► ABOUT THE PROF: Dr. Jackie Calhoun is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She also works as a Pediatric Critical Care Nurse Practitioner in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
She graduated as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (PNP) from Rush University in Chicago, Illinois in 2013, and completed her DNP in Health Systems Executive Leadership at the University of Pittsburgh in 2020. Besides her responsibilities at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Calhoun is involved in a number of different professional organizations, including NAPNAP and SCCM. Furthermore, Dr. Calhoun serves as an item writer for the CPNP-AC certification exam.

I am a 50 year old woman, and I have "adult" acquired pyloric stenosis. Also i have the gastric outlet obstruction. I can't imagine a little baby suffering like I have through this!! They say it is common in babies, but very rare for adults. Mine is severe, but I'm having so much trouble finding someone that will do my surgery! I've been through 5 surgery consultations so far!! They say I'm so malnourished that my body is eating itself! But no one wants to do my surgery because of my health being so poor, because local hospitals are not equipped, because I need to go to a hospital that have specialists that are qualified to fully handle my case! Well I can't afford to go back and forth and out of town like that! And no guarantees they would even take me for the surgery!😮
