Outside of having "Player Pause" indicator, in Brawl and Smash 4 it does the wide zoom out when that happens, it doesn't zoom on the other player. So easy miss.

I think the reason why people rage quit even seconds before dying is because it gives them the feeling that they somehow still lost on their own terms instead of just having it handed to them. Worst ragequit I've seen was a grand finals between a Ness and a Bowser. Ness was winning 2-0 and on the third game Ness ragequit because he messed up on a combo in the beginning of the match.
