I usually can do that with just a van since I have enough hobbyist electronics design experience to actually do it properly (I had to look at both military and automotive electronics specifications, they're extremely strict given the environment electronics will be in - example - if I want software-defined traction inverters that can appropriately react to the gas pedal, it has to have a few microcontrollers that it can safely fail over to without causing any issues - safety is a huge factor in EVs), yet it's a very expensive endeavor in my honest opinion.

@JLneonhug27 күн бұрын
Without disclosing too much specifics, with the talent they had, there was alot of things which "made sense" unfortunately when it got nearer the end, they started just to slap things together. They had innovative ways of assembly (arguably too innovative), until time/money ran out. As you take things apart you will see silly things which aren't complete or bodged. These are the last 20% of the project, which normally is the most tedious ones to solve. Consider it a project vehicle. I would say, fundamentally they didn't "do wrong". A failed tesla project if you like, considering tesla nearly failed and panel gaps and other things galore. You would expect this kind of theme throughout the Arrival van. Good luck, look forward to the updates. Edit: Ha! Joe's really important stuff... Joe was the technical engineering lead (the guru, nearly the technical founder). Very good detailed guy, but way too many hats. I'm sure he lost a few years from his life with Arrival 😅

@@Hazell_Nutzmaybe an automatic thing for the vehicle. It assumes that if you're stationary with the doors open (or what it thinks are open) and with the van on, it assumes you are pulled over and delivering, so likely parked somewhat dodgy/at the side of the road/in the traffic flow, so chucking the hazards on increases the visibility to other traffic. It therefore won't go into drive because the load doors aren't closed/locked (or it thinks they aren't). Can you borrow a sensor off the parts van?

@markmelb5732Ай бұрын
@@patreekotime4578 Exactly the point. This is a vehicle that is being constantly evolved and yet they buried the operating electronics so it was a pain in the arse to get to. Shit engineering.
@patreekotime4578Ай бұрын
@@markmelb5732 Clearly, they didn't NEED to replace any of these components. It's highly likely that just about every vehicle they built had slightly different components and electronics tweaked to work with those specific components. This whole 'hot swapping' idea will likely NEVER fully work because of that, unless they can match up the specific components. Heck, he admits he doesn't even know what these random modules specifically doing, or what impact they will have. I could swap around a dozen different little controller modules in my very well documented car and never fix an underlying fault... in fact, swapping around modules from different iterations could potentially introduce NEW faults. Especially when there are 11 iterations between one and the other. There's no guarantee that those same wiring harnesses connect to the same things at all. So he's actually pretty lucky that it didn't get worse. And by the time they were actually ready for production, my guess is that there would have been a whole series of packaging changes required for serviceability. Elon Musk blows up his prototypes and everyone has high praise for it. These guys retire them to a back lot and you want to be fussy about it. Same-same. Built. Test. Iterate. Repeat. We've never seen Tesla or Rivian or Lucid test mules so we literally have nothing to compare these to. My guess is that packaging in prototype vehicles is almost ALWAYS an absolute mess and things are just put where-ever they fit and serviceability is figured out later.
@Hazell_NutzАй бұрын
There are so many things on this van that should have never got this fare. Having designed, developed and manufactured complete ev systems this thing is not good. If you have seen my videos about the battery packs they were always going to fail, so over complicated and expensive. The components are all well engineered but clearly the over all management was the big issue. I have been checking pin outs before plugging things in and the reason I am not swapping over any of the PDU’s is because they could be programmed differently.
