I changed from a Canon 5D MKII full frame to a Sony a6400 for the sake of my back and traveling but I missed full frame. Now with the a7cii, this gives me a way to stay with a small body but back to full frame. With this in mind, would this upgrade be worth it?

I have both cameras: my brother's Sony a6700 and my own Sony a7 IV. My zoom lens (Tamron 28-75) is broken, so I'm currently using my brother's Tamron 17-70 lens. I'm planning a skiing vacation where I want to capture some action shots. Should I use the 17-70mm lens in crop mode on the a7 IV or mount it on the a6700? Which setup would produce better photos?
@TomsJurjaksКүн бұрын
@@canersjourney I would take the A6700. First you will get to use all 26mpix vs 15 on A7IV. Second, the AF is better on A6700 (way more modern with the AI chip etc). And third, apsc lens is made for apsc cameras. The only advantage A7IV has is better low light performance.

@SunCrushr3 күн бұрын
Currently, (Dec 2024) the A7IV is going for $100 less than the A7CII. IMO, the A7CII is overpriced and should probably be only $300 more than the A6700, and the A6700 should be about $200 cheaper than it currently is. I'd also state that I have the original A7C, but I'm likely selling it and going back to APS-C. I haven't bought a lot of lenses for it due to the prices involved for what I want, and the lens size/weight on the APS-C lenses is just more attractive to me for what I need, which is portability. Your video sort of helped me organize my thoughts on this and helped me make up my mind. Subscribed.
@TomsJurjaks3 күн бұрын
Hey SubCrushr, I am very happy to hear this video helped you make up your mind and thanks for the sub! I think the A7IV is currently so “attractive” price wise is because we are weeks away from A7V and Sony probably wants to get their sales up before new model comes out. In the meantime, I think A7CII’s sales are strong (no data to confirm), but probably thats the reason for not lowering the price. At the same time I feel like A6700 is very well priced. It’s incredible what you get for those 1200 or 1300$

The 24-105 really needs updated at this point, it’s probably okay on lower megapixel bodies… Hope they make a new version that does well on a 61+ mp body, and it would be cool if they extended the range to 24-120 like Nikon (but only if they can do it without sacrificing image quality) - I’ll probably be buying the 24-70 GM II as well, even though it’s annoyingly expensive… OR I might just move over to medium format 100+ mp cameras/lenses if I am going to be dropping that much money anyway… 🙄

A company like Sirui should over-allocate resources to improving autofocus, and try to solve this FIRST before developing a lens lineup. They suffer from years of negative reputation and it takes a long time to work past that stigma..before people stop being afraid of the company's autofocus. I just asked a few photographers and videographers if they will consider a Sirui or TTArtisan or 7Artisan and they all said the same thing *"too afraid of the autofocus"*

Hi, thanks of the great video! But I don't understand the benefit of the back button focusing. You say that as long as you hold the AF button it will focus...so what's the difference with that and half press on the shutter button? I must not be understanding some important difference 🙂
@TomsJurjaks17 күн бұрын
@@1010AllOne thanks! The difference is that with back button focus I can focus on a subject with back button focus, release it, then reframe the shot (focus is still on the subject) and then I can fire away my shots and focus won’t change. Now, if I would have my focus on shutter, it would refocus every time I want to take a photo unless I switch to manual focus. With Back Button focus I don’t need to do it
@1010AllOne17 күн бұрын
@@TomsJurjaks thank you. Forgive me for going deeper, but, if the focus is so fast on the camera then what difference does it make if the camera refocuses? Sorry, I’m really trying to properly understand that function.
@TomsJurjaks17 күн бұрын
@ no worries, im here to help 🙂 its not about the speed but rather accuracy. Imagine you are doing a street photography. You see an old gentleman sitting on a bench reading newspaper on a busy street. Lots of people walk buy, cars drive in front (you are taking a photo across the street). Now you have focus on your subject while he was in the middle of the frame, but you want to use rule of thirds and want him on a side. If you would not have back button focus - most likely camera would refocus on totally different subject (usually in the middle of the frame or to whats closer to you). So not about the speed but what you want. With Back Button - I can just take photos without refocusing. There are more examples why I prefer it but its not for everyone. Some prefer focus with shutter 🙂
@1010AllOne17 күн бұрын
@@TomsJurjaks okay I get what you’re saying. So when I am in the same situation that you described, I half press and my focus locks on the the gentlemen with the newspaper and because I have it on tracking, it stays on him while I reframe. Is that the same thing then?
@TomsJurjaks17 күн бұрын
@ yes, and then you can usually take just one photo because as soon as you release the shutter, it will refocus (unless you have mad skills to keep it half pressed) while with back button focus you can just snap photos, take a pause, reframe, take more photos etc

I'm a hobbyist and i was thinking on ditching my 7 Minolta lenses for a 24-70, a 70-200 and a 200-600 (g Master line) but after testing so many lenses I've decided to stick with Sigma. Nowadays they're basically Black G Master II lenses, I dislike Sony's 30% extra money you have to pay because of the brand's ambassador and influencer campaigns. The A1 II was the last nail in the coffin for me. It's a rancid cult. Got me a Sigma 70-200 DG DN OS and I found zero complaints about it. It seems to be a fresh batch because it's parfocal, has no yellow tint and has no OSS trepidation, such were the complaints about sponsor reviewers. I had so much fun with the Minolta 80-200 G HS APO on A77II but Sony did a duck move with the adapters. You won't get quick autofocus with PDAF on adapters if you use anything that is not a Sony G SSM lens.
@adamadamis18 күн бұрын
Sigma, Tamron, Viltrox etc don't need to advertise too much, their products can be lower price, and this is enough advertising. The main brands, however, need to advertise as it's a battle for the system. SONY, Canon etc also spend lots of money on R&D for the cameras, and these cost a lot. Prices for lenses and cameras don't usually reflect actual value; they need to sell the basic cameras at a lower price than they want to attract people to the system, so conversely, the premium products are sold at a higher price to get the balance. Big companies need to advertise, pay salaries to thousands, they have lots of offices, lots of rent and other costs, PR etc.

I'll continue, of course, buying Sony bodies, but no more of their lenses. I like Sigma way more because of their quality lenses, continuous support towards us APS-C shooters, and their public relations in which they actually convey their approach, opposite to Sony who's just an anonymous corporate giant.
@adamadamis17 күн бұрын
@jhirse3547 Sigma are great, but for me, SONY lenses are even better. They have great APS-C options, too. I have the SONY 11mm 1.8, but I also have the Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 (SONY's 16-55 2.8 is superb also). SONY is an umbrella company, with many divisions, and for cameras, they have the DNA from Konica and MINOLTA, which have always been great innovators.
@Apextwins18 күн бұрын
I must say I really like 24-105 mainly because it let's you to understand what range you like mainly to work in as beginner photographer/videographer. Absoulute best as travel lens - gives so many options. While extension of barrel can be annoying at times of filming on gimbal and in some other scenarios, I think that sharpness makes up for it. One of the absolute best lenses to start Sony full frame journey with. What it helped me to understand is that I want 135mm prime for evening street photography (already have 55mm 1.8 zeiss which I love) as I really work in extended range most of the time on that 24-105. I'm thinking on moving towards Sony 2.8 70-200 or Tamron 35-150 2, 2.8 - I wonder which one is better there. Kind of feels like Tamron is mostly for photography no?

Hi, In Amazon I see that for the pro version you have a 27.6L and a 31.1L version, which size were you showing in the video, I am considering it but not sure if 31.1L would be too big. Thanks in advance.
@TomsJurjaks18 күн бұрын
I think they got it wrong on Amazon. The internal space should be almost identical. The difference however is that the 31l version (which I have in this video) is a “pro” version meaning you have more space for your gear, less for your clothes etc on top. The 27l is a non pro version, as I said, probably the same size but more space for clothes on top but fits less gear.
