This was a bummer. A lot of work went into this project for not a single seed to germinate. It wasn't a complete loss however. All of the initial work is still there and intact. All we do now is wait until next spring to throw down some more seed and we're back on track. Don't get disappointed in the minor setbacks.

I've been waiting for this update for the longest. Sorry about all the hard work that you put in man. It's just a bummer it's happened to me twice with a couple of bags of zoysia seeds that I bought. I'm just waiting to see what's next with my backyard but I love the content that you put out

I appreciate you watching! I hate to hear that about your project. Im hoping this time around will be a success for me. If not, I’ll probably try again next year haha. Had great luck on 6-8 yards I’ve done in zoysia over the years without any complete failures.

I recommend NOT using Zenith Zoysia seed. My contractors were incredibly detailed about everything and I watered religiously. When I called Supersod, they said I needed to get a soil sample and send it to them. Really??

I have watched all of your videos and I am so impressed! I want zenith zoysia so bad in my front and back yard, but I have a mix of bermuda and centipede and a ton of dirt patches, there's no way zoysia would be able to take over all of that. Let alone the cost of zenith zoysia is insane!! And sometimes it's sold out! Maybe one day
@ZoysiaRUs8 ай бұрын
Well I appreciate you following along! It is expensive but it’s a heck of a lot cheaper than maintaining fescue in my area. Plus the cost of overseeding each year. Start small and do a section each year with seed or plugs. I’ve been working on it for 4 years now.

I bought a couple of bags of Zenith seed from Super Sod. I bought a couple of painters nets and put the seeds in the nets and tied them. I dropped both painters net bags with the seeds in a 5 gallon bucket of water for at least 24 hours then I took them out. I Scarified my lawn then put topsoil down and raked it thin. Then I took the moist seeds and tossed them across the topsoil. I then raked the seeds into the topsoil leaving a thin layer of topsoil and seeds. Since then I’ve just been watering and letting the rain do the rest. My seeds were growing grass in less than 2 weeks. Hope this helps.

That’s great. Never had any issues myself until this go round. Pregerminating the seeds would definitely help.
@CChance16 ай бұрын
@@ZoysiaRUs Yeah I didn’t wait until I could see them germinating before I put them down. I just soaked them at least 24 hours before putting them out and then just kept them watered.

Damm that’s really unfortunate! All that work and not a single seed!

Yea no doubt. But all the grade work is still in place so this year I’ll just throw down the seed and keep it watered and hope for the best!

I had a complete failure to germinate of Zenith as well. I did half my yard and it came in perfect, then four weeks later I did the other half and nothing came in, all from the same seed stock. If you plant past mid September, it will not grow. I am 100% convinced that the seed knows what day of the year it is and it has a hard cut-off date.
@ZoysiaRUs8 ай бұрын
I agree. I wouldn’t seed past mid July in my area and I think that’s pushing it. Maybe the seed had gone bad before your second attempt. They claim if it’s stored improperly it really degrades the shelf life.
@michaelsuede8 ай бұрын
@@ZoysiaRUs I think it was just the time of year. Seed was stored in the house, climate controlled, air tight bag.

Welcome back...I've really gotten a lot from your channel in renovating my own yard. Question, I'm up in Wake Forest, NC and I'm planning to sand level some low areas next week. These spots hold water and my Zenith is really sparse in these areas coming out of the winter (they were thick and healthy when it went into dormancy). Some spots will be no more than a half inch of sand, while others will be closer to 1.5". In your experience, what is the timeframe and success rate for deeper leveling to grow in and thicken up? We're now seeing 70's and 80's pretty much every day.
@ZoysiaRUs8 ай бұрын
Glad to hear the channel has helped out! I like to sand level when it’s growing in its prime. So mowing 2-3x/week. You can sand now but the recovery will be slower. Same deal with deeper areas. I don’t have any doubt that zoysia will grow through 1” of sand. You just run the risk of sand washing away during heavy rains while it’s trying to grow through. Best to do the deeper areas half way and once that recovers then do the whole area again to get it leveled. Thats how I would treat a settled irrigation trench, which I have several that need to be fixed this summer.
@jebrown19802 ай бұрын
Now that we're in October, do you have any updates on this area?
@TheSoloAsylum8 ай бұрын
I've had the exact same results with this same seed two years in a row now. It's far to expensive to just keep trying it again.
@ZoysiaRUs8 ай бұрын
That’s disheartening. I’ve planted it 6 times with great success. I think this was just a bad bag or maybe the whole batch was bad. Supersod sent me a new bag for free so I’m going to give it another shot this summer.
@MrAwesome3O58 ай бұрын
What would you use to kill off the fescue and not harm your zoysia?
@ZoysiaRUs8 ай бұрын
I don’t have any zoysia in that stand so I’ll use glyphosate. But tribute total or certainty are good options.
@phukyew148 ай бұрын
Don't stress my friend. The upper half of my yard is fescue because it gets no sun due to shade from my giant Southern magnolia tree and the lower half of my yard is zoysia. I would like it all to be one grass type but have accepted this is best 😂
@ZoysiaRUs8 ай бұрын
Haha yea. You have to make the best out of whatever the situation is. This is small stuff.
@consciouswriter6531Ай бұрын
That’s EXACTLY where I am right now. $2000 investment. Down the drain. 🤦♀️ I’m planning to buy Emerald Zoysia plugs in the spring because Supersod says it’s my fault, my responsibility, even though I hired an award winning landscape architect who told me what fertilizer to buy. Very uncool of Supersod. I recommend NOT buying Zenith Zoysia seed.
