QUICK UPDATES: The manual focus function doesn't work on the Cami App anymore. Not sure if this is what Zhiyun intended or not, but for now, the only way to use it is by using their new app called Stacam, which is a semi-professional app (almost like filmic pro) that will also support most of of the buttons from the gimbal. The app still needs some work in my opinion and some advanced features are behind a payed subscription. I recommend that you give this app a try, If you don't like it you can keep using the Cami app as usual. PLEASE let me know what you think or thought about STACAM. Amazing video. I just purchased the smooth 5s, however once iv balanced and set everything up, if I slightly move left to right, through the camera it looks like it’s wobbling or not stable. Is this on every gimbal or a defect on mine?

It might be an issue. At 1:45 I think it’s just the angle of the camera which is not pointing straight to the gimbal

hi, yes you can change the gimbal modes even if the phone is off lol. the trigger will still work for sport mode and to flip the phone around, and that's pretty much it

hello Fars! there was a recent update and the focus wheel doesn't work for now. I was in contact with Zhiyun about this issue and they said they would take a look at it. They also now offer another app called "StaCam", which has more a few more pro features than the Cami App, and the focus wheel works there (tested on my iPhone, will test on Android soon)

hi, yes it will help to smooth out the footsteps but you also need to walk accordingly. You need to use pan follow (the mode that locks the tilt so it doesn't look up or down, sorry, sometimes I forget the names since every gimbal uses a different one)

Thankyou for the tutorial and your review on the smooth 5. I was set to buy the DJI OM 5 until I watched your comparison video. For me, the smooth 5 was definitely the right choice, The choice was easily made because of your clear, concise and unbiased review. I was hoping you could point in the right direction on something I can't seem to figure out on my own. I wish to record some movement drills with the smooth 5 in order to analyze any make corrections where needed. The problem I'm having is that when I have chosen myself to be tracked (will be using on a stand) I can't activate the hand gesture feature to initiate the recording or vise versa. When it comes to tech I've been known to miss the obvious. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy note 20 ultra. On a different note I've also recently acquired a DJI mini 2 so my thanks and appreciation doesn't start or end with the smooth 5 lol. Cheers.

hey there! congrats on your Mini 2! it's a nice little drone! did you figure out the hand gesture? you have to activate it on the main screen. I'll try it out to see if it's not working. There was a recent update to the Cami app and lots of features stopped working. I emailed Zhiyun about this but I guess any fix will come after their current holidays over there (Chinese New Year celebrations)

If you pay their prime membership you can use some streaming services, but I don’t think Skype is included

Ok, I solved my startup question but I'll try another one for you. I put my phone on the gimbal and was testing out the movement. All of a sudden my cell phone is out of battery. I mean the screen is blank. I was not running the app either. What drained my phone? to I need to cable my phone to keep it charged?

hi Robert, no you don't need a cable attached to your cell phone, it sounds like your phone just died. Remember that when shooting video it will drain the battery faster (I'm assuming you were using the regular camera app, did you check how much battery you had before testing the gimbal?)

make sure that bluetooth is connected between your phone and the gimbal. Perhaps a quick test is to perform the auto calibration from the app to see if the gimbal responds to that command

You need to connect the phone with the gimbal via Bluetooth for the zoom and the shutter to work. Manual focus only works on the Stacam app, I've been complaining about this for a long time but Zhiyun doesn't want to change it so we can use that on the Cami app.

Hi Otto. Is there a way to follow something if you don't want to have it in the middle? Have you also experienced problems with the focus? I have had the experience that if I want to film something but have something in the foreground and want to focus on the thing behind it doesn't work which is frustrating.

Hi. The tracking will always try to place the subject in the middle of the frame, there is no way around it. As for the focus, you can tap on the screen on your main subject to focus on that instead of the foreground

Hi Otto, Thank you for putting this tutorial together. It is very helpful. I have a problem, though. I have been using this product for a few days now and i have noticed that in PF mode, the roll axis is jittery even in the slowest of walks. To prove my point, I ran this test several times using the phone's native camera and the cami app as well as filmic pro. The result is still the same. I then ran the same test using my OM 4 and the OM four is stable so I concluded that there is a problem with the smooth 5. I brought this to Zhiyun's attention, and they advised that the gimbal is not yet compatible with my Galaxy S22 Ultra. My question then is this: If the gimbal is incompatible with the phone, why is the footage from the phone's native camera stable? Is stability driven by the app in use or the three axes of the gimbal? hey there Kullie! where to start? stability is something that you are getting from the gimbal, the 3 motors combined, right? but software can play a roll depending on how it's coded and its purpose, but what I saw over there is not normal. Question: when you used the native camera app were you using the Smooth 5 on the video that you sent me? (the second one) Try turning off the stabilization on your camera and do the test again with the ZY Cami App. I also sent your video to my contact over at Zhiyun and I will wait for a response. Thanks for this video. What sort of power supply should I use and how do I know when it's charged? I have had it plugged in to an iPad15 Watt charger for over 8 hours, and there's no light come on to say it's fully charged. The manual says not to use anything over 18W so I have not used my iPad 5 charger, which is 20W.

Hello Derek! The mode indicator lights start to light up when it's charging. When fully charged, all 5 lights should be on. If yours is not charging I recommend using a different power brick, that usually fixes the problem

Hello Mohini. They are currently not working on the cami app and I’m not sure if they will fix them at this point. Most of this buttons will work with their other app (StaCam), but this app lack some of the features that you have on the cami app. The other thing that is also not working with cami app is the focus wheel, it does work on the other app and I have been told that it also works with filmic pro (third party app)

Hi. I like your video and tutorial. I have a problem with brand new smooth 5 and Samsung Note 9. When using ZY Cami app I can make photos and pano, but i can't record video. Text appears: "Recording failed". What I must do to fix it?

Not sure what's going on. Can you try the gimbal with another phone to rule out the gimbal?

unfortunately this depends on your phone and the cami app, so we can't change any settings regarding the buttons

Hi there, thank you very much for your videos, they are really detailed and calming down the people who does not know a lot.. My question is i have just bought smooth q4 but in the Cami App the rare camera so the main camera works on Black and white, i didnt understand why. I think it is about the app. So i am thinking to send it back but i afraid if i buy smooth 5 because of the same app even in the all we choose our device i am afraid it wilm do the same thing.. What do you think? And secondly the wheel is working also in other apps like the basic app pf the telephone or Filmic pro etc? I would like to use this wheel as a focus arrangement in any app and also would like to adjust other functions etc.. Thank you very much..

Double check if you activated a filter by mistake. I think they are on the upper right corner

Hopefully it is working now.. Do you have any suggestion for micro ? I want to take both ambiance but also speaking if there is.. Rode VideoMic is ok for beginning? Or microcravates with or without cable can work also? I really wonder what do you think about these.. And lastly i also wonder your idea if you would choose the light combo pack offerts or the simple led lights which i can buy around 20-30 euros? Thank you in advance for your support..

Zhiyun ha removido esta caracteristica (no sabemos si es un error o no) de la CAMI APP. Para usar el enfoque manual con la rueda hay que bajar la aplicación llamada STACAM, es de ellos también y ahi si funciona para enfocar manual. Les he pedido que arreglen el enfoque en CAMI APP pero hasta el momento no lo han hecho

Hi! Flip it manually before turning it on. Make sure that the position is like the one I’m showing on my video. Hope this helps!

for livestream I suggest to just use the Smooth 5 as a tripod/holder and use your desired app as normal. The only advantage of using this over an actual tripod is if you are moving around, since it will stabilize your movements

I know that de DJI Osmo 5 depends more on the Mimo app than the Smooth 5 on the Zy cami app. My question is: can the Smooth 5 be used without the zy cami app?? PAN FOLLOW, LOOCK FOLLOW, FOLLOW MODE and POV MODE, can they be used without installing the Zy cami app? These modes can be used because they are on the gimbal manually... but, can they be used without relying on the Zy cami app?? And the Smooth 5, can it be used with any smart phone regardless of the range?? Sure, to use Zy cami, it's best to use an Iphone, but without the Zy cami app, can I use any smart phone?? Hi Otto, good video. have a couple of questions - I had to replaced a bad unit (or at least I thought it was). in any case, I followed your video 5 times, and seems like the buttons don't respond as you describe. I understnad the dial button to the right and left (ISO and display) are not working yet, but when I click menu it takes me to the annoying "smart template" unlike the main-manu that you get. In addition when i turn the dial it doesn't do anything - where as you show that it changes the mode from camera, video, pano, etc. any ideas?

they did something to the app and now it works different, have you tried to use their pro version of the app? it's called stacam, less features than the Cami app but most of the buttons and dials work as intended. I've been sending them emails as well about this whole thing, because the manual focus doesn't work anymore with Cami app either, but it works on stacam.

It has an extra function. Normally you press the selfie trigger 3x. however, depending on the zoom ex(0.5), the axis will appear and that would be bad. So to correct this point, in selfie mode, press the trigger 4x, it will change the axis backwards. The funny thing is that there is nothing like this in the manual. but it works!!

Get it replaced asap, I have read some issues like this, which gets fixed after replacement. I got mine today which charged fully within an hour or so.

Sometimes I use their app (ZY Cami App) depending on what I need to do, for example, if I need to track someone or something, I will use their app. Otherwise, I like using the app that comes with the phone (native camera app). To mount the transmitter you might need to buy an articulating magic arm

microphone needs to be connected directly to the smartphone. I don't think you can connect a USB mic like the HyperX one to a smartphone (not that I know of but I could be wrong)

hi, these gimbals usually can't film at 60fps, it's more of a Samsung issue than the gimbal itself. Zhiyun released the new Stacam App for the Smooth 5, give it a try, more features, more options
