I moved to Boulder in the summer of 70. I remember Zephyr playing all over town -- wild ass shows where lots of folks were tripping on this and that. Then I remember Tommy going solo and coming back to Boulder walking around on the Hill dressed like a glam rocker.

Fillmore is spelled with two letter l’s. The Zephyr clip that doesn’t seem to have survived was their appearance on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. It apparently was in January 1970. I was a freshman in high school, and I was knocked out by their buck-toothed, funky chick singer and their amazing guitar player, who had a homemade sound effects box on his amp. During his solo he turned around and messed around with it to get some modern electronic sound effects. I thought the band was great and went out and bought their album (which I still have stashed away). A few years later when I was a Mahavishnu fan I was surprised when Billy Cobham’s first solo album came out that Tommy Bolin was on it. It would be so much fun to watch that American Bandstand Zephyr show, but I guess it’s not possible.

Loved this, Zephyr was a great band, and introduced us to Tommy Bolin. It seems to me, as a long time Tommy fan, that he was a better guitarist in Zephyr. As his career continued his playing declined. There were some great highlights to come, but his lifestyle got in the way. Your hard pressed to find this type of playing from 75 onwards. I’m grateful for the footage! Is the the whole concert out there anywhere?

Candy Givens was a lot better on Zephyr's last album "Sunset Ride". David and Candy Givens brought Jock Bartley on guitar and two other players. The album is a lot more laid back and the songs are well written. I always thought that David Givens was a good bassist after seeing Zephyr in 1970.
