In the RAF we never used the same abrasive for steel and aluminum as it causes corrosion, as the steel gets imbedded into the aluminum.

I was going to mention this. It’s often overlooked.

I was thinking the same thing. I use a 2X72 belt grinder for that kind of grinding but there is no wrong way. Using the belt grinder lets me change a belt for wood, aluminum, or steel.

Or you just reprint the wheel like I do. Everything doesn’t need to be difficult!

Re-grind. Not reprint.

@@jimhumphrey when we did use belts and just marked the backs with an A for aluminium alloy or C for copper base and F for ferrous.

Progress must feel pretty good about now. Consider flying one of those birds over to Pontiac on Sunday. It'd be great to see you there.

Boy, no wonder the grinder walks around. Did you notice how much the wheels moved when you started grinding. Looks like a set of bearings in in order. Sure do like following your build.
@KitplaneEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
Did you miss the part where I said it's sitting on grass?? The wheels don't move at all.
@wheelerdavea2 жыл бұрын
@@KitplaneEnthusiast I meant the grinding wheels. When you touched the strut end to the wheel you can see the label on the grinding wheel move in and out. I should have been more specific.
@AnonyMous-jf4lc2 жыл бұрын
Noticed this as well. May not seem like a big deal, but once replaced you’ll wonder how you ever used it before.
@KitplaneEnthusiast2 жыл бұрын
Oh I see what you’re talking about now. The wheels don’t move although for some reason it looks like they do. Maybe something to do with the camera frame rates??
@jimhumphrey2 жыл бұрын
@@KitplaneEnthusiast Yep, that's precisely what it is. If that shaft was moving as much as it looked it would short the armature. The vibration is in the grinding wheels. The best thing to do is to bolt the stand to the floor with some rubber spacers to absorb some of the vibrations. Or move it into the grass 🙂
