Hey friends! It's been a while! I hope you enjoy today's video and I just wanted to reiterate that my thoughts and support are with ALL those affected by war, and all refugees no matter where they come from. I have religiously keeping up with the news and trying to educate myself better about other wars that are also happening in the world. Immy xx

is it weird that I click on your videos like 20% for the content(which is fab-always informative) but 80% I just sit back and enjoy your voice because it’s so calming? It’s like a mini de stress! Xx

While watching this video… I was overcome with emotion as we/you chatted about soil and compost and the heartbreaking situation in the world at the moment. I couldn’t help but think here we are breaking down compost and making soil, while millions of refugees are wondering what soil they will next be standing on? What soil will become their home? Will they ever see their home soil again? It’s a painful thing to take in and at times I feel guilty about my privilege in this world. Ooff… my apologies, I don’t mean to be too sad. I am really looking forward to your composting series Immy, as turning food scraps into soil is so positively rewarding in every way. Thanks for allowing me to share my thoughts here in your space. It’s so great to see you back 💕 I hope your visa/paperwork is zooming along and your wild garlic and backyard nettles are plentiful. 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🌿

It’s great to see you back in the KZbin feed! Here’s a personal win from my composting journey. I live in an apartment and can’t compost, so I signed up for ShareWaste and found a local person happy to take my compost. I just dropped off my first batch today, and it felt so good to see community work together to do good!

I worry about rats in the compost, too, plus how to manage the air and water. If you or your parents are willing to buy a compost tumbler, that's helped me. I use the Dual Batch Compost Tumbler from Gardener's Supply along with their super-hot compost starter mix (I'm in the US). To save space, once a batch no longer looks like food, I transfer it to an open wire bin outside to finish breaking down. Then I can start a new batch. .... Thanks for talking about the Lomi -- I've seen the commercials, and it's outside my price range, but I'm curious.

Hey Immy & Idgy… we love y’all and have missed you 💕 Welcome back friend and feline. There’s just so much to love here… a bike bath, some Spring time foraging, your stylish floral blouse, compost and good ol’ fashioned dirt, AND bagels!! Immy, I want to know how you were able to show us those amazing bagels and look so modest while doing it❓ I would have been smug and beaming with bagel pride!! Can I just say that I loved the whole video, and the last 5 seconds were golden. Just like the Spring sunshine… you are melting away the winter blahs!! Thanks Immy… it’s great to see you on my screen again. 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🙋🏻♀️😻🌿

Fyi. Most organic dried bulk foods like peas, beans, nuts, and seeds can be used for garden seeds and sprouting.

I have a question :) If the Lomi needs Energy to compost, and outside/worm bin just does the same without energy... how can the Lomi be good for the environment? (additionally it produces CO2 when produced, how is the lomi recycled once it does not work anymore,...) I am not against it, it just feels counterintuitive to me.
@anothernight822 жыл бұрын
I think it’s the lesser of two evils. Some people fail at keeping worm bins. Hopefully, a Lomi lasts a while before breaks down. Maybe check reviews? Things can sometimes be recycled, but only until it's too weak to be recycled again, so it becomes trash. Many can’t afford to buy organic produce. They buy conventional, which means pesticides were used, that pollute the ground and water. This affects living things in the ground and in the water. One person’s solution will not always work for another. *We have to be kind to ourselves in our own journey to be the best version of ourselves while trying to make a difference in our own small way.*

I’m sorry to hear about your visa continually be pushed back, I hope you both are able to get it sorted out soon. I’m excited for you to make a series on composting! I currently have a hot heap compost but I am composting for 7 people and have found it to be very difficult to manage. I am currently looking at bokashi composting and think it might be able to help me reuse all this waste. I am excited to see your take on it!

If your compost is wet it needs more paper/cardboard. You can put it in there instead of sending it to recycling.

Hey, have you thought about getting a bycicle trailer? Here in germany we use them often, especially people with young children often have one with seats in them, but there are also trailers for dogs or just some that just look like a box on wheels. I want to get one myself, because I think that's a great way to transport heavier stuff with your bike and not having to use a car

Always love your content, so pleased to have you back. I'm using the hotbin composter. Like lomi, it's pricey, but so far it seems to tick all my boxes for urban composting with a lot of veg ends. On the slower composting side, last spring I put loads of veg ends at the bottom of plant pots (I don't drive, so I have similar soil procurement issues and was struggling to fill the pots) and honestly forgot about it. I was reporting some seedlings earlier this week and discovered I had gorgeous compost sitting beneath some spent soil in my larger pots! Wonderful!

Regarding composting - with the bin you have now, are you leaving it as-is and not adding more scraps until it becomes soil? And if so, where do you put your current food scraps?

Oh i dont watch the video till the end yet, but here are already 2 solutions for your plant beds problem : - challot and onion dont take a lot of space in the soil. You can plant things between them, with a larger roots system ! Maybe try tomato, pepper ? If I am correct this botanical family is happy next to garlic/onion ! - remove half of your onion plants before they are totally mature : they are edible, but you will ned to eat them quickly (or lactoferment them : yum!) I hope this help you ! :)

Oh you should try sowing things in between the onions!! There's so much space in between, especially vertical space, so I would 100% try sowing basil between the onions, and other herbs and leafy greens. Huw Richards shows in his videos how he tries to use all those in between spaces and it makes for a much more productive garden :)

Hey Immy… as for your raised beds… I think you can plant companion species of veggies near your onions and garlic since these plants do not have sprawling root systems. I believe you can plant beets, carrots, parsnips, spinach, lettuce, kale, or sweet peppers amongst your onions and garlic. Also strawberries… I’m pretty sure that onions and garlic repel insect pests that can sometimes be attracted to strawberries… and then… you can whip up some uh-mazing vegan strawberry shortcake. (YEASS, this is my best and most subtle attempt at a video request please.) 🌎💦Ⓜ️ary🍓🍰🍓 Cuz I just love me some 🍓🍰!!!!!!❤️🌿
