ricky when i CATCH YOU RICKY I think this was a super smart move, and somehow it feels like they're already a building a ZB1 'sound' cause those lighter parts of the track like that twinkling sound idk, keep it grounded in ZB1 so cleverly. It's really cool, maybe a bit more conceptual in sound than In Bloom, they're giving VERSATILITY. That quick percussion beat you were talking about is drum and bass genre which was present in In Bloom as well. It is very y2k futuristic sounding. NewJeans uses it a lot too which slay. It’s in that jersey club-tinashe sound. I love it too and gravitate towards it.

I agree that its smart for them to do something quite different to their debut, but not so far off that it doesnt still feel like them. That high, tinkling sort of drum and base beat is still there from In Bloom, its just a little faster and the rhythm is more interesting. They didnt really go darker, just upped the intensity and power while still keeping the vocals quite bright and boppy. It weirdly kind of reminds me of Xikers' song Homeboy bc both have quite emotional vocals and lyrics juxtaposed with a strong electronic sound that somehow work really well together. I also think its smart for them to show off their dance more, and for me at least this choreography suits the style of dance of most of the members. I actually thought the mv sped up their dancing via editing, then i watched their comeback showcase and was like "daaayum, they really are moving that fast and sharp". I hate to open that can of worms, but it seems that unlike Kep1er someone on ZB1's team actually knows what they're doing as far as their artistic direction.

All throughout the mini, you can hear those crispy synths, quick percussive beats, and sooo much ambiance. Although the initial beat drop of the chorus of the song is very different from what we've seen, the post-chorus and final chorus are very similar in style to In Bloom. The songs compliment each other, like In Bloom was Daytime and Crush is Nighttime. I'm also curious to what the album covers will spell out as they get further in their career. For now, the cropping makes it say "You Had Me", so I wonder where it'll go from here.

I love our boys so much, they are always killing it and doing all that can possibly be done with what they are given, but honestly? The song is kind of a mess. They are saving most of it with vocals and charisma, but the NCT-esque noise section in the chorus is straight up bad. Also, the styling is weak again (I only like the street style looks), screentime distribution needs work and there's too much cgi. They did put Ricky on a motorcycle though, so I suppose we have to thank their team for this contribution to the culture. Over all, it's not cohesive enough for me. The comeback doesn't build on anything that's been established about the group in the debut (except maybe a style of choreography). It doesn't tie with any of the concept shoots, or the name Melting Point, or the general wintery-ness the pre release content was giving. I'm kind of mad about the arthurian legend and knight stuff, it came out of nowhere and doesn't add up to anything in terms of story. Not everything has to be lore, but you can't start with Hao suddenly holding a sword and then do absolutely nothing with it. I don't mean to be a hater, but there's just such wasted potential! In the end the creative vision over at WakeOne isn't strong enough (which is fair, making good art is hard and they aren't a kpop centered company, they don't have the in-house talent and on top of that the release schedule is crazy). Once again the best thing about a ZerobaseOne release is the choreo, which is still interesting and distinct, though less consistent than In Bloom. I do look forward to seeing them perform it. It's still gonna be great, mostly due to the sheer starpower of the members, and everyone looks absolutely god damn incredible. I'm also SEATED for the flood of variety content we are in for. Thank you Adam and RJ for staying on the Zb1 madness journey with us. Watching you go feral over these boys together is a joy in my life ❤.
