ground for elite Hylian knights - those who guarded Zelda directly (a 2-fer). As ages passed it fell out of favor and was abandoned. As for the giant suits of armor - Magical "Robots" - armor imbued with the simple order "protect from intruders". After all, if you want the elite of the elite knights, what better place for them to train than a frozen Hell-on-Hyrule that would break all-BUT the best. And what better place to train in secret - away from the prying eyes of the people/other nations under the guise of a "summer getaway" spot. It would then also stand to reason that my idea of a "magical robot armor" research would also happen here - away from prying eyes in a place normal knights consider inhospitable, remote in case of an accident... Heck, postulating further, one might even argue that the "summer lodgings for past Princess/Queen Zelda's" was just a cover for her direct ancestors magic knight experiments. Magic Knight Hyrule? Probably stole the idea from Cephiro...

The manga is basically an alternate canon heavily influenced by notes from Nintendo and its developers. Ashei's backstory was likely intended this way, but not well documented within the game itself. Okay so I know I'm a bit late but I have to share this theory. I heard it in a video called "The evolution of the Zoras" made by a French KZbinr named "Rinkuto". In this theory, Rinkuto says that Snow peak ruins may have been built by the royal family of Hyrule right after the events of Ocarina of Time (Childhood Timeline, of course) after Link denounced Ganondorf to the princess Zelda. As we know, Ganondorf launches an attack on Hyrule Castle, after Zelda explained the situation to the king. Well, according to this theory the Snow peak ruins were built as a stronghold by the royal family to both stock weaponry and form Zora warriors to war, hence the coat of arms similar to the Knight's Academy of Skyloft in Skyward Sword. Indeed, if we get a closer look on the map of TP, Zora territory is right next to the Gerudo wastelands, the Snow peaks being the only region maintaining the two territories appart. In the theory the Snow peak could be what remains of the Zora Fountain, hence the frozen lake at the bottom of the mountain. According to him, Morpha's malediction (the ice malediction of the aquatic boss of the water temple in Oot) could've simply been an acceleration of the climate course of the area, which means that when Link defeated Morpha, the course of time went back to normal and, years later, when the Gerudos declared war to Hyrule, the Zora's Domain being endangered, the royal family could've built this stronghold in the middle of the mountain still liveable at the time. That would explain queen Rutela's portrait hung right next to Rauru's one, in the hall of the mansion. When the was was over, the royal family's help would've strengthen the bond and the alliance between the Zoras and the royal family, which appears in form of trust from the Zoras, hence the opening of the Zoran domain to visitors, in TP, whereas in Oot, the domain was only accessible to members of the royal family. It would also explain the militarisation of the Zoras in TP, that are far more armed than in Oot. Lastly, with time, after the migration of Gerudos and the trial of Ganondorf, the stronghold was no longer needed and the mountains were increasingly getting colder as the natural course of climate continues, that's when it started to fall into ruins and become the home of a couple of yetis... So there you go this is roughly the theory, translated from French to English, sorry if there're mistakes, I don't master perfectly the language...Hope you liked it!

From this video, I have conceived my own theory regarding darknuts and related enemies in general: they are monsters that anyone with a mastery of magic can create, although it may take a lot of time to perfect their creation and the process is not standardized, leaving a lot room for unique specifications, and for experiment. Long ago, someone figured out how to create artificial warriors, and since then, the knowledge had spread, and at some point in time, the royal army was the most prominent users of darknuts.

I think it is possible that there was a faction among the Royal Family that was able to tame monsters and modify them, maybe with the help of the Sheikah. The DarkHammers and the DarkKnuckles could have been loyal to them to the point where no one would fear them, but the dark influence of Ganondorf might have made them attack their former masters, just like how Ganon turned the Guardians against Hyrule in Breath of the Wild.

I always thought of the Snowpeak Mansion as a safe house for the royal family in case of war. If Hyrule were ever attacked and Castle town came under threat of being conquered, then the Royal family could be evacuated. If you look at a map of Hyrule from Twilight Princess you can see that Snow Peak is a straight shot North west from the castle. There once possibly could have been a path/road way to the Mansion that few knew about. But over time, as the threat of war diminished, I can see the Mansion being abandoned and the roadway there being covered up by nature over time. The large armor could be used by friendly Gorons. The armor is big enough for them and mountainous terrain is nothing to them.

So some quick thoughts: Snowpeak Ruins was actually an outpost from the Termina Hyrulians. If you look at the banners you'll notice that there are four snow flakes in the cardinal directions hinting at the notion that they worshiped the four Giants. Hyrulians from Termina were also more science and tool reliant compared to their counterparts which worshiped the Goddesses and Magic. This would explain why there are cannons and weapons not seen anywhere else besides the "weapon stores". If you also look at the enemies present in Snowpeak Ruins there are a lot of Chilfo's upon the keep's walls and outdoor areas. It could be a possibilities that these were the original owners of the surplus of armor we see through out the game before they were twisted by Ganondorf. They wield a spear similar to that seen in the Hyrule castle, have horn like protrusion on their heads similar to how the later armor and darknuts appear. Also Chilfos are only found in Snowpeak ruins. They also appear with White Wolfos acting very much like a hunting party sometimes. It could quite possible that this was a neutral grounds for meeting between the two Hylians. Hence the lush interior and defensive posture of the ruins.

@@alejandroantoniovaladezuva4504 Possibly. The Hero's Shade is rumored to have also been a knight, though as a boy he likely would have been able to at least equal one in single combat. I think the race of giantlike warriors may have interbred with Hylians at some point, and the exceptional warriors (accomplished knights and the hero) may be descended from an unadulterated line or even an adulterated one (where somewhere an ancestor was genetically...played with). Then again, in TP, Link is still a teen, though an older one. About 16, 17, or 18 maybe? Looking at older humans/humanoids in the Zeldaverse from previous games, the ones who would appear to have an advantage health-wise over their peers seem to be taller, broader and/or more athletic, either by genetic disposition or they look after their wellbeing more. Maybe Hylians and races they are compatible with change differently as they age and it's simply more apparent when the individual takes exceptionally good care of themselves?

Also, there are a some characters that tower over Link that can easily wear that armor like any of the Kings of Hyrule or Ganondorf, suggesting that some hylians can grow that big. In Ocarina of Time we even see Nabooru wearing the Iron Knuckles armor so we can assume that even a normal-size person can wear those.

I thought so too, then again, BOTW2 seems to possible point to the Shiekah/Royal Family using Ganondorf's body as an energy generator for the Kingdom - Nintendo has never shy'd away from putting the odd dark bit in a Zelda game. Dark Nuts could also be Hyrulean Knights made large/evil by the Mirror of Twilight/Ganondorf's influence... thus the accessories and weapons of the new monsters might have been twisted and enlarged with them.

Well, the royal family had a somewhat darker side ever since OOT and they are never characterized as "the good guys". They are mainly characterized as "doing what is necessary to protect their realm". They are not tyrants towards their own subjects, but they also are not characterized as caring too much for other races or standards of morals, if the safety of their domain is threatened. This is clearly demonstrated by the Shadow Tempel and The Bottom of the Well in OOT and the connections to the Sheika and thus the royal family found there. Creating the Darkhammer and Darknuts kind of fits with this "what ever it costs" attitude.

They aren't dumb, the royal family KNOW that both they AND their subjects would pay the price if they wind up being taken over by a hostile and likely malevolent force, which again, we've seen multiple times said price in different forms, and honestly, I can't blame them. not to mention they're at least smart enough to make sure their subjects are happy and content since, well we know how in being paranoid about Sheikah Magitek the Sheikah wound up with a rogue faction that now serves as the King of Evil's very own Ninja and Samurai flavored followers: the Yiga clan! ...In all honesty I kinda want to slap the idiot Royal who thought pissing off the tribe of their subjects who serve as Hyrule's very own Ninja's/Samurai was a smart move cause they should've known demanding the Sheikah to give up their magitek completely would've had some of them getting pissed off enough for Ganondorf to be able to capitalize and get his own force of Ninja's/Samurai to counter the Sheikah... even if it seems that while the rank and file alongside some of the officers are competent and frightening foes to face it's leadership by BOTW 1... ehhh it seems to not exactly be at the best of standards with Kohga in charge which I kinda hope BOTW 2 changes... preferably with him winding up meeting and getting a massive powerup by Ganondorf since, well he at least managed to SURVIVE Link fighting him which is more than a lot of Ganondorf's other followers can say and Zant's a perfect case regarding a powerup by ol' Dorf not to mention this would be a case of Link screwing up thinking Kohga's out of the picture until he's back... and supercharged by the bane of his and Zelda's existence. likely with an even more powerful and dangerous Yiga Clan!

One thing that I must say: even though a variant of the knight's crest or Hylian eagle appears on the Dark Nut's Armor, look at its belt. Most visible at 19:25 you can see the insignia of some horned creature, either with a gaping mouth or large nose, which reminds me of some depictions of Ganon.

I had really expected them to bring up how the Darknuts were depicted in The Wind Waker, since I believe this is the only time in which we ever see such an enemy’s actual exposed head and body. Granted, that is a different timeline, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that they couldn’t be related. I would venture to argue that the Darknuts in The Wind Waker were a major inspiration for the Darknuts in Twilight Princess in the overall size, fighting style, and method of defeating them, so perhaps the idea of more anthropomorphic creatures in such armor was a trend in The Legend of Zelda as a whole. Although we see the reptilian Lizalfos and Dinolfos as a recurring enemy, we never really see similar canine enemies like these Darknuts elsewhere.

@@LivingParadox87 In the first Zelda games Moblins had bull dog looking faces. But as the games went on the Moblin began to get more and more pig like, I especially like their look Wind Waker, a massive pig ,built like sylvester stallone in the arms but over weight in the torso, carrying a pole arm and lantern patrolling the areas of the dungeon. Their pig look also ties in with Ganon more too.

17:55 Well, we're (Humans) slowly evolving to be taller each generation. You children will most likely be a small bit taller than you. So maybe the Darknuts are decendents of Humans who lived in areas where being tall was needed to live, and Hylians and Average-Sized Humans kept living normally.

I would agree, if not for OOT's Spirit Temple. The Gerudo fortress and the temple are my favorite in any of the games. I mean, there is a sub plot built in with nabooru spanning the 7 year gap, the aesthetic vibe of the temple, the mirror shield (obviously), Iron Knuckles, Twinrova-the most interesting boss(es) in the game, the music, and just the gameplay itself made this my absolute favorite!

This was one of my favourite dungeons from my favourite Zelda game. When I realized that BoTW was set in the same timeline as Twilight Princess after seeing the Arbiters Grounds, I was disappointed to not find even a trace of the snow peak ruins. It makes sense that it would be gone since it was located one of the harshest places of Hyrule alongside not having any upkeep for most likely centuries, but I would’ve like to at least see the bridge leading to seemingly nothing.

Thanks for making this video it was great! A theory I came up with regarding the purpose of the huge suits of armor in the mansion is maybe the royal family was using the piece of the mirror to bring power to regular orcs or small monsters and then fitting them with armor. They possibly were able to control the power of the mirror but before long it could not be contained and abandoned the mansion. This was on of the multiple events that led to the downfall of Hyrule and ultimately the events of Twilight Princess with Zant/Ganondorf overtaking the kingdom.

I like the theory that it’s the ruins of an old training academy which makes the most sense and has the most visible evidence for that theory Ive always loved how mysterious and ambiguous the lore is in the Zelda series by the way it lets you fill in the gaps with theories of your own imagination especially as to what the history of the dungeons are Also If you haven’t already can you please do a video theory on the City in the Sky next? To me that’s the most mysterious and creepiest dungeon in Twilight Princess besides SnowPeak and the Aribiter Grounds I have a theory that the City in the Sky might be one of the remnant floating islands from the Skyloft days and it’s so ancient that only Ooco and Lizalfos now are it’s only occupants (It’s been a while since I’ve played TP so I could be wrong and there’s just lore about it that I just forgot)

I mostly agree with this theory, but the notion that Darkhammer is reptilian, based solely on the concept art, still bothers me. Concepts are often very different from the end result, and the reptile design has a lot of differences from the final design, from head shape to stance.

I'm not sure if I agree in this case honestly (for the reasons Ming and Succu pointed out), but "concept art/unused content is not necessarily canon" I think is something a lot of people tend to forget. You don't have to take a Death of the Author stance to recognize that even if concept art, content left in the files or stray ideas from a dev seems to confirm something, there may be a reason it wasn't spelled out in the final product.

I think that the animate darkhammer could have simply been the work of the mirror of twilight. I mean, we've seen what it can do to people, to be able to bring inanimate objects to life doesn't seem that far-fetched.
