This is more Zevon joy! Live on Dave from 11/8, here he is doing LG&M PLUS the song "Trouble" PLUS a short interview. Again, I do not own this but want to share his music with the world.

What a brilliant dark sense of humor - "caught the crew making a suicide pact". Had the chance to meet him near the end of his life at the hospital and he was asked if he needed more pain meds, he quipped, "no, but i'll take it to go" . Still ahead of his time!

You can tell from Zevon's lyrics that he would have been a kickass detective fiction writer. His quirky, evocative lines just shimmer, (tough guys, easy women, fast dangerous car rides..wow) the images are all there in the music...
@knopflerfan9069 Жыл бұрын
he was an avid reader and one of his primary genres of interest was detective fiction, which he said influenced his songwriting, so you're right on

I saw this tour when it played an intimate basement club in S.E. Portland, sitting just spitting distance from three of my musical heroes: Warren on piano, Timothy B. Schmit of Poco and The Eagles on bass and backing vocals and Dan Dugmore from Linda Ronstadt's band on guitar. That night Zevon performed the most outrageous song segue ever, going from an audience-confounding cover of the Tom Jones hit "What's New Pussycat?" to his own iconic anthem "Lawyers Guns and Money." Mad as a Hatter!

Yep, this was a great one too, but you should have seen that Portland audience wondering why the hell Warren Zevon was singing "What's New Pussycat?"

A lot of people always forget the impact Warren's songs had on everyone. Sometimes shocking, sometimes controversial, but always tinged with a little dark humor just so we can laugh at ourselves. A true American composer that will be missed.

Wow. What a misinterpretation of well-documented history. Hippies sought social justice, expediting changes in racial segregation and civil rights. Hippies protested the military-industrial complex, helping bring to an end the Vietnam war. And don't forget their generation's contributions to music: Dylan, the Dead, Jefferson Airplane, The Doors, etc...Pardon them for not sharing your materialistic values, your interpretation of the American dream. Pardon them for caring about humanity.

I am beginning to appreciate just how intrepid and subversive Letterman was. Like me, I think he genuinely admired, adored and was amused by Warren Zevon, but I also think Letterman loved making his tv overlords nervous. Music aside, inviting Zevon is like inviting a trickster god to your office. It's going to be fun, but I know I'd probably check in with my lawyer ahead of time - not to put my affairs in order, but to make sure he's not going out of town. Just in case.

I remember seeing him at the Party on the patio in Houston Texas. At the end of the great music concert. He said " No more encores my ride is here". He knew that he was dying then. He was on David Letterman talking about the names of his last 3 albums. Life will kill you. ☮️💜🇺🇸

@toadbeacon If you're still looking, his first "real" album (the one titled Warren Zevon) has an amazing collection of song--"Poor Pitiful Me," "The French Inhaler," "Carmelita," and "Desperados Under the Eaves" are standouts, but they're all great. The last has one of my favorite couplets from any song: If California slides into the ocean like the mystics and statistics say it will, I predict this hotel will be standing until I pay my bill.

If nothing else, I'd love David just for his love of music & his musical tastes. I miss Warren & will always miss him. My favorite Warren memory is when I took my sis to see Warren Zevon in the early 90's. She didn't know who he was. I sat next to a guy who had his ears stuffed with cotton balls. I asked the guy if he had ear problems. He said "No. I always have to do this for heavy metal concerts." He was serious! Warren played the piano for most of the night and I still laugh today. Great post
