Okay so i suck at statistics but luckily we are dealing with small amount of combinations. On the (R)ight side we have 3 options, and also on the (L)eft side we got 3 options. Lets begin counting from (R): 3 options and each one of them can be combined with 3 opposite (L) options. So from this perspective we got 3 + 3 + 3 = 9 options. And now, the other way around is also possible. When counting from (L), we got again 3 options that each have 3 options on the opposite site (R). Also 9. So in total we got 9 + 9 = 18 adjustment combinations possible. (correct me if wrong)

Small correction: the switchable AI noise cancelling is for the MIC ONLY. It does a fantastic job removing the background noise in your environment when you talk to your chat partners / co-workers etc. but it is not meant to perform "classical" noise cancelling of whatever you are hearing. Otherwise I fully agree with the review! They are a bit on the heavy side but still comfortable and sound fantastic via USB and via (LDAC) bluetooth. I love them for music and I have dozens of other "audiophile" headphones, DACs and amps here to choose from.

More corrections: it's not made of metal it's plastic. It's just VERY nice plastic. I also thought it was all metal when I pulled it out of the box. Also side tone isn't really meant for hearing background noise. It's for piping your own mic voice into your headphones so you can hear yourself talk in a more natural way and don't end up yelling into your mic instinctively since they're closed back. Without the boom mic plugged in the unit uses the built in mics which do pickup more background noise incidentally.

Due note, using an amp could damage the driver, as audeze made it where it already has one built in. If you plug in an external amp, it is highly likely to cause a double feed, causing straining of the highs, and fuzzying of the lows. @@SereBronx late reply, I know. Hope this is still on your mind. Yeah, I’ve used them for 3+ hours listening to music without much physical stress both on the ears or neck or even pressure on the head due to clamping. I use them for listening sessions during work too. I’ve played 4-5 hour long weekend gaming sessions without much bother as well. It all depends on your overall tolerance. While I wish they were a bit lighter and they are a bit heavy, I would still recommend them. I think it might be a psychological game I play with myself because I know they’re worth it. I overlook that weight aspect because I really do enjoy the quality and sometimes we do have to sacrifice a bit of comfort for quality. It’s hard to put so many good things in one package and not make it a little bit heavy. I am very nitpicky with anything I buy that I believe should be of great quality. These cans are worth every penny, in my humble opinion. The worst that can happen is that you don’t like them, you choose to return them and you get something else. Give them a try. I think you’ll be impressed. It’s the “don’t knock it ‘till you try it” deal. Hope this helps a bit. I’d love to hear about your experience if you do choose to get them.

Many of the same controls and EQ settings were borrowed from the Mobius and are used on the Maxwell. I tried them at CanJam and I liked them. unless Sony buys WavesNX, it's probably not going to add their Pulse 3D HRTF with gyro tracking. While it's feasible to get 3D without the need for spatial tracking ie gyroscopes in the headset or in the controller, the next part is calibration and use / enabling. It probably won't be "opened up" by games or apps, because of the PSVR2. But, HRTF is tricky because of the licensing. Opening up "3D" audio on a dongle, is another challenge. It is possible, if the game works with the gyro tracking in the PS5 dualsense controller. Which is what's built into airpods pro with apple spatial audio. But, spatial gyro is also built into the PSVR2 in some ways too. Eh.

@@Skylancer727 Wasn't lost on me; it's a $300 set that works as a springboard for planar headphones, so if he enjoys the LCD-X, he should also enjoy the Maxwell. As I said in my reply, they replaced multiple of my own sets, including planers that were over triple their price (for casual listening -- which I think is important to point out). @Silverjerk Жыл бұрын
@@guybuddy1 I have not compared them, unfortunately. I do love the LCD-2 Classic. I have not, however, tested the closed back version. Full candor, I also vehemently disliked the closed back Sundara and think it was a big misstep by HiFiMan. That said, it’s hard to argue with that price on the LCD-2 CB and that would be a tough call for anyone. The one caveat for me is the convenience of the Maxwell being a wireless set that actually performs well beyond expectation. The convenience was a big factor for me; I don’t even have time to play games these days. 90% of my time with the Maxwell is media consumption. That, to me, is the biggest selling point here. Audeze made an amazing entry-level planar that EQs beautifully, has amazing battery life, sounds more than adequate over Bluetooth, but also includes a low-latency dongle, and just happens to be an excellent gaming headset (not the other way around). Again, tough call. But I will say, at least in my case, I have headphones in the thousands sitting within arms reach, and at least a dozen IEMs, ranging from cheap Chi-Fi to flagship models, and I find myself running the Maxwell for most of my use cases. It’s excellent. For the price, it’s a damn steal.

@Silverjerk
@Silverjerk 10 ай бұрын
@@NintenZoid84 you wouldn’t be giving up anything. Remember, this is Audeze. The same company that makes the LCD-X, MM-500, LCD-2C and LCD-5. They know how to build a planar headphone. I own and love my DT770s and 1990s; they’re great for tracking and mixing. But the Maxwells are not only great gaming headphones, they are objectively competent for critical and casual listening and general media consumption; and I’d argue they’re the best entry into planars, more so than HiFiMan’s lower-end models. To be fair, I only run the DT770s for checking my mixes for sibilance. I rarely use them for casual listening anymore. If I do, I’ll almost always run them with EQ, like Oratory’s presets or some of the EQs I’ve made over the years. The Maxwell, however, is fantastic right out of the box. The default preset is fairly neutral, so you may want to tweak it like I did, but you’re definitely not giving up anything with the Maxwell and I’d argue you may prefer them. The “gaming” label is marketing; don’t be dissuaded by that point. Audeze basically made a phenomenal midfi level wireless planar with a decent microphone and great built in DSP controls.

Thanks for your honest coverage. They aren't ANC, just utilizing AI from the Audeze FILTER(their speaker with AI noise cancelling) is built into the Maxwell. The Shure created C17 stick mic is naturally a bit on the lower side(like most Shure mics) where you don't get as good of mic capture if you don't have the headset plugged into USB to boost extra power from the USB 3.0 connection. 25 minutes is 20 hours of charge. All of the 5 I've tested so far have averaged at least 86 hours of battery life with 2 exceeding 90 hours in segregated momentary use. There are 5 internal beamforming mics, of which you have the port filter including a cluster of 3 directional and 2 omnidirectional on the side of can ports. The FILTER AI noise cancelling works with the C17 stick mic and stand alone internal mics without. Only thing is without the C17 stick mic, using the beamforming mics internally, it is a heavier suppression(around 5 to 7% in my testing) from random sounds intermittently, to constant sounds ranging slightly higher at around 4 to 6% suppression but also adding compression). Bluetooth 5.3 utilizing the LC3+ codec has a tendency to naturally be lower latency(under 11 to 7ms avg) but using the loudness option in settings to be less loud(checked) will decrease latency, but unchecking will cause an avg 15db hike in audio at the loudest volume setting where it was a slightly higher delay latency. I mostly use them for broadcast, and bluetooth to my TV for undisturbed enjoyment where I work a different schedule than rest of the people in the house. I hope this helps, and I'm looking forward to seeing if Audeze has designed a new fazor driver for the Sony Pulse Elite, or if it will just be a modification of the Maxwell or M-100 90mm current use at that revealed $150 price point, it will be an interesting go for sure, but just not a fan of most Sony Playstation headset mics where it's slide away integrated capsule. The next option that Audeze should invest in is USB type C connection full cardioid capsule mic to be the most complete headset for all use at this under $400 price point. The Sony Pulse Elite is probably going to utilize the PS Link to reduce latency even further(possibly below 3ms) for a lightning fast connection and lowest latency. Perhaps Sony will permit Audeze to integrate that tech patent into their non Sony licensed standalone separate audiofile and other platform use products. Time will tell I guess.

I have the Penrose and the Maxwell and honestly the Penrose probably sounds a little better, but honestly they feel like they are made by 2 separate companies... The maxwell has an 80 hour battery life and honestly it's exceeded that considerably considering I've only charge it twice since I got it a month and half ago. While the Penrose feels made of cheap plastic, the maxwell is made of mostly metal, and the Penrose drops if you get like 10ft from the receiver. The maxwell on the other hand stays connected in every room on every floor of my house. It only cuts out standing next to microwave when it's running and even then I can mostly still hear what's going on and that's almost 35ft from my PC. If you do decide to buy another headset, trust me when I tell you its of considerably higher quality. The earpads are a touch shallow though like they said. It doesn't hurt or anything, but it's something to get used to for sure.

Hey, here's a note for you with a little correction. "Sidetone" is tone fed back from the microphone into the headphones. It's intended to let you hear your own voice when talking. Your phone has a little side tone in it, for example. It's just feedback so that you know your voice is being picked up. If you can't hear your voice, you're not in a call, right? Sidetone (when used) tells you if your microphone is picking anything up. Sidetone has nothing to do with *what* it picks up, but ideally, your headset microphone only picks up your voice and rejects all ambient noise. That noise rejection is a function of other features, however, such as the mic's polar pickup pattern, noise gates, ANC, and so on. Sidetone just gives you a sneak peek of what the microphone is picking up, so it's up to the microphone to do the filtering. You're not wrong to compare it to the "aware"/"passthrough" modes that some headphones come with, but that is a little different than sidetone in terms of focus. Both are picking up sounds around you and feeding it back into your ears, but sidetone is focused on your microphone, while these modes are focused on everything. (Technically speaking, it's still "sidetone", right? It's just that the passthrough microphones are pointing everywhere, while the microphone you'll think of when talking about sidetone is the little black dick in your face.) Nice review style, by the way. You're a blast to listen to, haha.
@indigoHatter
@indigoHatter 10 ай бұрын
Oh, and it's not really a gamer term... it's more just a communications thing. If you're used to reviewing headphones and microphones separately, you've never run into "sidetone". Instead, you've probably heard it as monitoring, I'm guessing.
@indigoHatter
@indigoHatter 10 ай бұрын
I'll also note: I've heard that the Audeze Maxwell turned the sidetone up quite a bit for people wanting more sidetone, but as a result, the internal mics pick up a little of that noise provided by the overly-sensitive sidetone and go into a feedback loop, causing some hum noise if it's turned up too high. I'm sure you can adjust it yourself to a more palatable level to eliminate that, but I've heard they fixed this hum in a firmware update which you can apply through the app. (Have to update both the headset and dongle, one at a time.)

If aynone has issues with fit, where your ears touch the drivers - Wicked Cushions make pads that are slightly bigger, so with some EQ tuning, I got mine to sound and fit so good, I don't want to touch my BO 95H anymore. Even wearing them for 6+ hours isn't an issue. The only reason these aren't my only cans in use, is the heat in the summer, nothing beats an open Senheiser there, but I doubt I'll use anything else when the temperature goes lower, they're just that good imo.

@@Pandemonium088 Yeah, I can see that the added weight would be an issue, Maxwell is hefty on it's own already. Would be interesting if Audeze made a Maxwell "Lite", with lower battery life, but less weight... Thankfully for my usecase of sitting at my desk and only occasionally walking around the house to get a coffee, I don't mind.
