I never even knew this upgrade was an option. Looks like a huge pita though. I've been sitting on an android head unit for awhile myself. Trying to figure out how to run the aux in a way that not janky. Your new setup looks much more worth while though. I love seeing all the retrofitted stuff man. Your E92 is going to be pretty bad ass when its done. Your car is turning out to be some pretty serious inspiration for my build. Keep it up man, cant wait to see more.

Thanks for the kind words. This infotainment is next level. Huge pain to work out yourself, but if you get a full kit, its not hardner than a android install. Problem is the cost. However if the car is a keeper, i think worth every cent.

The NBT system looks and sounds great Andrew. Massive improvement on the OEM system like I have. The echoing issue when making a phone call wouldn't be because both the phone mic and car mic are picking up your voice. Another great video.

No its to do with how the amp processes sound and then how the Unit listens to the sound in the car. I think its just amp runs a small delay that the NBT isnt looking for. So it thinks the sound is the person in the car speaking, not the speakers,.

The E60/E90 IDrive screen design was the BEST! It was perfectly integrated into the dashboard which made it flow very nicely through the rest of the interior and reduced glare on a sunny day. All the subsequent IDrive screen designs were a DOWNGRADE from this.

Yes agreed. Just think with the rising cost of the injectors and if you already have some of the supporting mods it’s a no brainer…at 500+whp you shouldn’t care about gas mileage lol. Will you be making a video? Not sure but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of videos out yet!

I’m doing this at the moment. The NBT evo ID 4 has GPS port from factory and 2 GB ram. Id5/6 didn’t face GPS factory and used an ATM for GPS signal. A GPS plug can be added to these later ones. The ID can be updated to id5/6 firmware 1803 which supports Apix1 screens (ID 4 screen)

Couple of questions if I can. How is that lovely touch controller mounted to the CIC centre console trim. What have you done with the DAB antennas and the lack of FM2 in the car. Happy to share the guide/wiring diagrams I’ve done.

Hey Mate, i used a file to get the controller in place. The NBT controller was only slightly larger than the CIC. I then used the original CIC controller mounting screws locations with large washers and holds the NBT controller perfectly. I do not have DAB antennas. Only FM. Tbh i never listen to radio. So didnt bother even looking in to the DAB setup.

Some iD5 and iD6 head units did actually come with GPS and DAB built in, but they are less common to find and are reliably more expensive than the ones without.

@@ZeroTo60Tube just done this today, Fakra splitter for FM antenna and generic DAB antenna worked well. Block I've hit is getting the faceplate. Mind if I asked whether you secured the HU in the cage and whether you had to drill the HU for the faceplate panel to pop in correctly. Final hurdle!

Damn! I wanted to do the NBT EVO retrofit too but after finding out how much I had to do to do that, I gave up and went with CIC xD I mean, CIC with Combox retrofit it fine too for the most part but now I also want to do NBT EVO retrofit again lol, I'll look into it again

If you've got the Logic 7 amp system you can update the amp using WinKFP to the latest software so that the NBT unit will be able to communicate with it on the MOST network. I've ran into this issue myself and the software update solved it.

perhaps for NBT but defs not EVO. Only the Harmon Becker F series Amps have the right firmware to support the EVO phone command on MOST bus to disable processing (and stop the echo delay for callers). Only the NBT EVO has the delay issue, NBT units still provided the old command to E series amps to disable the delay in processing.

I have the first NBT model, not the EVO, mine had no sound at all, so had to update the firmware on the amp to fix that issue. I have no echo during calls.

i wouldnt take it on for someone else.... however i know a guy in QLD and thats what he loves doing. Mind you not for the faint hearted. Its a 5-10k aud conversion depending on how you option it up.

I put in an Xtrons in my 1er, and although I love the screen quality and responsiveness, I am not impressed by the software at all, or the wifi. Wifi downloads are ULTRA slow, even with the included antenna plugged in. 500mb takes 4 hours to download, but just times out before that, so I gave up on downloading offline maps. The features on the unit are also very limited. Calls don't work (ear-murdering static) and bluetooth cuts off sometimes. And recently, my amp relay went out, which I'm still troubleshooting, so hopefully it's not related to the Android unit. Overall, the sound system, not the powertrain, has been the MOST FRUSTRATING thing with this car for me 😅 Maybe I'll try this nbt retrofit next! I love listing to the engine & turbo noises when driving, but I also want music & podcasts sometimes.

Hmmm thats annoying with the sound system for you so far. While i think NBT EVO is by far the best. I dont think its going to help with the amp issuse. It will help with the phone calls tho. The noise cancelling in the NBT EVO is next level. It makes people think you are in a house. Not driving in a car.

I know it’s been done. However I’d imagine it’s horrifically expensive. If you are trying to make 700-800hp the n54 will be cheaper. If you are aiming for 800-1000hp a b58 will be cheaper. It’s the 1500hp builds where the Barra makes sense.

I havent tried but i know with BMRetrofits software on the NBT EVO it does full android auto as well. I didnt get in to it in the video. But its basically the 2024 software from BMW, but with the android auto and carplay all activated. Unfortunately those activation licenses do cost a fair bit. Well i see people charging $400us for carplay activation.
