This is exactly why I loved StarCraft 1. The storyline was epic yet dark but somehow in SC2 it felt oftentimes more like a Hollywood movie or comedy. Artanis is always making victory speeches with words like "brethren, heritage, glory, birthright, legacy" yada yada yet they sound so hollow and seem to only try and be pompous... I'm not saying SC2 is bad. I'm saying we're all part of a Conf... oh wait, that wasn't the line I was going for. I mean I just think SC1 was way better in terms of memorability. Didn't seem as "forced".
@Chertograad3 жыл бұрын
Zeratul turned from a scary assassin into an old geezer that rambles about prophecies and warns "children" of the dangers of the world. Raynor turned from a fiery rebel into a action hero who throws one-liners all the time like "huhhah, you know I always got a card to play" or something like that. Artanis turned from a young and questioning protoss warrior into someone who hosts the yearly galas and raises his glass. Stukov was also honorable (apart from the vodka thing) but in SC2 he reminds me more of Haddock from Tintin. That's not a good thing. He seems to just smile for the cameras and all. I dunno. I'm just not feeling it. I'm not a hater and I've played the games but they just ain't got nothing on SC1. And let's not get into Kerrigan and the continuous boss battles that just don't fit StarCraft at all.

I'm with you there. The story switched from cynical to heroical without consulting the player or addressing itself even. Saddest part is that the framework was there. Imagine for a second Wings of Liberty with the decision systems for Mass Effect. If you pick the cynical ones you get the immediate easy but long term hard option and vice versa. And that's what the whole story was trying to do without the mechanics really. And in case I haven't won you over yet, if you go full paragon+renegade run you can save Tychus.

Zeratul, Zeratul... I know it sounds cool and shit. But seriously if you want to convince them vague threats and grandstanding is not the way to do it. Sure Aldaris might be stubborn but Zeratul certainly doesnt make it easy to see him in a friendly light...
@becausebuzzbomb6133 Жыл бұрын
I believe that if you consider the greater context, he showed himself in a VERY friendly light. Keep in mind that the Conclave exiled the Dark Templar, branding them as blasphemers a persecuted them wherever they found them. Zeratul being there and not doing anything showed how calm and balanced he is. He only revealed himself and entered the scene only moments before Aldaris and the Conclave did something that couldn't be taken back, and even then he didn't attack, merely taking a defensive stance. I'm not sure if this was conscious choice by the Blizz team, but in the cutscene, they could add a couple Dark Templar one-shotting some Dragoons or something, just to demostrate that the Dark Templar were a serious threat to the Conclave. But not a single Protoss was hurt by the Dark Templar at that moment. Zeratul and his fellows simply didn't interfere until they had no choice. Considering the hatred and the mindset of kill-on-sight the Conclave has for them, that was a very friendly attitude.
