In RM's verse when he is referencing "giving up on the third, giving up on the fifth", in Korean, he is referencing the giving-up generation, the younger generation who, in order to afford the cost of living, give up things we would see as essential like family and happiness. The third and fifth are the levels of how much is given up. I'm kinda a baby army too, I fell in love around March this year! So I probably botched a bit on this explanation, if anyone has more in depth let me know 😅 But yeah, RM has my favorite part in this song for sure! It is so interesting that unlike so many other songs I've heard, the rap lines have the main verses, and the singing hangs off of the rap instead of the rap closing up the song. I have been really enjoying how y'all do your reactions, you guys are really great and unique in your own way! I do have a suggestion, if y'all want to look at it- Suga's "Interlude: Shadow". It has a lot of the same themes as Black Swan, and I discovered it recently and I think I died from overthinking after watching it for sure. I think you guys would enjoy it just like I did!

Youre doing well baby ARMY! What you said was correct.
@Honey-je4pr3 жыл бұрын
You're doing great! BTS is truly the voice of our generation. RM's verse with sampo and ohpo generations is basically millennials who have given up on "the dream" of having certain things that previous generations had. It's too difficult to get a house, get married, have financial stability, etc. It captures the frustration we have when boomers tell us to work harder - but literally, we're already working as hard as we can, but we'll never catch up, so we've given up.

BTS “Dope” Explained by a Korean Fan kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJm6hpSdjqeVqqs
@timberslogs90963 жыл бұрын
So basically when BTS was still new there was a lot of people, specially fans of other groups that would say that they were copying other people's style. This song was mainly them declaring that whatever they do is by their own style and own hardwork. Along with talking about themselves they also shed light on different professions and how every profession requires hardwork and is dope.

Jimin stayed up all night practising, SUGA stayed up all night writing and producing songs. Jimin wanted to be a policeman in RL. I've read that RM is a lift attendant but he could be a hotel doorman. This has become an iconic dance for them and the words really hit home. SUGA is a sweet guy in a savage package. He and V have a very dry wit. J-Hope is our sunshine. Jin is the one who gets them laughing with his dad jokes which he uses to keep their spirits up. He's also the one who rounds up the maknaes (youngest) and gets them off stage. There's a fun video showing him doing that.

Suga is the one who stayed up all night writing songs. Jimin would stay up all night practicing. He would even sleep in the practice room just so that he could practice more. RM is a hotel bellhop, V is a private investigator and you recognized the others. When you switched gears and realized that hey were referring to working hard, regardless of your profession. Jimin was also the singer that you were talking about at the end that needs a lot of attention, according to RM. J-Hope is a good singer but technically, he's part of the rap line. You guys are doing pretty good with figuring out who is who. I know that it's a lot to remember. Eventually, you get to the point where you can recognize them by the shapes of their eyes over a mask. Most new ARMY learn really quickly that hair color is the one thing that you can NOT count on to figure out who is who.

I think in this particular mv the reason they're dressed as those professions is because it's an emphasis on the working class professions, normal people who worked hard all day to get where they're at. The concept that you took away which is that they're dressed as who they might have been if they weren't musicians is actually in the music video for their song Heartbeat, which is personally one of my favorite songs and has a message that they were actually destined to be together and to be musicians and perform for Army. I was the 3rd viewer - you could actually see stats like that back then (now you can go on the second an mv drops and you are one of the first 2-3million viewers) It took all of 20 seconds into the MV and I was full on ARMY. By the way, RM's outfit (the black and gold) is actually an elevator operator. And, no, that was not a cocaine reference. In S. Korea sing drugs and smoking weed is not "a waste of time", it's actually a very quick ticket to going to jail. They don't play. Even smoking weed is getting you a stint in jail.

I love that you look deeper into the meanings of the lyrics and that you're starting to recognize the long uphill battle BTS has had to get where they are now. And the sad and frustrating thing is, it's still on-going. Right now, as they've dropped Butter, ARMY has worked hard to buy the singles, stream the MV, request airplay on US radio, etc., and there are still music critics trying to diss BTS's success saying they somehow "mobilize" or manipulate their fans into boosting them and that it's an "inorganic" process, when really fans supporting the artists they love couldn't be more organic. I'm just saying this because I really want you guys, all reactors, really, to understand why BTS gets so much support and loyalty from us, because they've worked so damn hard and they still get a lot of uninformed sh*t thrown their way, especially from the West, from people who don't take the time to know them and understand the 8 years worth of struggle and negativity they've faced.

Maybe it can be both - a drug reference because it fits too and I was thinking it's something on the line of being a 'Yes' man. Maybe especially in Asian countries (?) but it also holds true for the rest of the world, we are expected to say 'Yes' to everything. We should keep quiet, keep our heads down and do it, suck it up even if we want to say no - this is especially kind of true in a lot of occupations or just what sh*tty bosses tries to do to their workers.

Considering this is a BTS MV, you can never look too deep into the lyrics or every gesture. BTS in general of their MVs from the start of their careers are very meticulous in incorporating lots of details (small & big) and also there's always meaning to every MVs they're making; can be subtle reminder/response to their haters and just general issues they've observe and experiencing. As an ARMY, myself this is my first MV that made me curious about them and got to the rabbit hole. After watching and understanding the lyrics it blown my mind... BTS is no just making MVs just for the sake of having MVs but they're making MVs for people to enjoy and for people to learn about the message of the song, and people are really getting into it; that's what different theories out in the open... just like it did to me. 💜 *BTW, BTS have many diss tracks on their albums but they way their doing it were very subtle. They're doing wordplays BUT on RMs & Suga's mixtapes, there you can hear and watch their MVs with bars and cussing. I can say those were fire and just dope😁🤭

Pro tip to interpreting songs: Check which album series/era a song came from. BTS albums are grouped under overarching high concepts (who else do you know does that?). DOPE comes from the The Most Beautiful Moment in Life era, w/c talks about "YOUTH" - the joys of youth and the pain of being on the cusp of adulthood. So some emblematic songs in this era are: 👮 DOPE: Encouraging us to fight the stigma of young people being lazy (see Baepsae) 🔥 FIRE: Similar message, but tells us that it's okay to not have your life together; you're young, live a little and burn stuff 🏀 INTRO: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MOMENT IN LIFE: Suga waxing poetic about his feelings of aimlessness and fear of the future. What if he never finds his purpose? 🦋 RUN: The importance of having friends as you struggle through growing pains 🐦 BAEPSAE: BTS' fabulous way of saying "ok boomer." Watch the explainer! 🎤 YOUNG FOREVER: Almost like a confession, them being aware that youth and success won't be there forever, but they'll keep chasing that dream. *A MUST TO UNDERSTAND BTS.*

@@krsarmy15 I'm Korean. JJUl-EO have two different meaning- "Dope" and "Awesome". For this song, "JJUl-EO" definitely means "Awesome" or "Very cool" as casual slang. "Sick" is little bit different. This title doesn't imply physical fever. ( However, I've heard that "It's sick" means "It's cool" in English. In that case, Sick could have same meaning). Sorry for my English 😀

@@airyfairy2396 Your English is great! Thank you for the clarification, too. I was wondering how accurate my friend's translation was, just because slang is so hard to translate. So sweaty from a fever and sweaty from hard work have different words? Ah, I am never going to be good at Korean! 😭 But it's OK. Thanks again for explaining! 💜

@@airyfairy2396 Yeah, in this case, "sick!" is English slang for "cool!" Same as Jjul-eo meaning
@Honey-je4pr3 жыл бұрын
@@krsarmy15 Nah, Jjul-eo just means "that's so cool!" in Korean. The boys say it in Run or other live situations when they think something is cool, same Daebak.

RM is a bellboy. Imo in Dope they're appreciating these other job occupations that work hard and don't party all the time with each member playing a character. Suga is sleepy because of producing and Jimin is a really hard worker but they all work hard too. Ida S has a good guide on the members updated. Ppl should check it out. J-hope is a rapper and subvocalist.

So happy you guys also watched the introduction videos! I hope you'll also consider watching 'Run BTS'. Just so you can see how the kings are together and create absolute chaos 😂 Just like the 'hotter' Butter version; a lot of fans love their chemistry, their bond and their shenanigans.

They are dressed according to a profession... working hard every day to make it in the profession-they worked hard not messing around to make it in their profession so you work hard to make it too. I believe that is why they are wearing different professional outfits... encouraging us to not stop because others are goofing around. Follow your dream. Growing up RM always wanted to be a Security guard... and so he is in this video.

The rap line (RM, Suga and Jhope) are more direct when it comes to dissing their haters. They do have rap tracks within BTS album thqt does that but you right about them being polite. They do not clap back by saying anything to media. You should watch the radio interview with a bunch of rappers where Suga and RM was being treated badly and disrespected by other rappers specifically Bfree. They were very polite during the session but they responded with Cyphers 1-4 which would silence those rappers. React to those please. You will be blown by the flows and wordplay. You can also see their growth in skills and their attitude towards their haters.
