There are few songs that manage to throw me into an instant state of wonder. I grew up thinking that good music was all about making complicated things sound good. Nujabes's soundtrack on Samurai Champloo opened the door for me to realize that sometimes, its more powerful to create something simple that is worth repeating millions of times. I am very grateful to have been accompanied by such a talented band and production team. This recording was all I ever wanted from my time in Berklee.

2005 living in Northern California (Bay Area) with the soft glow of adult swim on the tv . My brother and I were just a couple mixed kids from the neighborhood that shows like champloo , flcl, and bebop showed that there was a bigger world out there and that people from different backgrounds knew and appreciated the culture we came from. We had so much more to learn, so many people to meat. Our lives didn’t have to be the same cycle of poverty and frustration , we could accomplish more and we had the WANT inside of us to do so. We ended up being the first kids in our entire family line to go to college , my brother even got his masters . The people that created shows like this and the ones that brought them to the US will never know just how big of an impact they had on so many people ……

Of all the Samurai Champloo tracks (which were already quite dope), I always loved Shiki no Uta. I never thought I'd find someone who'd do a semi-rock, semi-jazz inspired cover to a lo-fi song. Aoki-san's vocals are so smooth and it compliments the astute instrumental arrangement. Great job, y'al.
