I wish I had this channel 12 years ago when I was in nursing school. I would've thrown away my nursing textbooks and studied from zero to finals.

My daughter had this and was throwing up black yet her pediatrician said she was fine and not even dehydrated. Her heart eventually stopped and was resuscitated and taken to her third hospital where they did an ultrasound and found it. My daughter is 14 now and thriving.

Did u sue the pediatrician? Their management of your daughter seems negligent

That’s an open and closed malpractice suit right there. Many doctors are great but it’s good to always trust your gut, ask as many questions as possible, and challenge them when you are concerned. I’m glad you were able to get a new physician who could help.

Omg I'm sure that was beyond scary. I'm so glad your daughter is doing better today

This is interesting but why does the pyloric sphincter thicken and undergo hypertrophy? Is there a treatment option without surgery? What are the long term side effects of adults who had their pyloric sphincter cut as babies? I read that vitamin d deficiency is associated with hypokalemia, and also rapid isotonic saline infusion results in hyperchloraemic acidosis, so wouldn’t a possible treatment be testing the baby’s blood levels of vitamin d, and if deficient giving a vit d injection and stabilising its sodium-potassium-calcium levels via IV? People don’t cut out their anal spincter when they’re suffering from hemmoroids so I’m wondering if cutting the pyloric spincter in the stomach is much the same thing?
@Riptide314 Жыл бұрын
There is no non-surgical treatment, and I've had this surgery, I haven't noticed any side affects and no doctor I've known has said there'd be any side affects.

People would have cut their anal sphincter if they had no issues if stool came out on its own without creating a scene!!! As the content of stomach has to proceed through the sphincter.. it doesn't matter. Moreover the sphincteric action of the muscle is not completely gone as it is myotomy!! Not pylorotomy.. part of musclr burden is removed here.. so no harm no foul

My father had this in 1955… then my nephew and any other first born male in my family…. It’s a real theme. Then whilst I was at a lecture many years later, the commanding officer who was the surgeon to my nephew (I hadn’t made the link) showed a photograph of my fathers scar and my nephews (amongst others)… I was gobsmacked A surreal moment in life… first born males it seems Brilliant video, thank you 🙏 xx

I had this when I was a baby and they didn’t know what it was at first because it was mostly found in boys back in the early 70’s. My younger brother and sister did not have it. I have had 1 boy and 1 girl and neither had it. So I guess it is not hereditary! I was so happy my kids didn’t have it. Great video!

I think it’s fair to say to say that Ramstedt named the procedure in 1911 referring to the classical surgical technique without the use a laparoscope. Apparently the first laparoscopic pyloromyotomy was not performed until 1991.

I was wondering why my son's surgery in August 1988 was not laproscopic. He was 3 months old. He's 36 and now a great healthy young man. 🙏🙏🙏

My son had pyloric stenosis and was operated on at three weeks old . He was breast fed every three hours and hungry , he was a normal chubby baby , he wasn't pale and put on weight as normal . The only symptom was projectile vomiting . He's over 40 yrs old now and very muscular and fit . Only one symptom out of your five .

Excellent, clear explanation of the basics. As one who had this and have had chronic (but relatively mild) gastric troubles for many years I wonder if there is a link or a common cause?
@noelbinayas17304 ай бұрын
Can be more accurate... Ramstedt did not do his pyloromyotomy laparoscopically! Not yet done in his time.

My daughter nearly died about 4 years ago. She was our first kid, typical symptoms. Three ER trips, and two clinic trips later a FIFTH doctor in a weeks span, FINALLY believes us. We were treated as overly worried new parents. Little did we know we were VERY right. Admitted to hospital immediately and sent to children’s hospital next day
