I used just 3 oranges to make 1 jar of candied chocolate peel, 6 orange lollies and enough vitamin C supplements for 2 months. Using every part of your fruit and vegetables it’s only rewarding but it also helps to save money.
CANDIED CHOCOLATE PEEL: 🍊🍫
peels of 3 oranges
•1-1/2 x cups brown sugar
•2 x cups water
•160 x g dark chocolate
•1/2 x cup chopped almonds
•sea salt optional
🥣STEP BY STEP:
-slice the orange peels of the size you prefer in this case I prefer them quite thin so each orange makes 8 parts.
-blanch the peels 2 times (because I use the whole peel keeping the white parts that are a bit bitter it will help to take out the bitterness)
-place the peels on a grid and let them cool and dry.
-in the meantime melt the chocolate on a double boiler and add the chopped almonds .
-coat the peels in the chocolate
-place them on a baking paper and let them cool completely
-store in an airtight container
-they will last around 2 months
ICED LOLLIES: 🍭
3 x oranges juiced
Optional* any fruit (I used strawberries)
STEP BY STEP:
- Squeeze the oranges using a blender or your hands
- Blend one punnet of strawberries (or any fruit you like), I used frozen strawberries but fresh is perfectly fine
- Add your blended fruit to fill up half way your lollies mold
- Top up with the orange juice
- Freeze over night and enjoy
VITAMIN C SUPPLEMENT:
- Blend the leftover pulp of your juiced oranges
- Dehydrate until completely dry or use the oven at low temperature
- Blend the dehydrated pulp or use a mortar to turn it into a fine powder
- Add the powder to your capsules and take 1-2 a day
NOTE:
- 100g of fresh pulp contain 52 mg of vitamin C
- I bought the plant based film capsules online for about 5£ and they last for a really long time

Man, oranges (citrus in general!) Is so versatile! My grandma cut up oranges in slices and preserved them in honey for a quick snack, addition to water/iced teas and to make warm tea! She also dried slices on a rack in the windowsill and hanged them from a string to dry further and make space for more 😊 The dried ones were re-hydrated and used in baking and while they were drying, they also doubled as room scent/potpourri ❤ grandma lived in a farm with her brother and parents and they lived low-waste for their entire life. I learned a lot from them all by just being there!

You ain't kidding... that indeed was impressive. Turning orange pulp into vitamin supplements, the peel into candy, and juice into ice lollies (popsicles)? True meaning of _"waste not, want not."_ Then again, any citrus fruits can be converted like so, which is pretty cool. All of that, and Vitamin C, too.

I appreciate that this man is teaching people ways to use lots or parts of different foods that would normally go to waste, but I have a very hard time believing he is able to consume all of this. But I understand that a lot of this if for the sake of education and getting creative with food
@CkTubeFu
@CkTubeFu 8 ай бұрын
Educating aside, the point is turning otherwise perishables into shelf stable forms so you GET TO consume them (however) later, before they spoil. It's easy to get inundated; In the summer here berries are always b1g1, +20lb fall pumpkins & other 'decorative' squash. So lucky to have a clearance section in produce as well... Or when the garden/nature flourishes. Not counting squash or what I gave away, I grew/ processed +100lbs in the family garden plot this year before the late summer drought & foraged just as much mushrooms. I dare you to eat 40lbs of turnips/beets/cabbage in a week or two btw😅🙅‍♀️ I'm not broke but I'm pretty bent. If it wasn't for preservation techniques like this, there'd be plenty of weeks I'd go hungry. I wouldn't be surprised how much rotation there is in that pantry of his & happy for the inspiration of techniques I haven't come across yet😊

Tbh I don't think I've ever met a real vegan irl who isn't chill like this, though I have met a single person who prides themselves on being "partially vegetarian" because they just only eat chicken 😭😭😭 that's just omnivorous bro sobbing I was trying to go vegan/vegetarian for a while to see if it helps my health complications but I couldn't keep up with making my own meals daily and having to give up even more on top of gluten, mainly eggs, and mainly nearly every nut including coconut so yeah that didn't work but it did make me feel better when I did keep up with it for a bit, being vegetarian or vegan is difficult and it's even more difficult if you're transitioning or have other allergies 🥲
@toadacrosstheroad
@toadacrosstheroad Жыл бұрын
Also, conclusion: real vegetarians and vegans don't give a shit they just chill like everyone else, stuck up vegetarians and vegans are just privileged enough to do it so they think everyone else should too and that they're less than them for not doing so
