Any time Tom is in the same vicinity (even virtually) as Lydia she gets sick.... I'm starting to think it's not about the shakiness XD

Above average nuclear physicist probably isn't good at nuclear physics because most people don't know it

This was my thought as well. An above average violinist would be able to hold the violin the right way round any maybe use the bow correctly because the average for most skills would be incredibly low.

It’s above average relative to others in the same field, not general population.

The slightly above average skills thing seems like a trap the more I think about it. Take flying a plane for example. The number of people who know how to fly a plane is very small compared to the number of people with no knowledge or experience in plane flying. So being above average at piloting doesn't mean you're decent at flying. it just means you're a little better than the people who have absolutely no experience whatsoever. That carries over to any skill that has a very small percentage of people in it. If 1 person in 100 is good at nuclear physics, the average level is just ever so slightly higher than rock bottom because its so skewed in the unskilled direction. That means the only things worth being better than average at are things that tons of people can already do anyways. Meanwhile, being the best in the world at something means you're set for life in that one field because nobody is better than you.

Hitting the button 33 times leaves you with a roughly 28% chance of dying, they don't add but it's close enough, there's a 72% chance of you hitting it 33 times and not dying. (0.99^33)

And there is a 0.004% chance to survive pressing a thousand times.

So far I'm the exactly average guy because I have no discernable skills but I do pretty well at anything I try, I'm exactly average height (for my country) and the "correct" BMI for my height, and I have no remarkable features, BUT I did push the button 244 times before I rolled a 1, so I've got that going for me :)

Survival chance on a single hit is 99%, or 0.99 as a fraction. Survival chance after 33 hits is 0.99^33, which turns out as 0.718, or 71.8% as a percentage. Does turn out as pretty much a 1/3rd chance of death lol

Lydia immediately hitting that 1 in 100 chance to die is so on-brand for her. edit: I should have kept watching before writing this comment, damnit Ravs

The median number of button presses needed to die is given by x, 50% = 1 - 0.99^x. x = log(1 - 0.5)/log(1 - 0.01) = ~68.968 button presses

The thing about being "above average at everything" is that the average skill level for any skill is "basically can't do it". Because presumably it takes into account EVERYONE, not just people who specialise in that field. The average person doesn't know the first thing about Nuclear Physics. So being above average means you probably just know the basic facts, if that.

I tried the random org thing and hit it 46 times before I got 1. I got 69 at least once and a couple of numbers twice, even 3 times. My theory was I'd write my will before doing it stating where the money would go, most likely to charity, then click until i died.

5 clicks, no death. At first I thought I'd click once, but then I clicked four more because it didn't feel risky enough. For me, 5K isn't worth a 1% chance of death, but 25K is worth a 5%. 5K wouldn't change my life, but 25K would help afford a house deposit.
