2:17 we probably have seen those stories already given the team's penchant for reviving old, discarded ideas in new games many years later such as the horseback combat from OOT showing up in TP. Or the dual timeline mechanic of OOT which was an idea from the early development of the very first Zelda game. In fact with how out of step SS was with the rest of the franchise on its first release I'd wager that that particular game was influenced by the development of Crossbow Training.

Miyamoto‘s interest in making a game fun above all else is something of a double-edged sword, and I feel as if his pedigree sometimes gives him too much power to dominate in the game development process. His mere suggestions carry more weight than entire teams’ worth of planning. Good gameplay is something that’s absolutely needed for a solid foundation for a game, but his insistence on story being unimportant is something I feel harms his projects in the long run. Link’s crossbow training is fun for a couple hours, but is a literal fire and forget experience; it’s the stories, the characters, the worlds and art, that really stick with you in the long run. When people think of majora’s mask, they think of the hopelessness of the scenario, the endless repetition of the end of the world, the emotional impact of living in other people’s shoes, and the shame, horror, and tragedy of being introduced to a weird and wonderful world only for it to be robbed of its right to exist in a mere three days. The gameplay is important and makes a lot of this possible, but it’s the vehicle by which to experience this world, not its be-all end-all. Miyamoto’s design philosophy often confuses the vehicle through which to experience things for the destination itself, and I feel that is a flaw he largely disregards.
@PyraJya-LuquayКүн бұрын
One of the biggest problems I had with Link's Crossbow Training is that a crossbow would've fit as a replacement for Link's traditional bow in a TP sequel or possibly an upgrade to it since the crossbow was created as an attempt to give better firepower to traditional bows with mechanical components that have a stronger pull than the human arm is normally capable of (at least until firearms became more practical, which didn't really happen until about the 1800s). It should have never been the actual gimmick. Heaven knows I'd love to see Link using a crossbow in an actual mainline game.

Personally, i think they should revisit the idea of sequel side games. When a zelda game gets completed, take a portion of the dev team, and task them with reusing the assets to make a game focused on the recovery of hyrule after the end of the main game. Link goes around doing quests to help people, engages in new mini games, and the player can see the fruits of their original labor. I think a lot of people would go for that, rather than another remake. Instead of remaking the same content, it would allow for a steady stream of NEW content. And if they must make it feel epic, they can work in people trying to take advantage of the power vacuum that would exist in almost every plot.

I actually owned this game, as it was given to me as a gift. However, I never got to play it because it was purchased used, and didn't come with the zapper to properly play it with, and at the time I couldn't get a zapper used to go along with it, so I just ended up selling the game back to Gamestop. To this day, it is a game that I would like to repurchase and play someday should I ever find it again, and actually be able to get a zapper with it.

I honestly really hope the next Zelda game is a true sequel to Twilight Princess, this time with a huge Hyrule to explore, and of course, a revamped twilight realm as the second world. Give it the best graphics you can to make it pop and really showcase the power of switch 2.

I would’ve liked to see Termina depicted by the TP graphics in a new game or some new dimension Link travels to. I had never heard of this shooting game till now.

really fun video. This game is very weird and gimmicky, but it's undoubtedly a fun time! I have some really good memories with this one.

I've only tried this once when I visited a friend many years ago, and it was really fun! I don't think the issue is that it exists. My opinion is that the issue is that it didn't exist in a group of other similar mini-games.

Never played it forgot it existed and am now sad knowing this was the twilight princess sequel since twilight princess is my favorite zelda game

I'm still down for a Twilight Princess sequel, even after all these years.

Considering that within 5 years, we had twilight princess, phantom hourglass, spirit tracks, and skyward sword, Link's crossbow training focusing on just being a fun game is nice. Nintendo's willingness to experiment and focus on fun is why we get many great games that get to have their own identity

Twilight Princess definitely deserved a proper sequel. My hope is that the success of a sequel like Tears of The Kingdom makes them consider revisiting this game.

I got LCT on clearance for like $15 in the mid 2010's, and despite the excitement of the deal, returning to the Wii with a new toy, Twilight Princess being my first & mozt nostalgic Zelda, and shooters being my favorite genre, i never finished it for the same reason... I felt robbed of a Midna's Mask.

2:20 Miyamoto by this point had to be ignored. That 80s style of game development wasn't going to work any more. Narrative and gameplay needs to be woven into each other. Or else go back to making arcade cabinets.
@BigRoyBadКүн бұрын
There's absolutely still room for narrative-light or even no-narrative games. Balatro became a huge favorite even in this era and cleaned up at the game awards exclusively based on its addictive gameplay and casual appeal.

A great way for link to hold a gun is turning tactical weapons into zonai devices.

If they had made something like Quake but in Hyrule, I would have been all for it. Giant dungeons laid out like Quake levels connected with Twilight Princess's overworld with classic Zelda item-progression might have made for, in my (very niche personal) opinion, one of the best games ever made lol

Hmm, if Link apparently had crossbow training, it would be nice to be able to use crossbows in future games!

LCT is actually a pretty sick game though. I can’t really gripe about Miyamoto tbh. Dude has given us everything. I’ll let this one slide.

I have a vague memory of watching my dad play this. But I can't say for sure whether or not he actually did. This is a pretty cool concept, though. Would have been nice if it had room to become something larger.

while you already told i think this would have been better use for a starfox game almost similiar to starfox adventure for gamecube but where fox and the crew would battle in land with guns and addd some space missions where you use the zapper to control the ship and for legend of zelda something more different like exploring the twilight realm either by something happening there or like just like majora mask where link is drag in by a new enemy or something like that
@NoNameBoi99872 күн бұрын
Terminator link is an amazing idea and Nintendo needs to revisit it.

Feel like Miyamoto has had just as many horrible blunders as he's had epic successes.

All of the people here, including Zeltik himself, saying that they would have rather gotten a TP sequel instead of Crossbow Training, are missing one crucial thing: A real sequel would have taken a lot of time (I would argue even more than Majors Mask back then) - time that they used on creating Skyward Sword instead. So we didn't just lose something, we also got something instead! Not just Crossbow Training, but a brand-new Zelda title including mechanics, lore etc. Of course you could now argue that you'd prefer a TP sequel over SS, but my point is that the amount of games in total would probably have been the same. And SS brought a lot of new things to the series that a TP sequel probably wouldn't have.

I feel like the Crossbow Training could have been part of the main game (Twilight Princess) if the developers would have had more time to implement it. I feel like this would have been great as a way to make the Hyrule Field more lively. If I remember correctly, LCT plus the Zapper was 20 Euros / 20 Dollars, so I don't think you can complain too much. And yet, I agree that a true extension of Twilight Princess would have been better.

Despite the fact most people my age played Ocarina of Time as their first Zelda game, TP is my actual first. While it is not my favorite, though not by much, I love the game. I remember at the time people kept asking for a sequel for it. Interesting that Tears of the Kingdom had the opposite treatment.

If we didn’t have Link’s crossbow training, we wouldn’t have had the most fun moveset in hyrule warriors so I think its existence is justified.

People don't talk that much about the many crazy ass Miyamoto ideas, good thing some people at Nintendo were able to filter a lot of them out 😂
