Ramji Shivhare The condition for Zenor doide to be act as an voltage regulator is that the applied voltage across the zenor diode must be greater than the rated zenor voltage so that we can get the constant output vz at load resistance. Hope u understand

@@thecalm_soul If we consider load is equal to 3K ohm then calculate Vth. Vth is 12V. Since 12 > 10 zener diode in breakdown region.Since Zener is a voltage regulator voltage across load will remain 10 volts only.Use Nodal analysis. IR =(16-10)/1000= 6mA. Since Voltage across load is 10 volts, IL =10/3k =3.33m. Apply KCL in order get current through zener diode Iz=(6-3.33)mA=2.67mA. Pz =(Iz*Vz)=2.67*10=26.67mW.

VL=10Volts ; IL=3.34mA ; Iz=2.66mA and Pz=26.66 mW i have doubt though what if in some case i get Pz greater than maximum power diode could dissipate ...how would i solve such question ? ?

why did you change the polarity of voltage replacing the diode? in reverse biasing you had to mark the upper terminal as negative and lower as positive...

as we know in reverse bias mode p type semiconductor is connected to -ve end of supply.. but in this case +ve terminal is connected to the p type.. I didn't get it.. is it because zener diode..?

Sir Vth=VL=I*RL=4×3=12V the first step u did to find out whether the diode is on or off. i worked out the way you did but if VL= 12V then Vl is not equal to Vz right sir?

Sir when u replace zehar diode with its equivalent modal (as a constant voltage source) when zenar diode is on then polarity should be opposite what u wrote there because we consider that triangle of diode with +ve terminal and that line of diode as -ve terminal neso academy please clear my dabut

First u calculate Vr=Vi-Vz=16-10=6volts Then calculate Ir=Vr/R=6/1=6mA Then calculate I(rl)=Vz/(rl)=10/3=3.33mA You will have Iz=Ir-I(rl)=6-(3.33)=2.67mA There you go

Sir What's the difference between Vth and Vz? And zener conducts in reverse bias condition but why the diode is open circuited? In the problem.

Kota Sriveni The difference between the vz and vth in above lecture is vz is the maximum output voltage that Zenor diode can give, but in order to give zenor output voltage constant the applied input voltage to the zenor must be greater than the vz. Then only the zenor diode will turn on . So to find input zenor voltage we find vth.

Doubt .. !!! In the two cases discussed for fixed voltage and resistance--- Since we are talking about the negative region... In case 1 when Thevnin's voltage is greater than or equal to Zener voltage the zener diode must be OFF. And when the Thevnin's voltage is lesser then the zener voltage the diode should be ON

No. This is not a thevenin theorem sum.We are finding Vth to find out the voltage across the zener diode.

Answer for vl is must same as vth (7.27m A × 1.2k ohm = 8.72) but you mention it wrongly 8.64v... If any one noticed than hit a like

Yeah kindly explain which one is correct ! I think both methods are correct bcz diode and RL are in parallel and hence the voltage should be same .. tell me if m wrong

He has wrongly written that one. 7.27mA x 1.2kiloohm = 8.724 volts, instead he has written 8.64 volts.

How your V(load) and V(thevenins) coming different as both are equal to 7.27mAx1.2 Kohms. You have calculated V(thevenins) = 8.72 V whereas V(load) = 8.64 V. Being both in parallel both should be same.
