I was able to make my playthrough almost entirely fighting Cathay. I hard rushed east and took all the settlements, the puppets took the Snake gate and Grimgor declared war on me so I made peace with the puppets and signed a trade agreement with the wardens to buy myself some turns before they attacked me. I'd sent my secondary army to raze one of grimgors settlements so that it could be conquered by heralds causing them to go to war with grimgor, after that I rushed them with my two stacks and occupied all of grimgor's settlements and traded them off to Kholek for money and a military alliance allowing me to fully focus on war with cathay while wiping grimgor off the map. (I still got hit with Da Biggest Waaagh)

Playing this...100 turns in on Hard. My advice - clear the east including Vilich, then anything Cathay. NAP with Kolek and the DE, maybe Nurgle if they survive (for me they did), Grimgor will come rolling and here it depends on what the other chaos dwarfs do, for me they held so Grimgor was squized out, if they fall then Grimgor is tough (peace with Cathay will be needed). At this point it is gg, do your thing :). Tech wise I started with Mitary to buff hobgoblins and then full economy. Have fun!

Thanks for the guide good to know it's best to just take out Vilitch right away since it gives you more territory. I thought I could make peace with Vilitch then let him weaken himself against Cathay and sweep in behind him to take over his territories, but he decided to turn around and declare war on me instead of pushing into Cathay.

You can be friends with Vilitch, just don't expect him to do anything useful.

I was actually able to get Villich's Norscan vassal to trade me a bunch of territory in Cathay with basically little to no strings attached. Im not sure if that is intended but it worked out for me teaming up with Vilitch

My first run thru Grim rushed the east forcing me to address him first. Wiping out Grim early is the key. He was easy.

Managed of get rid of Grimgor turn twenty, invited Kholek and Astrogoth to join in, turned around as soon as I'd finished with Lothar and Celestial Wardens have a poor economy and have to deal with Vilitch so it took twenty turns to strike back. I don't mind building up before taking on Cathay will probably finish sorting out the Darklands first shouldn't take long to confederate.
