Chivalry 2 had a beta... I had a go... As someone with a lot of experience in Chivalry 1 and Mordhau. I thought I'd share my findings.

The reason people die so quickly in this game is because no one stays together, they just break off and dual. That's not how battle's should be, stay with your brothers, let them support you. Stand together in glory!

@@RPGEmperor you don't have to stand right next to them to support them. But you do have a good point. If you could turn off team damage it would solve the problem all together. But just being close enough without being in hitting range would be good enough to avoid dying all the time.

why would i stay close to my brothers when the game has collision and it just screws over my sprint attack which then in turn screws me. Though i do think its funny how you can get kicked for team damage when the game feels based around team damage.

@@adamyanam6626 Chiv 1 had 32 and 64 player servers and that was top fun. Of course there will be some OP players but the overall chaos going in the match is enough not to care about them. Modern popularity of matchmaking killed all the fun of choosing server and people you want.

@@sissyphussartre2907 unfortunately there is NO high level or pro scene in mordhua anymore because every somewhat good player uses unreadables and will have some sort of dark art in their arsenal. Without the dark arts you cannot win a duel in high level. Most high level players don’t enjoy this because at the end of the day there’s too much luck in the game and it’s broken asf. It’s a sad scene and all we did was hope. It just never came and the scene is dead.

The amazing thing about kingdom come deliverance is the guards, i feel like that would be an amazing addition to the chiv/mordhau style. Mordhau already uses the combat flower like KCD so the changing guards would make the gameplay a lot more interesting

The only annoying thing is the target lock so 1vX situations can be a major shit show, if they reworked that it'd hands down be the best first person slasher system out there. Actually Kingdom Come Deliverance combat system has little to do with Chivalry and Mordhau, because it doesn't have free movement. In KCD, Henry focuses on the target and you have to select one of the 3 directions you're going to attack with.

Except Kingdom Come's combat is much much worse. Its the case of realism translating very poorly into game mechanics. The early mid game is kinda okay and fun, and bows are very OP once you grind out the skill, but going against any high tier enemy in meele combat, even with maxed out skills, is a big pain in the ass. Every enemy has a parry mecânica that you're unable to bait out being basically RNG if they do it or not, they barely use it at lower tiers but oh boi... high tier enemies abuse it a lot, making it a huge risk to actually attack things so you're left pretty much just abusing the parry yourself.

I feel the same. I'm all for the devs getting a bigger cut, especially if it goes to the devs instead of the publishers, which is highly unlikely but that's another thing. But I don't like being told what platform I need to use to have the pleasure of paying for a game. Especially since EGS still doesn't have basic features. It feels like a game getting released early; "don't worry we'll patch it, just give us your money now" I will probably buy it on steam, unless another game releases on Steam around the same time next year, in that case I'll prioritise the non-exclusive game.

The issue with that is the typical engine abuse people start to use with these kind of games. You can only enjoy them at the beginning when everyone is playing the way the developers originally meant it to be played. A year down the line and everyone who hasn't been driven off by bladed spinning tops is doing it themselves. So I figure Chivalry 2 does not exist for me.

When it launched it didn't even have the ability for people to buy multiple games at the one time, you had to purchase each one individually. Give me the choice at least. Rather than telling me where to buy the game because that will just turn into me not buying the game at all. 20% of 0 is still 0. The publishers and devs can work it out with Steam themselves if they don't like it, or boycott Steam. Problem solved.

Personally I feel like chiv 2 has a combat system more similar to for honor than either mordhau or chivalry, more of a "rock paper scissors" type system. I also don't really enjoy the lack of early release in general. Since the entirety of a weapons swing is exclusively wind up and nothing else, which gives that clunky feeling. And unless if it was changed recently. The turn caps are still a bit too lose if their intention is to make the game more casual

So I managed to get top-bracket a few times and I'm actually a /HORRIBLE/ Mordhau player and I was even worse on the first Chivalry. This combat system is basically this: GO IN, AND GO CRAZY. Chivalry 2's combat system is based around just going in and destroying, go all out. I was tired of getting swacked by some dude with a rapier or a knife that just games the system- Chivalry 2 doesn't let that happen.

Well in Chiv 1 there where some sort of cinematic on KZbin, ugly but they were there, plus you could understand the story with the map objective, tho of course only one of the faction win those battles canonicaly, for example we know that Malric win the war and survived so probably all those battles with the last objective "kill Malric", Agatha probably lost those and retreated.

@@aka6double0 I concur I played over 24 hours of it on pc With nvidia rtx 3070 and I700k I loved the game it ran smoothly the whole time the only time it felt Ragdolish is when There was an explosion from catapults or something or When like 5 masons gang up on you even at that though I would kill 3 of them before dying but other than that I was going 32-10 28-6 getting like 50 parries a game killed Over 15 knights without dying multiple double kills the game was just fun all out man .

I think the clunkiness is gonna be fixed a bit before the real launch but I also believe it’s meant to be that way a bit. Wait, you let a few edge lord trolls spamming the gamer word in chat from enjoying a game when you have options like? 1. Actually playing the game instead of paying attention to chat. 2. Options to mute players. 3. Disable chat altogether. 4. Enable the word filter. That aside, Chiv2 is much slower minus all classes have dodge and sprint attacks making it feel faster when it is actually not. It is a completely different game though. It is somewhere between Mordhau > Chiv 2 > Mountain Blade. Chiv2 still has the better maps but combat is prescripted and animated with far less swing control. FPS was so much better in Alpha getting on average of a solid 120+ but now the FPS in the mid-60s to lower 40 FPS on animations look more janky, choppy. The other issue is that the footwork looks very floaty and player models skate across the map. Balistas are fairly solid, catapults are mostly useless, too big for visual accuracy, no follow-cam, requires manual reloading, and no way to accurately use them. Overall, it is a more campy version of Chiv1, that happens to be prettier but far less competitive and designed for Pub play.

i’ve seen a couple bad eggs and honestly a lot of toxicity. basically same unfortunate stuff you’ll see with other games that have chat (csgo, tf2, etc.) occasional racial slurs. “you’re a **** if you use ballista, you’re a ***** if you use rapiers, you’re a **** if you user the maul” basically you’re gonna get harassed for doing anything so the best thing to do is ignore it (either don’t look or turn off chat), or spread some love and positivity (i try to do this bc i want to have a good community and playerbase). i just bought the game last week bc i finally have a pc decent enough to run it but i’ve been following mordhau since the patreon days back in 2017. i’m very passionate about mordhau and i really just want the best for the game. (welcome to the club btw :) ).

6:34 The archer changing weapon thing is on purpose. I HATE it, but so many people cried about getting owned by archers in a close situation that they decided to add a delay on that. Basically, a bunch of Mordhau veterans whined about getting shot at ten paces and then having the archer quickly pull out a weapon and kill them in melee. HOWEVER, you can kind of get out of that by using jab to buy time, or just throwing your bow at them when they get close. This will be in my feedback. There are ways to nerf archers without taking control away from the player.

I have more than 1000 hours on Chivalry 1 and the 360 spinnings and the backhits were fucking cancer. Not even MMO games have such bullshit. It made too many new players to abandon the game. I was very happy when I saw that Mordhau doesn't have those issues.

The 64 players worked really well on the latest beta maps. I'd even love to see more or at least maybe 20 'filler' bots on each side. I found it to be really immersive having the battle spread out so much, the village attack mission was great because you'd wander around and see various small clashes of 5/6 people, find the odd soldier or encounter 2 v 1 or maybe even a teammate getting swarmed by a spawn charge group.. if all the maps have this large size and maybe even spread multiple objectives (Conquest mode would be amazing and perfect for spreading out players) then I think it will work really well.

Epic Store timed Exclusive = No buy for me. Maybe Epic should try to complete with Steam by having a better platform, or a platform which is as good as, rather than having to throw money at developers/publishers to try and force people to use the Epic Store. If it was a good enough platform he wouldn't have to throw money around and he wouldn't piss so many people off. It's a good thing to have more competition as long as it's fair. It's also slightly hypocritical of Tim Sweeney to launch his "holier than thou" legal case against Apple when he's pulls off BS like this.

This style of development fosters short term low quality, over priced "mini" content drops usually in the form of skins that push back real changes for a Low manpower studio like the devs of Chiv 2. This fosters a toxic boom bust cycle of player retention where players become bored with the lacking quality and content of the base game and quit, only to then return when the major update drops, usually to fix or add things that should have been in the game to begin with if not for microtransactions making devs favor skins and cashgrab mini dlcs over quality. They then quit again and comeback for the next major release. A quality game retains players thanks to the fun and quality of its core gameplay loop, not microtransactions.

@@oolbie9221 1. choosing to cater this game towards casuals by lowering the skill cap has fucked the people who have put the most time into this type of game and made the slasher genre relevant to begin with. 2. Nearly ever top level player has said there is no way Chiv 2 can support any real kind of comp scene due to its low skill cap. 3. Mordhau, the only slasher that has anything resembling a high lvl comp scene is already dying and this game was the last chance to revive the competitive slasher. 4. If you read my original comment I never said anything bad about the devs. They made a choice to simplify the combat for casuals and it will probably make them more money in the end(along with their choice to include micro-transactions and make an exclusive deal with the epic store)It's just really sad to see they abandoned the player base that made them relevant in the first place. There is not a single slasher game on the horizon and if this game takes off the only slasher games to follow it in the near future are going to copy the same casual formula and run with it 2/3. The problem is that its not just the comp players that were hurt by this it was all the people that only played on duel servers because frontline because too easy and they wanted to increase their skill level, it hurts all the people who liked to play skilled team duels with their clans and it hurt the players that enjoyed being able to destroy people in frontline based on their skill instead of finding the single meta in the game and exploiting it. when you lower the skill cap you also limit the amount of ways that players can interface with your combat system. Lastly the main part im disappointed by is that they didnt even try to make a game that was easier to pick up and play while still leaving room for a high skill/comp scene. I pray that they do make those changes to the skill-cap in future updates but the combat is so simplified that I just don't see how that's a possibility. either way thanks for keeping the convo respectful and you raised some very good points. Im just not as optimistic about the outcome as you are

I think the 64man chaotic matches are great for ''on the couch'' sessions when just chilling or trying to grind for some cosmetics or whatever. Smaller levels and servers would be better for more hardcore sessions, same with brawls or duels.

Not sure if it's been brought up, but you mentioned your hate of epic around 27:46, specifically how they "hold games hostage" and while they may secure deals with devs, it's better than the monopolizing alternative that is Steam, which regularly takes huge cuts of even indie devs profits AND forces them to list their price on every platform to be the same. For example, let's say on a $10 game, Steam takes $3 and Epic takes $1. I could list the game at $8 on Epic and $10 on Steam because Epic is taking a smaller cut. Steam forces people to sign contracts (and breaking them results in delisting from Steam) which force those listing prices to be the same across platforms so the devs can't entice people to buy from a different store than Steam (which would lose Steam money, and the devs would make a higher profit). Hope that was a legible rant there. I'm just annoyed with the hate over having to do the HUGE chore of downloading a free launcher/store. Not like you gotta go buy a whole 'nother console *cough* xbox/playstation XD

It is not a middle finger to the customer. If steam was the only client the consumer would suffer harsher prices. The fact the Developers get a higher cut from sales on epic over steam is a huge factor. No one is forcing anyone to play on Epic.
