Great animation! I really loved this. I remember reading about Sakai's battles in the book, "Samurai." It's good to see part of that story come to life in this.
Over Iwo Jima Sakai took on a whole bunch of Hellcats. . .and not one could put a single bullet in his plane! His book Samurai is epic!

You got it right. Also, you probably know that at that time, Sakai was one-eyed during that dog fight. Sakai kept skidding his Zero with rudder inputs so that none of the F6F pilots could get him, not even knowing why.
The first half is "DIAPASON" from an album named "ACE COMBAT ZERO" The second half is "HRESVELGR" from the same album.

Very good film. There is little known about the war from the view of japanese pilots. Although i know some great japanese aces as Saburo Sakai. Greetings from Germany from a lover of japanese culture and airplanes!!!

Thanks. Then how about this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZK1qGaEgdZ9a7c He is the Ace of Aces in the Pacific.
I'm confused, translated that the enemy plane is German? Is it the plane type? Or where it belongs to? Cause the Star sign kinda represented the Allies who were against the Germans. :s
It's a lousy likeness. Our heroes were baby-faced. You gotta see the original pix. You see a photo of young Sakai and you wonder who the in their right minds would put such a teenage goofball in a Zero fighter. Sakai was ruthlessly trained, but that hardly smotherd appearances...
I read saburo's book about his 64 kills during ww2. in the acounts about his head wwound I thouight he said it was about a case of mistaken id about the a/c he dove on , that he thought they were f4f's but instead he encountered 8 gruman torpedo bombers in acutality they all opened fire at a point in his dive through that formation past the piont of no return then took the hit in his scaple/helmet. then flew onto rabaul tries to eat and opens his soda in the cocpit makes a mess.

@@wright2128 The most of the Kamikaze pilots, or the real name in japanese was Tokkotai pilots, never wanted to be kamikazes. They just had to obey the orders. Most of them were not fanatics at all.

Saburo Sakai is a liar. I was disappointed to find out that my childhood hero was just a liar. Real samurai either died in battle or survived without much to say.

And then he made critical mistake by tailgating the Douglas SBD Dauntless... Never tailgating the obsolete plane that gained the nickname "Slow But Deadly".

No disrespect, but his claim is questionable at most. He claimed to be shot by the TBF Avenger while the truth it's SBD. In fact, in that day he himself claimed he shot down 2 F4F and 2 TBFs before getting stung by SBD. The truth was, in the US record, there was NO TBF down that day, and he had only 2 possible kills, an F4F and another SBD (I use the word possible because it's not confirm who shot that SBD down). About his 62 kill counts, lots of historian doubt that. In fact, lots of them believe that he had only around 28 kills. Over-claiming was a thing for Japanese pilot. For example, Iwamoto Tetsuzou claimed that he down 78 SBD in his service, which is impressive because there were only 75 SBDs being shot down by fighter in the whole war. That's quite impressive achievement, he shot down 104% of all SBD being shot down in the whole war. Very impressive.
