TOP C64 GAME MUSIC - 3.5 HOURS!

Welcome to my video showing 50 of my favourite Commodore 64 game tunes, I have come across many stunning tunes whilst developing this marathon to the point I cannot stop listening to them and yes I know there will be some of you saying "what about this tune, why did you leave that tune out" and so on but as you can apprieciate I can only fit 50 in 50 and these are after all my personal favourites but I'm pretty sure you will still happily have this playing in the background doing whatever you're doing.

That C64 sound is the most distinctive of any system in gaming history. I didn't play most of these games, but hearing any of the soundtracks takes me straight back to when I was about 5 years old, playing Octoplex, Power Drift, Insector Hecti, Fast Food, Destruct, Commando, and Chuckie Egg 2.

This is just everything :) When my dad brought home my c128D in 1990 it came with some disks, most with games - one filled with music demoes from Finnish Gold etc. My brother and I (he was 5, I was 9 at the time) would load them in over and over and sit endlessly just listening to them. It’s pretty busted now but on a good day it will still load, because yes, we are still geeks and we still play commodore games (on a real c64) and watch demoes to this day! But he also ripped it so it will never die! - on a side note I own The Great Giana Sisters on LP, game on one side/music on back! It loads and plays fine, I mean cassettes work so why wouldn’t a record? It’s on my KZbin channel 😅)

Martin Galway is one of my favourites on SID. I used to load the games up just for the music. Parallax and Times of Lore title tunes my top 2 of all time. Times of Lore had an awesome solo at the end, which was different every replay. I don't know of any other game music that ever improvised a solo.

Nice list. I thought I knew a lot of classic c64 tracks but this compilation contains a lot of music I'm not familiar with. Cool that you included Zamzara, one of the most underrated c64 games in my opinion.

Nice selection all round - and good to hear them from the real thing as always :) The tune you chose from Last Ninja II is actually The Streets (loader) - but the whole of that soundtrack is great. The title tune to Twin Tigers was first used in Scout by Mastertronic. And a challenge: see if you can spot the cover versions in this selection - there's a few..

Thanks for the video! Musically a very good selection here. Before and after 17:40 I can hear some of the motifs from my first C64 game love, Mountie Mick's Deathride. Perhaps Ben Daglish has involved with Deathride's music as well..

Cheers bud, yeah I know mate, that's the trouble with doing lists like this and why I tend to stay away from them because they'll always be those who complain that certain games were left out or my choices are garbage along with other selfish comments,...I got the same deal with my Amiga and ZX top game tune videos, I also remember those who gave me crap on my C64 Cracktro marathon saying I left certain cracktro's out,...I mean WTF?!,...it was 12hrs long for christ sake, what more can I do?! :-/

The Zamzara title music by Charles Deenen is my favourite here but I would have added the in-game music from Eliminator by Jeroen Tel.

Lots of good music here, no doubt of that! However, not many of my personal favorites made the list, if I made a Top 50 list I would probably include at least the following: Platoon (both intro + in-game), Cobra, Double Take, Mutants, Netherworld (intro), Druid (intro), Feud, Ace II, Wizardry (The Edge game, every tune in it is great), Beyond the Forbidden Forest (all monster tunes), Bionic Commando (all levels), Inside Outing, IK+, Tetris (Mirrorsoft version), Gauntlet (intro), Ghostbusters, OutRun, Rainbow Islands, Shockway Rider, Space Harrier, The Vikings (the music was ripped off from the movie The Labyrinth, though), Vixen, Terra Cresta, 3D Skramble (rip-off of Brian May's tune from Flash Gordon). But in case of C64, there's so much good stuff to choose from that it comes down to personal taste what people place at the top.

It's indeed a standard C64c as the music sounds much better coming from the 8580 but the tunes which contain digitized sounds are recorded from my C64 otherwise they'd sound too faint using the C64c.

The NES had more voices, but you couldn't really switch waveforms on the fly like you could with the SID, making the SID way more versatile. Not that there weren't any good tunes on the NES, but most of them were done by already established musicians such as Tim Follin

I am not a fan of 8 bit music EXCEPT für the SID chip. This baby has a indescribable quality to it other audio chips of the era could only dream of archiving. Of course this is subjective and someone else might feel differently (Wich is perfecrtly fine) but this is how i feel about old 8 bit (game)music.
