How NOT to destroy AK-74M? (full-auto fire)

How to destroy AK - you definitely know the answer. The question is: how NOT to destroy it while firing nonstop? We conducted tests: we had 3 AK-74M, 3 thousand bullets, 3 kits of weapon upgrade. The first one was regular with a plastic handguard. The second and third - Classic kits by Zenitco (one - with B-10M short handguard, B-19 upper handguard, B-33 dust cover; second - with B-30 long handguard, B-31 upper handguard, B-33 dust cover). Perst-4 green+ laser on B-5 rail was used to control the accuracy of shooting.
The results proved that a rifle with Zenitco parts can survive even the most intense fire.

Back when I first heard of zenitco I used to wonder why the hand guards were always so open and ventilated. Looked like potential structural problems, at first glance. But since most of the heat in an ak is up in the gas tube and barrel anyway, it makes a lot of sense I think. This video was a pretty good confirmation of that. I wonder though, if it was possible to put an additional heat sink under the hand guard, would that help slow buildup of heat even more or would it be mostly pointless? Since a lot of heat builds up in the gas block and tube, I don't think any further improvement in heat dissipation would be too significant, from just adding what in effect would be a partial barrel shroud.... or I guess sleeve, dont know. Still, I figure it may help with the barrel, if only to a marginal extent. That's if it didnt restrict the air flow through the hand guard too much, anyway. Also guess it would depend on the type of metal used, aside from any structural and spatial concerns.

From what I gather, they're aluminium but Jim Fuller notes that these handguards are pretty hefty and are not as lightweight as other handguard options for AK pattern rifles available. They certainly add the extra durability for the platform though.

Too bad it's probably a pain in the ass to get the Zenitco furniture right now (have to imagine there's quite a wait anyway)

Should have mounted the Perst 4 to the handguard, as it seems a better place to put it, being more realistic than placing it on the rear 12 o'clock position where it obscures the sights and all.

Zenitco in the states isn’t going to be cheap right now. You can get a Ak but depending on the quality you want you may have to spend a few gs on the rifle and even more on the furniture.

Interesting that all the weapons tested had different fire rates. The first gun was firing at almost 750rpm, the second was at around 650rpm, and the third was slightly less than that, starting out at about 600rpm. Differences in gas settings?
