Dumb question time... is there any reason itd be a bad idea to use a horizontal 2x12 on its side as a vertical cab? Looks aside I mean..
@ZillaCabs5 жыл бұрын
@@whisperthiefmusic there are no dumb questions mate, I guarantee for ever "dumb question" asked there are a hundred other people thinking the exact same thing. In short no, the cabs are very similar and will act very similar too..... dedicated vertical cabs are normally based on a horizontal design but will just haves handles, jack plate etc in a slight different place... Speakers maybe more centered in a vertical cab but this is all small stuff, the overall design is the big thing...... I often put a Fatboy 2x12 on its end .

You guys are the best and your videos are very useful. I wanted to answer a video on the best 2x12 combination for a sound that cover the srv/mayer/bluesy style and something more crunchy sound, but not too heavy. The G12-65, in your video is very resonate on high frequency, "very bell", but horrible and really useless as soon as it starts crunching. So it will be a great idea, for bluesy sound, mix it up most of the loudspeaker, like Vintage 30 + Creamback or Gold Alnico + Greenback or G12-65 + Greenback, etc etc... With a just a couple of chords and G/B/m at 12th fret licks for a 10/15 seconds each one to tast them more possible. Imho the better solution its test them with a Strat and a Marshall Jmp clean/breakup sound. Thank you and cheers.

Thanks Fabrizio, that is very kind of you. I will get Joe on it, any excuse to let him loose on that kind of stuff. It sounds like a really interesting test... we are looking at setting up a stereo pair of mics for a more in room vibe.

@@ZillaCabs thanks a lot. I was thinking something above Vintage 30 (the best seller and more flexible loudspeaker in the market + G12h30 anniversary or G12-65 or greenback/creamback, etc. Cheers

Great video - you can hear the subtle differences - the extra physical volume of the orange cab giving that meaty authority of a 4x12.. but some of that still coming through in the angled... hmmm ... choices, choices!!!
@ZillaCabs5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark. Yeah there is a lot of choice haha, I still prefer straight front vertical cabs, just, as they sound a bit more focused to be, but the angled top speaker does give you more variety when recording... I think a lot of this is down to personal preference.

2x12 verticals are the best guitar speaker systems. You get the depth of a two-driver cab, but the horizontal dispersion of a vertical array. Horizontal 2x12s and 4x12s are the worst for dispersion. And angling the top driver is not ideal, because that reduces horizontal dispersion.

I wanna flip the script & ask; what are the teams' favourite designs?
@ZillaCabs26 күн бұрын
That's really kind. It depends on the job I guess, but my favourites are probably the vertical straight front Fatboy as it sounds huge but is easy to transport and spreads the souhnd great, and the Panhead as its again sounds massive, has a great low end response but nice and ambient too.

The Panhead is super siq! How does it handle heavier tones with the open back?
@ZillaCabs4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Eric, it handles alright for heavier playing, but if you are pushing the gain up and need a bit more of a tight low end response you can always go for a closed back version, they sound nuts!

The Vertical 2x12 is the new 4x12 IMO. Unless you're playing arenas, you don't need a 4x12 cab and why destroy your own back by lugging around 4x12 cabinets? Most of us haven't even been gigging like we used to anyway, so a 2x12 just makes WAY more sense and to me, I feel like the 2x12 sounds just as good or better atleast for the type of music I play.

Which one that fit for diezel VH4s?
@ZillaCabs4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the slow response. They would all work well with VH4 (we have one in the workshop) but the trouble is that is a large, full size head so really needs a horizontal cab, or 4x12 so it can physically sit on top.

@ZillaCabs4 жыл бұрын
@@runnningonempty we have had quite a few players go from 4x12s to a pair of Fatbabys... the down side is you are going to be pushing less air and you lose a little bit of the impact from that, there is also a small loss in the lower frequencies but not much.
