I had purchased a zimaboard (432) many months ago but never used it. Thank you for your review, as it gives me some momentum in getting it out to install something on it :)

Well, its been mentioned already, but LOL @ that sock fur/deadcat! Hey, it works though right? Just curious, would you use opnsense over openwrt for a gigabit connection? I'm leaning towards openwrt personally... Did you try irqbalance when testing with openwrt, or did you ever find the issue causing openwrt to perform poorly?

I did not experiment with IRQ balance. I read that BSD has problems with PPPoE performance in gigabit scenarios. I personally favor OpenWrt because I deploy those with Ansible but OPNsense is also excellent choice.

I can share my experience with you regarding what happens if you replace CasOS with another operating system on the internal SSD drive. ZimaBoard won't function properly, and you won't be able to boot it without an LCD monitor. This is exactly what occurred in my case.

I used to have OpenWRT and it gave me static down 987Mbps adn up 987Mbps, now I have installed OPNSense and I have now Down 790Mbps and upload 709Mbps. What can I do to increase my download speed. I'm not happy with this results. Do you have any Idea what I can do to increase my Down/Upl speed. Thank you :)

Never thought I'd listen to a man talking into his sock... ;-) I might pick one of these up for a travel router... I think pfSense is a bit heavy for a travel box, what is the Zimaboard listed under for OpenWRT. I didn't see it in the hardware list.

Haha, and I thought no one would ever ask me about my professional pop protection. 🙂 OpenWrt basically supports every x86 device. That's why not every one is listed.

Zimaboard uses realtek nics, is that working with opnsense out of the box? Drivers?
