How tight must their budget be if they don't have the cashflow to upgrade half a dozen servers in a more timely manner? Is the game really that unprofitable? I was passionate. Stayed through all the performance problems, the stupid set decisions, the loss of population, the lack of content, the lack of rewards, the loss of friends. 2yrs ago I had over 3k hrs in the game. My play time is at about 3 days a month now and most of the time its for less than an hr.

That Guar Pet seemed like a subtle slight against us tbh. I read it's description and I was surprised to find out that It's literally the only Guar Pet in the entire Game described as being "dumb" ( I checked before typing this) description of it says "Though you know it's just going to grow up and become big, dumb, scaly livestock, how can you resist those lizard-calf eyes" they basically just admitted it was a dumb gift. and are treating us like little kids that would fawn over a "cute wittle guar pet" when we're genuinely and reasonably Pissed Off about serious performance issues....

Truthfully, I am convinced at this point that they have done nothing about the code re-architecture. They are probably just minimizing their cost, and trying to maximize the games profit for rest of its lifetime. And I believe unless they see a huge drop in ESO plus memberships, and profit margins, they will just go along with things. I have personally canceled my ESO + membership and most people should do the same. So the message is actually impactfully delivered to them.

Nothing but respect for pvp players that still play this game. I had to step away in September after playing since launch. I think the lack of new pvp content, current meta and the bad moral the devs have made just made me fed up of the game. Couldn't play for longer than an hour before getting bored. It's understandable that the playerbase doubts anything Zenimax says regarding the server performance of this game. This I can say for sure: to any Zenimax employee reading this: if you do actually end up upgrading the servers AND the performance gain is substantial, it's safe to say that I and many other players will throw themselves and their wallets at this game. I would happily take a content drought for this game if it means a faster track to better server performance. There is so much to do in this game that I can live with it.

I started with this game in the closed beta in 2013. This project that was such an incredible experience in the beginning (despite having tremendous amounts of bugs and balance problems back then as well), has devolved slowly and painfully past the point of salvage. In my opinion, it was beyond repair all the way back in 2016-17. It was always going to end poorly with such an inept and truly misguided dev team, but you hate to see something you used to love die in such an embarrassing way.

My thoughts: While It would be nice, we should hold off on this PVP talk and bulldog them about getting the core game direction right. With the servers and crown store/ Gameworld content distribution. Hit them with too much varied shit and they will cover in silence and never update anything as it's been going. We need to get them focused on finishing what they "started" with no slack. Get them on a road map. This is an amazing game held hostage by a bad dev team, if they run it into the ground there will be no pvp to fix. Get the foundation back in shape first.

I can't help but feel that the overall lack of quality of the content, lack of communication, and the lack of new content for PvP is payback for the players complaining about the game. The hardware is mostly about the cost of purchasing it and its availability. Installing it is a different skill set than development or re-architecture. So saying that they want to focus on one not the other means they have chosen not to do this even though they could. As a marketing and former IT manager, my speculation is that Zenimax management are planning to do some things that would anger the player base. This is why we are not getting much communication. It could be that ZOS is refusing to fund the server hardware and forcing Rich and the team to fund it from the crown store.

The biggest issue with big games that have been running for years is that the base code isn't suited to the 'modern' game. I've gone thru this with another large game these past couple of years - and i don't think it's as complicated in the code as ESO. There is so much going on, and as we've seen, one seemingly small addition to the game can cause major issues all over the shop. The team needs to basically rewrite the entire game, but in a way that it can be incrementally introduced - to reduce any major roll- out problems. That said, i think that more communication with the community is required. i don't pvp, and have not played a full year as yet, but even i am getting annoyed by the lach of communication. But therein lies another issue, too much communication can make the community have more expectation than is achievable, just as much as no communication makes people think the game is going down the toilet. We need to find a middle ground - and many content creators need to pull their heads in, they need to find a respectful way to open conversations. The game's communication team also need to be more respectful. TBH, i've seen more diplomacy and manners in a preschool classroom.

It has not been about lack of conversation. It's about a PvP and I've game that has been breaking for years. What has been added to the decline is the shrinking PBS content. ZOS has always done what Bethesda/Zenimax studios do....fix as little as possible and bury the flaws under new content. Would anyone feel better if ZOS said we aren't fixing (fill in the blank)? The 'year of performance' was a failure and pretty much everything after that was a failure. What I do not get is why they continue to seem to go for the most destructive to their business choice. I said it long time ago: Three Banner War PVP is DEAD. Cyrodiil is STALED. The same landscape, the same quests, the same fortress, the same dynamics, not AMAZING Ayleids dungeons (remember Oblivion), not Oblivion Horde rampaging on Cyrodiil, etc. Cyrodiil is just like a huge frozen in time area in all TESO, like a desert surrounded by all pve jungle content.

I'm finally done with ESO for a while. Not being able to log in for a couple of weeks really made me realise how much less I enjoy it than I used to. I might log on occasionally to PvP with my guild, but that's it. Good info, for sure. The only thing I take issue with is something everyone says: "The old servers were old/potatoes/out of date". That is based on how gamers replace hardware, not how companies do it. Having a 7-10 year refresh cycle is a very standard thing, and not out of line at all.

Yeah except that doesn't appear to be true because the server upgrade actually fixed 95 % of the performance issues. Clearly their spaghetti code was bottle necking whatever servers they were using and perhaps the population of ESO has only grown since they setup those servers.

I personally think they are trying to kill PvP in ESO... Many (More than half) of my guild mates left PvP (Left the game) on the PS4/5 server (I have now switched to PC). Maybe someone that deals with developing or anything can tell us why they can not do anything with PvP?

There'll definitely be new pvp content in 2023. There will be a new ToT deck that causes cyrodiil to crash every time someone plays it.

Bit of a click bait one here Zilla, they don't mention PvP in that recent post. Netherless we all know they haven't any content planned, aside from the latest Dungeon and Raids on stream they don't even play the game themselves. They hold no desire of balancing for pvp, would rather people didn't nuke their ai monster (with no feelings) than have a fun PvP environment. Mythics, Hybridisation, scaling healing with damage instead of max stats have ruined the fun and diversity between builds/classes. Lucky for players we have MW2, OW2 or WoW/New world to enjoy instead

that's why - to my knowledge - they kept saying that upgrading hardware wont fix performance issue up untill they replaced NA servers - they know about huge bottlenecks in the server code that are making it impossibke to make proper use of however better hardware.

No new pvp content , no visible progress, no time line or regular updates. But they will still release new dungeons, chapter, dungeons and dlc on schedule. As a player I'm a jack of all trades, I pvp, pve, play the economy etc, so I can kinda weather a bad patch by switching content I play, but as of this writing. I have unsubbed, tying up a few loose ends in game (for friends and guild) and then I'm out of here. If eso does get things sets right ( eventually) , they will need to do more than a welcome back weekend ( see below) for me to come back . The part that bugs me , is when they hit year 5 going 6 . It was mentioned during an eso stream that when they built this game, they looked at eso as having a shelf life of 5 years . The numbers for both money and players were good, so they started to look forward to more years and added more content, but knew full well that the game was built on old code and hardware (something only shared not long ago) . They could and should have started the rebuild process back then and build towards another 5 years with a proper plan and road map. So that the game would have a good foundation ( both hardware and software) then but didn't . So we are at this point because zenimax slumlorded their hardware and software. Thank you @The Real Godzilla and many other content creators who have helped me stay informed over the years in both pvp, pve and other game related content. The time and effort you have all put in , was greatly appreciated :) Note: For those not familiar with "The welcome back weekend" it was eso reaching out to all accounts/players that left the game after the early launch ( many of whom where beta testers) . The invite was to get players to come back and see the changes they made to fix the game . And in fairness they did . This was in 2015.

They haven’t even started it yet when they said it would be done during this year and hardware for console won’t be until we’ll after march 2023 there isn’t even a date set for that ! So assuming hardware won’t be done for months after march 2023 and the rewrite will take the better part of a year because that’s what they said you can bet your bottom dollar the rewrite won’t be done till 2024 so ya I quit I’ll be back after they deliver … maybe.

To look at the optimistic side, sometimes upgrades, and especially rewrites, can be a long and daunting process. However, the positive benefits far outweigh the negatives of continuing to use the same architecture or slight changes that are more bandaid style fixes. In short, while the communication has been terrible and no timelines have been given, this may be a very healthy change for ESOs future when it comes to performance. Good example is multi-threading and nvidia/amd anti-aliasing algorithms; both took a lot of time but were eventually implemented and these updates make the game run butter smooth (for me). To add, as a full stack web developer myself on a medium size project of average complexity on a small team, I would estimate a MINIMUM of 3 months for a complete rewrite/upgrade of our application. Bare minimum 3 months, with a lot of wiggle room. ESO is likely multiples of 10 larger and more complex than the application I develop. While ZOS has many more devs and overall resources than I have access to, we have to understand that a full rewrite may take 2-3 years. That's not ideal at all, but as mentioned before, it could be what ESO needs to thrive in it's future. Something else to consider is that the game is runnable under console as well as PC. That means a minimum of 3 system architectures that the application is built for, resulting in more development time and potential for hiccups. To your point though, a little communication goes a long way.

Yea thats a no from me, they will lost me as a player if they don't start to bring new and fresh pvp content as often as pve content. When Ashes of Creation and Diablo 4 comes live, ESO will be a dead game for sure.

Left ESO at end of last year (2021), just had enough of their empty promises and lies about doing this and that (like the "Year of performance" and the performance was at it's worst ever after that year..) and never delivering, just moving goal posts again after a year goes so people get new false hope from their words and "plans" that are supposed to bring good news someday during next year, or year after that. Meanwhile most of their team are just working on their new game and ESO prolly working with minimal skeleton crew on near maintenance mode. Sucks, the game had potential but lost trust will not be earned back imo anymore even if they eventually get something small done. Prolly they don't even, but all stakes are on the new game.

Idk why.. it’s the same cycle of new OP gear behind paywall, we beg for nerfs, they make the item irrelevant, then a new patch drops with new OP gear lol. Sad since I legit Played since launch
