@@TomsJurjaksuntil I can afford a better one, the Sony E 55-210 F4.5-6.3. I’ve managed to get a few good shots, but I am finding the camera has been focusing too slowly, or focusing on the wrong player when they in a battle along the boards. I’m working on finding the correct settings, without having to increase the ISO too much since the image becomes so grainy. If you have suggestions on lenses etc, I’d love them!
@TomsJurjaks4 ай бұрын
@@conteh4447 you are in a very tough environment - indoors and with fast moving subjects which means you need a fast shutter speed and increased ISO. Good thing the ice is so bright :) Ideally you would get a full frame camera. Even like A7C could be a good enough I believe, but that also requires full frame lenses which tend to be more expensive. If you stick with A6000 - limit the focus area to zone so you help the camera know where to focus on. And perhaps ask someone to lend you a prime lens. Its not ideal for sports because you cant zoom but perhaps if you are close to action, it could work. A Sigma 56mm f1.4 perhaps could be a nice addition. The fast aperture would allow you to keep the ISO down.

You can achieve the same results using centre focus and recompose in single shot for most of the issues you have identified. The only benefit to back button autofocus is where you are generally focusing on fast moving objects. Even then there are other ways such as lock on subject tracking. I think a lot of it comes down to your personal style and methods.
@TomsJurjaks3 жыл бұрын
I agree that there are several approaches and preferences. For me the biggest benefit is that the camera will not refocus when I half press the shutter button down. This means, I can take 2 pictures 1 minute apart without refocusing while without back button focus, you would have to hold down the shutter button halfway down for 1 full minute, otherwise camera would refocus and you would have to repeat the composition again.

Hi Toms, very well explained video on focus for users like me who use a6000. I've had it for 5-6 years. Just a quick question, is there any quick tip to not miss focus on eyes of your portrait subject? For me, its always hit and miss. Sometimes its sharp and a lot of other times, its not focusing. Hey Prasanna, thanks a lot! Well there are 3 things: 1) Newer camera will definitely have improved AF performance; 2) Good, high quality lens will also help a lot; 3) but besides those 2 things which require you to spend cash, try selecting zone AF mode and limiting the space where camer has to search for the focus.

I have a question about focus, on my a6300. A couple weeks ago I was trying to take a self portrait in the mountains but the focus was always out and ended up using the manual focus; having to figure out by trial and error where to focus. So, I set the timer to ten seconds, hit the button, get in to place and shoot; out of focus every time. I realized that it was keeping the same focus as when I first pressed the button. So, when I got in to the shot, the focus was still for far away. How do I set up the camera where it changes focus when the object in view changes? Thanks.
@TomsJurjaks3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ray, thanks for your comment. Have you tried setting your camera to AF-C (which is continuous auto focus) and in settings ENABLE Pre-AF. I usually disable Pre-AF as it most of the times just unnecessary focuses, but in photos, especially with the timer, the camera takes the focus when you half press the shutter and usually then you are closer to camera. So having Pre-Af enabled possibly could solve your problem. Alternative solution is to use a remote or Imagine Edge app on your phone. In that way, you could get in the place and when you would hit the shutter button (on remote or in app) the camera would focus and start the timer. Also it would be easier for you to see where you need to stand. I really hope this helps. Its a bit of trial and error with self portraits I guess. Let me know how it goes Ray ✌️

@@TomsJurjaks under the drive mode (Timer) the camera won't let me do AF-C; that's the setting I usually use. As long as you are holding down the back button focus and have the AF set to Continuous AF then yes, you will hit it. A6000 or fujifilm xt200 ? 🤔
@TomsJurjaks3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick, if you don't mind be limited by Fuji's lens selection then go with Fuji as it is bit better than a6000. Alternatively, you can go with Sony a6100 and have access to all of the lenses from Sony, Tamron, Sigma etc.
