EU's General Safety Regulation for Commercial Vehicles: Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA)

Attention can waver, especially on long journeys. As a result, drivers sometimes aren’t aware of changes in the speed limit. Enter the “Intelligent Speed Assist” (ISA). The system identifies speed limit road signs and displays the current speed limit on the dashboard screen. In case the vehicle exceeds the speed limit, the system issues an alert to encourage the driver to adjust the vehicle speed. This would help to prevent accidents, fines and increase driver efficiency.

Since the traffic sign recognition system in my car fails about 40% of the time, I would like to know where this idea comes from. And making a law out of it is stupid to the max. That's more danger than help.

among others, Antonio Avenoso, Executive Director at European Transport Safety Council is mainly responsible and has actually been actively pushing for a system that would prevent the car from accelerating above the limit. It’s an absolute stupid legislation and I can encourage everyone to complain to this man and his unintelligent policy

I will never understand how the fuck that ISA system could recognize those traffic speed limit bords by detecting the number on it. Especially since each traffic bord is unique in shape and color and signs on it. but if it does recognizes it, then compares that number with the speed you are driving sothat if that speed exceeds that number, then it will give a warning whether with bleeps,vibration,activating a speed limiter or by commanding you with a voice. Seriously i freaking HATE all these digitization process these days in everything, thus violating our privecy even more, AAARRRRGGGG😡

I was complaining about all this when remote keys were introduced. Cant you just cover the camera, whereever it is or will it be needed for some other functions? You can switch it off, but need two press two buttons for it. Imagine if the camera is broken, maybe you wont be allowed to drive because they think you want to go around this! I cant believe this is law! You know what should be law?? Giving us a manual handbrakes, and the option of manually locking a car without a keyremote should the electricity fail!

Sorry for this LONG text. But car dealers and my mechanic tell me no this is not possible, on quora I don’t get a lot of answers, but on these videos people do mention physical and digital modification! And they complain a lot like me! I am really interested in this. I’m just worried that fixing cars myself is too much for me, I am still learning to get around all the issues with batteries lithium to AAA, still haven’t figured that out, some people offer solutions to some. Of course people say, oh building in a new lock or a new door is as expensive as a new car, well I can’t buy a new car! THEY ARE SO MUCH WORSE! I’ve been complaining about remote car keys, which lead to individual car locks removed, then to all four doors opening, to no door locking as soon as one is open (Yes you could do all this with central locking, even the first remote keys!) to not locking more than your drivers door with a key, for ages, because lord forbid, that you might be in any emergency where you want to only open one door, so you don't get ambushed, or could leave someone in a car without the key still able to open a door and lock it! NO the real danger is when you are driving, it is the most important thing your car locks itself when you drive! Not to mention, there might be an emergency when you need to jump out of a moving car (like not being able to pull a handbrake?), yes lets lock us in! I know of one hostage story where her life was saved by jumping out of the car in time! You could even leave a kid inside, even with electric windows, you could just open ONE door and not have to worry about someone sneaking from behind. And lock up back again. I feel pissed off at this when I am in someone elses car, as an adult, but hey, you can leave your key with them! Either to roll down the electric windows, (I still think the earliest could also just run on battery! so yes you could lock and close a car without a key but just with the battery) which I also never wanted, or if you have to get out for a second, so you can lock the car. NOW you could leave a kid with a car key they might accidently press. Yes kids could learn don’t touch the brake or the key, I’m leaving with you so you can open the windows, if you don’t feel safe with the way doors open. Now there are two BUTTONS! COULD just be a mistake! At least there are some car models that allow you to change the open all car doors to just one. I still don’t know if you could lock the other doors then when one is open. Yes tell me how crazy I am how I think a horror movie or crime movie would really be happening or how often I would drive to dangerous city parts. That is not the point, what was the point of car locks? How convenient were they, how easily could you lock yourself in, without people getting at you? No, the real problem is when we are driving, that is when the car needs to be locked! Not when I am getting in my car and not being able to quickly press the lock and pull my door close, no close it first and then press your remote… or put the key in the ignition and press the central button. Of course the mugger could simply try to open another door I’m not pulling, which leads to me not being able to lock all doors! Or there could be two criminals! I also heard that some cars have the central locking through battery if you press the button for like 5 seconds. Could be too late. Why not make it immediately? At least, something. Say that to the way old central locking worked in cars! Works with battery! Every door has its own lock! Only opens your own door when you exit (Except the drivers door. This makes me mad the most. My car has a central lock button, not the drivers lock, and every single door opens all others, except it should be just the drivers door now, now EVERY door unlocks every door) Can lock your door and close it without key! Can central lock all four doors while all of them are open THEN CLOSE DOORS! Now I cannot even lock my car if one door is open! And even if the battery failed, you could still lock all them manually! IT EVEN ROLLED UP ALL OPEN WINDOWS! I was afraid of people reading my frequency when remote keys were introduced, and nobody could tell me how long it would take before a criminal could simply run through all frequencies... I have seen a crime show where a woman was murdered in her own car because you don’t need the skills to pick locks or startup a car just a computer for the car key or worse, for the engine! There are button press cars stolen by people walking with laptop near the house wall and getting the frequency it constantly emits! No talk if you could just have a hard switch to stop that when you don’t need it or people could also scan you key when you are shopping or use aluminiumfoil! I also don’t want my car to open just when I approach it or lock, just when I go away. Forget the dangers of constant wireless, I want to decide if I want my car open, or if I can leave people with my unlocked car without giving them my key! (This of course goes back to the old problem of leaving people waiting inside a parked car with no power to lock themselves back in) Now you cannot even stay in a car and get fresh air because you need the key for windows, and now you cannot leave without opening all four doors and not being able to lock them again! There are cars that not only lock all car doors when they are open with a remote, locking and unlocking is even possible with just the key hole! I don’t know if that is still available. Those even work with just the key hole! But no manual locks, I think. At first I thought I could just use the key and open my drivers door, which I do, and open all other doors if I have a guest (like we did with a four door without central locking) or put the thing in the ignition and open them. (because I still don’t want any one to read my opening frequency, since no one ever told me how safe it is!) But I cannot use the key on just locking my car, since again all four doors open, once the central locking is one! No individual locks, or say a passenger lock to go around this. (and I have four doors anyway) IF I could change it to just my door opening I would be lucky BUT IF it turns out this brand doesn’t do this like others I will be so pissed. (I say this because while I don’t think knowing my locking frequency is dangerous, I worry about if the battery in my key dies. There is a way, open window, press locking from outside, pull the key, close window quickly, of course this needs car battery) I guess I could drive around with my own door open, and lock the key through the window without central locking. MM. But again a great feature of newer cars is that they lock automatically when you drive, so important, but I don’t think my car has this at least.

I had to split this in two because yt doesn't allow to post long answers. Not that they tell you, so at first I looked for curse words. Luckily there are some cars that have some of these features, individual locks on one year old cars, or a carkeyhole that locks all doors, and even works when one door is open with a remote which is a great feature in itself several years ago when this car was made. I still have to wonder if they open all car doors at once, but at least there are some ways to lock it back up, even if you are technically using a car or key battery. I guess I would still have the new car with individual locks, because I was used to locking my own door as soon as my father left. I just don’t feel safe! Maybe you can even program this car to only open one! I was so happy when I found this in the US, I almost cried tears of joy, everytime I locked my own passenger door! Unfortunately this new manual lock isn’t done here in Europe. BUT these cars had wireless key buttons, and electric brakes. On a flat parking lot this so called brake made the car wobble a lot, the way if I DON’T have my own handbrake in. If some newer cars add an electric aid when you are on a hill, ADDING to the normal brake this would be fine. Im Bavarian, recently parked on such a steep hill, I didn’t try moving forward, or leaving the car with just my strong handbrake! Took me 5 minutes to get over my anxiety and start the car and park somewhere else! I could never imagine with these new things I witnessed, that WOBBLE WHEN YOU LEAVE THE CAR ON A FLAT GROUND. Also wasn’t Anton Yelchin killed by a car because he didn’t know the complicated way to put it in neutral? Yeah, either it malfunctions and rolls away, killing people, or I have read it is stuck and you block the road for two hours! People need to complain and refuse to buy stuff. It started with tvs without power buttons, they are getting back, with more buttons even if they are still hidden, just like less touchscreens for radio and heating, but when I asked people why they bought this, why they weren’t angry. "Oh I had to buy it" No you DIDNT. There was a choice at first. People weren’t that accepting of inconvenient stuff, which is why some things never became successful. I’m still baffled how people were so accepting of lithium batteries over AA ones and all the problem it caused, with 15years until at least most cables were universal. I sometimes tell kids, how much more convenient it was to have battery handheld gameboys, walkdiscmen or cameras, visible buttons on any device, or not having to ask a passenger to change the heating or radio. They are amazed and at least THEY had no choice. I still don’t get why adults did this. I was so mad at the way my new car worked with the locks and the remote, now I’m thinking of trying to keep it forever. Still would prefer my old ONLY manual lock with keys and no electric windows from 2002, how do people make sure those still run? Think of it, has an ignition, manual handbrake, MANUAL windows in the back, should I be trapped under water, a key that locks ONLY when I press it, a manual trunk lock… no speed limit, alcohol lock, internet updates that need antivirus. No build in GPS, or blackbox, so I am free… If I had had the change I would have bought a model with the individual locks and a passenger lock which that company did but doesn’t anymore. So what would be better, keeping my car in shape (Any tips?) or maybe trying to buy a five year old car with these features? And as always five years ago, I still wondered, if a mod can program my car not to open all doors, if that is not an official option (I know it is not with newer models for the Dacia brand, but I haven’t asked for my model) To close the door when one is open? How expensive would it be to build in a manual lock, either for a key, or to press down? I guess it would need modding in the computer, too. Or maybe exchange the door from the same model with the different features?

Only a very stupid person can order this system throughout the EU without providing quality underlying data and marking all limits. This will actually just stress everyone out because it will beep all the time. The result will be two possibilities, the driver will be stressed and make more mistakes or he will start to ignore it and thus all other beeps/warnings of other systems.

This will save so many lives. This needs to be added to all existing cars by law, not just new ones. Also, it should mute the radio because a lot of drivers will just turn up the volume to drown out the beeping.

it is so useless. it can be turned off. everybody will turn it off. beeping will just cause the speeders to get distracted more. building in more speed cameras is the only way to reduce speeding

How do you know someone is drowning out the system with their radio? They would have to be brutally loud. If it is compulsory, the manufacturer should be liable if it is wrong. Both for accidents and for speeding. (As far as the system is responsible for the excessive speed, of course).
