For the trigger plugs, I found that on my wired PowerA controller, 2 toothpicks cut to size fit perfectly snugly into the holes of the triggers, which make for an adequate replacement. The wireless controller I found has a shorter travel distance anyway, so I neglected doing the mod to that one, but for those having trouble with the wired variety, I hope this helps

A somewhat solution for the shoulder button is to use the extra z button as a shield if you are bothered by the travel.

Eneloop AAs make me _actually prefer_ batteries. 😎 I use them in my 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ too instead of the stock rechargeable pack that it comes with.
@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess
@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess 4 жыл бұрын
@@WR3ND batteries, specially disposable AA's, are literal cancer for the planet, batteries are even worse than plastic for the environment. they include toxic minerals and heavy metals, plus the normal mining of minerals that is hurting our planet Also, there is a reason audiophiles despise apple for removing the analog audio output in smartphones, in the current technology of bluetooth it's still far from being a quick and good quality signal as wired, there's input latency from bluetooth so if you play smash or another game that requires precise controls and time, you're better off with a wired controller. So i recommend that you revise your view on batteries
@WR3ND
@WR3ND 4 жыл бұрын
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess Eneloops are NiMH rechargable AAs, and can last and be used for a lot longer than Li-Ion ones. They're 2,000MAh and extremely low self-discharge (they'll hold the majority of a single charge for the better part of a decade when not in use, meaning they can be stored charged and ready to use as needed), and are also low internal resistance and can push upwards of 10 amps while holding 1 volt. They're also good for like 2,000+ full recharge cycles down to 80% capacity potential. Basically they last forever (compared to most electronics and the like these days), much more so than the Li-Ion type packs you find sealed in many devices these days. NiMH is also a lot less toxic than the older NiCd and "disposable" batteries.
@WR3ND
@WR3ND 4 жыл бұрын
@@MybeautifulandamazingPrincess Also, the SN30 Pro+ can connect wired too, so I get the best of both. The controller featured in this video is just a nice additional option for me, and is my daughter's special controller to use when we play the Switch together.

@LendinSwiftbolt
@LendinSwiftbolt 3 жыл бұрын
@@cesarrojas7318 Wow, I should've responded to this earlier. I'm not really a competitive Smash player anymore, but I guess it depends on what you need. If you need a substantial controller for going to tournaments again, one that'd last you a few years or so, I honestly wouldn't recommend it. They're good controllers, and I have bias since mine was more than likely a lemon, but they really are stiff, and even over hours and hours of use, it doesn't improve too much. I did get a wireless one, though, maybe the wired one is better. When I said "scrounge for a Smash edition one", I meant an actual official Smash Ulitmate edition wired GameCube controller, and I did eventually get one, which worked very well for when I used it. tl;dr good in a pinch, but I'd save to for an official (either pro or GC, or find it at a cheaper price via the internet) or a more specialized controller after/instead of buying this

About nine months ago, I got the wired Power A GameCube Controller so I could play Smash Ultimate with it. As of right now, mine has completely worn down and has ceased to function properly. It lasted for a decent amount of time, but it became apparent that it felt shoddily made the more I used it. I originally thought it was really good, but I wanted to make this post in case there were others who were deciding on purchasing it. I also want to add that I was somewhat rough with the controller, but only in pressing the main buttons (A, B, X and Y). Never to an extent as in dropping the controller or hitting it to make it work. The C pad on the C-stick came off, so I put it back in place with super glue. No big deal, it still worked as expected. The analog stick began to fall apart and has a tear to the right of the center. I also began to feel a bit of stick drift in the left analog stick. It would automatically tilt upwards without being touched, so grabbing an opponent would automatically lead to them being thrown upwards. The A button began to stick and the membrane (Referred to as the button pad at around 20:43 in this video) that was used to prop it back into place stopped functioning as expected. It lost its ability to click the A button back into place. The Y button also began to stick and made it so that I could no longer use it for jumping. The Y button sticking also made it so that when it did stick, I could not use the X button to jump. My guess is the membrane propping the main buttons up was cheaply made. It lacks the springiness that was present with the original rubber pads used in GameCube controllers. For those considering getting the wired version, check to see if others have run into similar issues when it has been used for longer periods of time. I've decided against getting a replacement version of this controller and am now attempting to hunt down a GameCube controller, as well as a controller adapter. Failing that, I'm also considering buying GameCube rubber replacement pads from Amazon and seeing if they work with the Power A controller.

Solid review. I bought a wireless PowerA controller day one for Smash Ultimate. Over time, what has happened with my controller is that the left analog stick has begun drifting which causes me unable to properly execute moves on a consistent basis. I am not a competitive player nor someone who “beats up” his controllers, just someone who plays Smash A LOT, so I am a bit surprised that this has happened to this rather solid third party controller. I wonder if anyone else has had this same issue.

I've been waiting for this! I just got my wired PowerA controller today, and I'm loving it so far. Have you had a chance to try Hori and PDP's takes aswell?

Alessandro Porcelli I got the power a and the pdp at the same time and I wanted to love both tbh. I love the high quality feel of the power a and the fact it looks like a wavebird. The stick is amazing for smash and the buttons are pretty good too, especially the extra shoulder button. But I cannot get used to the triggers at all, I’ve been using the pro controller for smash and it has small triggers that are quick to react with. I can’t even press the triggers in on the power a consistently, my hands just don’t sit right with it. The PDP pad feels cheaper generally and the left stick has a lot of travel with it, seemingly making dash dancing awkward for some reason. But the controller, although bigger, feels really ergonomic and has short triggers that are really easy and quick to press. I found this was absolutely vital. I’m glad I like the pdp pad, but I want to love the power a so badly, but I can’t use the triggers which is frustrating. Everything feels great apart from the triggers. I can move so well with that controller and with it being smaller than the pdp pad you can react really well. Just wish it had small triggers!
@Hack3r91
@Hack3r91 6 жыл бұрын
@@debunkingstupidity1335 the PDP definitely is better for bigger hands too, I'm sure somebody is trying to make shoulder plugs for the power A to make the travel much shorter. I personally have no problems with it and it gives me the same feeling as the originals do, but it's objectively not optimal.
@debunkingstupidity1335
@debunkingstupidity1335 6 жыл бұрын
Alessandro Porcelli I’ve found people modding them, effectively using a couple of screws internally as shoulder plugs. I’m gonna try it today. I thought I was getting on with the pdp but I think there’s just too much travel on the stick and it stops you reacting as quickly I think. At least it does for me as I don’t have the biggest hands and as you say, it’s a bigger controller isn’t it. I’ll let you know how I get on with the mod in case you might want to try it

keep in mind that yes ain high-level gameplay those clicks can throw you off ,but once you get used to them you can actually use those clicks to your advantage as a distraction for your opponent. in smash there are a lot of standstills whether that be your on the edge and your opponent's waiting for you to do something, or whether you're both on the stage and you're both waiting for the other to act so you can react.in any of these standstills you can use those clicks to trick your opponent into acting (moving). it doesn't work all the time but since the clicks do nothing there's really no way you're getting hurt from this and you can simply just move if you need to. it's just another thing to put in your bag of tricks for beating your opponent.

I have a wired purple controller. Used it since day one of ultimate. It’s a great controller however my c stick (left tilt) is kind of bugged after 75 hours of smash. If I hit left tilt there’s a 10 percent chance it’ll be a left tilt attack. 90 percent of the time it’ll end up being an up tilt attack instead. I’ve checked the controller settings in the switch and l confirmed when I do a left tilt the controller registers it as a up tilt. Again for 25 dollars and over 75 hours of smash it held up but I felt like my OG gc controllers lasted longer. My wavevbird still holding up till today

I usually use either the pro controller or the original game cube controller since their weighted. Weight & feel are probably the most important to me when playing smash since I want to feel like i have something in my hands and if it’s light it just feels weird to me.

For anyone interested in using the official gamecube controller and adapter on the go, there's a good solution for that. Hori made a switch portable stand that has 4 usb ports and can also charge at the same time. Just look up Hori usb stand, and you'll find it. It's around $40 but I think its worth it when taking into consideration that the stand itself is miles better than the kickstand. Plus you essentially get the same function as an official tv dock, but without the need of a tv.

I loved the video! But I'm curious about a small detail about the sticks. The gamecube controller has a built in resistance pathways (?) so that you are more likely to move your sticks in the 8 directions that the gate is set in. Is this a feature in the Power A controller as well? I have yet to see a third party controller that did this, which is why I stopped buying them. Thank you for your content!
@ragingsage
@ragingsage 6 жыл бұрын
Is this true? My Hori controller has this, its very clear when I test it out the in the switch calibration mode. Its basically impossible for me to make perfect small circle due to the large dead zones around the cardinal directions. Large circles work since the dead zones seems to become smaller/non existent on the outer rim of the stick. If normal GC controllers are like this it would explain that otherwise strange design decision.

Listen up guys. Don't move the sticks when you turn it on, or plug it in. When you do that it registers the place you moved it to as the center. This will cause drifting and false inputs when it returns to its true center.

I have the wireless Power A controller. In Smash Ultimate, the air dodge Y+ZR (for non-tether grab characters) will sometimes trigger a short hop air attack instead. I can still do air dodging with y+RT/LT but it is a pretty big disadvantage. Maybe I just have a faulty controller, but this is a big deal.

Hey I put tape and put a sqrew to reach the trigger buttons it feels so much better... but I have the other 2, PDP and Hori, like u I play melee and compared them.. now I found issues with all three controllers. (Tiny) A GC controller has never gave me an issus other than lack there of but 1st Power A Wired - yeah it works but it tends to loose a button command when I'm playing melee. while the GCc Can catch my (L+A) while wave blocking the Power A wired doesn't seem to imput that..almost at all, the hori controller (I have a Pikachu) Can catch more input than The Power A "BUT" I am also doing extra also.. making my ganon do a Jump mid air up Attack with a stomp!... then again, run to the edge and press X and now.. it thinks I put Dpad up.. look he's laughing...its rare when it happens, The PDP controller is ...NICCccccCE... I guess.. I have small hands.. this thing is not for me but I put a GC button rubber piece in and it did better than both Power A and Hori but the Plastic shell is too much...huge. a lot of Etra not really needed but responses on a dime. Analog feels good but the rubber runs off quickly. I can play melee with these but PDP is to big for my hand and can't input in time. But Fantasic. Now for the new SSBU ALL THE CONTROLLERS ARE DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT.. and I "think" inputs are put in at a slower rate than melee.. my computer said I imputed (on my controller with ganondorf melee) 97 bottons. Doing it in smash ultimate I only imputed 44 buttons.. I find myself doing more timing than I do trying to do the attack for ultima.. a good thing. The test was "attack" under 5 sec. That's it. Would love to see u talk about Hori an PDP controllers.. I don't play claw hand.

Buyer beware... It develops snapback WAY faster than the GC controller. Also, I only have the wireless one. While inputs might seem lagless in testing, in practice it sneaks missed inputs in. I use one at work to play with one of my friends at lunch. Maybe it's because you have to mash out so often with K Rool and Inkling on the roster and I wore out the buttons really fast, or maybe it's microwaves running/having so many cell phones in the building, but I get hit with random lag spikes (feels like it's at the WORST Possible time) But, After about 120 hours the snapback became so bad I couldn't even play with it anymore. NOT to mention that it still takes 2 double A batteries. For 60 bucks, they could have tossed a lithium ion battery in it and had a usb charger on it. 60 bucks... My conclusion is: No amiibo support, no lithium battery, develops snapback quickly and button inputs lag at times, high pricetag... I feel like I wasted my money on this. If everyplace wouldn't have been sold out of the gamecube controller adapters, I wouldn't have bought this. I would not recommend this controller.

For those of you wanting to fix the triggers here are some tips that I've seen and one that I've used I've seen people put plastic straws cutting the springs or simply taking them out all of them removed/shortened the travel distance me personally I used screws (thanks guy on Reddit) and put them into the two triggers to remove the travel distance it's not an elegant fix but it worked.
