I've had this for 21 years. Been through hell and back trying every drug known to man. Through desperation I turned to diet and have pretty much cured it and live a drug free life with barely any discomfort. I removed all grains from my diet and processed foods, sugar dairy. Spent 6 months just eating meat, fish, fruit and vegetables. No bread, wheat, rice, oats, cakes, pies, pizza's, etc. It was tough but truly life changing. I was on 20mg of Prednisolone a day just to get out of bed. Now I'm drug free, no pain, no stiffness. Good luck to those of you suffering with this awful disease

Just got diagnosed a few days ago. I have had the symptoms since I was in middle school. Over 10 years of progressing joint pain, and psoriasis patch on my knee. I've been to so many doctors and all of them said nothing was wrong. The joint pain was in my head, and i just needed to rest more. Finally found a doc who knew what the problem was right away. Better late than never I suppose. If you're a doctor reading this... please don't tell a 12 year old joint pain is normal and to take it easy. 😐

21 now and the doctors expect me to have some kind of arthritis. I’ve had this patch on my scalp for over 4 years now and I’m actually quite pissed that my GP never thought it might be psoriasis. Could’ve prepared me for what is to come now. Also had swelling in my knee for over 2 years. Same GP said she didn’t know what it could be and maybe I should just try a physiotherapist, see what that does. I barely have any faith in the health system anymore.

I am a patient of psoriatic arthritis, diagnosed at 18, in pain since early teens. My arthritis is severe, at age 22 and 23 i had my right then left wrist fusion surgeries. It continues to advance in my finger joints as well as my feet. My pinky toes are considered permenentLy fractured off as the bones have completely eroded away. I have been on anti TNF drugs since 2 years into my treatment. Etanercept worked for 10 years and then i was no longer receptive to it. Im working to find another consistent treatment but i am now on my 5th alternate biologic having failed the previous ones. This disease is horrible and devastating to its patients. Especially those with a more severe form. Thank you for the information you provided in this video, very consise but very complete. A good guide to understanding how it works

I've had it for about forty years but when I inquired none of the physicians I talked to recognized it in a relatively mild form. Until a Radiologist friend instantly told me about it and I sought treatment from a local dermitoligist and Rheumatoligist who have helped me control both. It comes and goes and is never ending.

I was diagnosed with PsA two and a half years ago. Everything in this video is spot on. About ten years ago started developing a "chronic dandruff" that was not treatable by shampoos. That was scalp psoriasis. Around five years ago started having stiffness in hands. Have had plantar fasciaitus in the past as well. Then I was getting the fingernail separation, thought was simply a fungus - not. For decades had an on and off painful butt crack inflammation. Up to now, never complained to PCP. Then things got serious... Got one "sausage" toe, then a second one. Thumb started to have a growth/bump on first knuckle. That was bone degeneration. Thighs would ache getting up after sitting down "too long" in one position. Hips would hurt from lying in bed. My feet were a chronic source of pain and discomfort when walking - heel, sole, toes. Fast forward to two years ago. Humira cleared up all of my pain symptoms within a couple months of treatment. Today, no more scalp issue. No sausage toes/digits or nail issues. I still have bump on thumb since bone damage is not reversible. Most importantly, arthritis has essentially gone into remission. Some minor skin plaque psoriasis has broken through on lower legs, but this is better than PsA. I hate to sound like a cheerleader for drugs, but Humira (adalimumab) was a game changer.

Reynard’s syndrome is also very much part of the parcel so look that up. I was offered biological drugs 20+ years ago when in my 20s but refused them after reading the drug information leaflet. Boy was I wrong! 8 years ago out of sheer desperation and immense pain I accepted Methotrexate, a chemotherapy drug which suppresses your heightened immune system. Best move I’ve ever made 👍. I’m 50 and this is the first time since aged 8 I’ve had normal skin 😀 my severe joint pain has lessened, I’m able to live a more normal life in the knowledge that my joints won’t now deform as quickly as they were. I still have flare ups but on a whole much better. Even looking more normal is a huge bonus I didn’t realise how affected I was by my appearance and gait due to pain. Couldn’t hill walk or run a marathon but generally way better, it’s a miracle drug. Good luck and be good to yourself xxx

The most modern classification is the CASPAR CRITERIA (2006) The entry criteria is inflammatory articulate disease of joint, spine or entheses. It is a scoring system that takes in consideration 5 things: 1. Psoriasis - 2pts current psoriasis - 1pt personal or family history 2. Nail dystrophy - 1pt (must be current. Onycholysis, pitting or hyperkeratosis) 3. Negative RF - 1pt 4. Dactilytis - 1pt (current or personal history) 5. Juxta-articular bone formation on hand/feet x-ray - 1pt Final score = or > 3 points, it is positive for psoriac arthritis. The specificity is 98,7% and the sensitivity is 91,4% :)

I’m 14 and was just diagnosed with psoriasis by my dermatologist. He also believes it’s causing psoriatic arthritis because I experience occasional joint pain in my knees and ankles, and consistent joint pain in my elbow. Though, he is not 100% positive its psoriatic arthritis as I am still growing and it could potentially be growing pains. Hopefully it is just some growing pains. I am going to a rheumatologist soon to see what they think.

Really interesting and clearly put together. If this is helpful to future doctors I can share - My skin psoriasis cleared up (I think my Colladeen visage tablets have helped with this) but my back fused at the lower vertebrae and I have suffered back pain for a long time (comes and goes and often travels into my legs.) no-one from a medical background has ever asked me to do a checklist for arthritis. When I was told about the psoriasis diagnosis it was with a shrug of the shoulders. i heard about the link to spondylitis from a neighbour and had this checked out but ok so far. I also have dry eyes (I went through a phase of repeated iritis) . Not much seems known about psoriasis but inflammatory conditions do seem to be a big problem for many people. Good luck to your studies. Doctors are doing a wonderful service and those that do so with a smile and noticeably caring attitude (which can be hard when overworked) are even more special. I enjoy watching ‘GP’s behind closed doors’ on the tv - spotting signs and symptoms is important for us all!

Please, Im no doctor but read into how diet can help you with your health, many tips are within the comments. All bits help, it costs nothing more than buying this products and can only give positive results. By all means not saying to drop your medication and ignore your doctor, but just look into it to change your diet to see if you can get better and maybe in agreement with your doctor, even lower the doses. Our food has been messed with to both make people crave for more and to keep people depending on medication. Lupus is a disease that has gone rampant only recently, one can wonder why? They tell you its better diagnostics but is it? Lots of food can cause your symptoms, like tomatos and bell peppers in some people make inflammation go through the roof, while beans will sooth your pains as it levels your blood sugar. Let food be thy medicine.

Was diagnosed at 13, now im 20 and im doing well (except for my right thumb which has severe laxity and is in a splint 24/7). I miss small joys like drawing without pain, being able to open a bottle on my own, or heavy lifting - yet im also so greatful for my doctors and nurses who took care of me. Back then I could barely walk, a wheelchair wouldn't work unless someone else was pushing me as my hands were in pain too. Now I look like a regular person (on the outside at least)

@@eugeniebreida1583 Humira (adalimumab) is an il-17 inhibitor. It targets interleukin-17. While Skyrizi ( risankizumab-rzaa) targets interleukin-23 (IL-23). Both of these are Monoclonal Antibodies medications. Talk to a Dermatologist to see what type of medication therapy works best for you. Your doctor will tell you which medication is best for you depending on your health history and on the results of a blood test. I was on Otezla (apremilast) before being switched over to Skyrizi. The Otezla didn’t work for me and it gave more horrible side effects. Skyrizi hasn’t given me any issues what so ever. We went with Otezla pills first because I don’t like needles. I should’ve just gone with the Skyrizi from the very beginning. I noticed immediate results.

For PA joint pain/stiffness management low dose of antidepressant helped massively (10mg. of Prozac once daily) , prior to that I could barely get up from the bead , walk etc. I was on strong mix of pain meds every single day nowadays I seldom need to take pain meds , 10mg of Prozac cut about 70% of pain/stiffness issues . Nails got little bit better/stronger too as well as skin psoriasis . An odd one but please try if it works for any of you to make life with this awful health problem at least little bit better/easier to live with .

Psoriasis is defined as a long-lasting autoimmune disease which is characterized by patches of abnormal skin that are usually red, dry, itchy, and scaly. It is a common skin condition that speeds up the life cycle of skin cells. It affects men and women equally and can begin at any age, but it is most common between the age of 15-35 years and again between 50-60 years. Psoriasis is commonly associated with several other conditions, including- type 2 diabetes, inflammatory bowel syndrome, heart diseases, psoriatic arthritis, etc.

Your paragraph above makes more sense than the whole slide show. As usual the MD's are creating boxes for us to fit into. The arthropies (sp?) are largely overlapping, and the skin manifestations of Psoriasis are also variable . . . at least FIVE types of skin lesions, not only 'plaque psoriasis'. This is how patients are denied a diagnosis. This guy should go back to school.

Parts of this are very incorrect. The part that says that if you have not developed psoriatic arthritis within 10 years of skin changes then you are unlikely to get it. This is wrong. I urge you to clarify and check your information with organisations like PAPAA. Sufferers of this condition often face many years of misdiagnosis due to incorrect information and lack of knowledge in medical staff. No wonder when these medical staff are being taught incorrect information.

Good clear info. I am wondering how worried I should be if my toes on right foot are feeling swollen and very stiff to move. I had to delay my appointment with my rheumatologist due to her being 2 and a half hours away with a large elderly patient roster. I am on Enbrel which has helped a lot but my toes are really hurting and I can't leave the house due to coronavirus. Any info is appreciated

my rheumatologist just diagnosed me as having psoriatic arthritis when i dont even have psoriasis nor any of the symptoms that were shown here. i had a half centimeter dry skin which was confirmed as dry skin by my family doctor and my rheumatologist said its psoriasis...its located just above my wrist and is completely gone now. she also said i had dactylitis which i never had. i only had most of my hands swell from inflammation for a few days from carpal tunnel syndrome (both hands) which is also gone now but my CTS stil needs to be done. what to do with this kind of specialist?
