The EGR on a diesel work opposite then on a gas engine .on a gas engine it is off at idle , and open at speed . on a diesel open wide at idle and closes as you speed up . At speed / load you need all the oxygen to burn the fuel , if the egr is somewhat open at speed you will have black smoke due to the lack of clean air .

GREAT VIDEO and greetings from England across the pond. I swapped out a sprinter 2011 engine with a 2014. Turns out the 2014 doesnt have knock sensors and the ECU is looking for them. As we all know they are a headache to replace and I think the wiring looms are different - no knock sensor wires. What Ohm resistor can I fit so the ECU thinks they are there? This would be really helpful. Many thanks!

Also the esc light stays on and the abs, brake and traction control lights are occasionally on and off mostly.

Any idea if a Mercedes E300 Turbo Actuator will work in a 2011 Mercedes Sprinter? My local yard doesn't have any Sprinters, but they do have E300's. I am basically in limp mode, no codes, just a check engine light. Can barely climb a hill, but can drive on the flat, poor accelleration. Cleaned the EGR, cleaned MAF sensor. Niether of these items effect the Turbo Actuator when unplugged, nothing noticeably changes. The MAF sensor does not change voltage with change in engine RPM (as far as I can tell). My Autel reader only connected once while trying to read codes, otherwise it spins and spins trying to connect. My next idea is to change the turbo actuator, but I don't want to spend the $200 on a new one. So.....do you think the turbo actuators are interchangeable?

+Roger G I will do that, I just did bunch of new videos I recorder on a tripod disassemble of front end and Water pump pulleys tensioner belt and a head mounted GoPro, I will need to edit the videos and add sound to them, I decided to record sound separately it’s more work but better quality, also I recorded transmission job with GoPro, today Break job on front end I will get to EGR soon

It'll run till the computer doesn't get a resistance signal from it. Get you and resistor to put on the harness. And vent the tube back into exhaust pipe.

hi, what do you think about this :EGR valve make a load whining sound when you turn the ignition on( position number 2) another post with similar problem said to check the egr relay, there is a egr relay? this not normal, what do you guys think? 2006 sprinter 2006 small scaner gave me p0088 fuel rail pressure high with the snapon gave me p2016-001 fuel rail psi manifunction fuel flow below minimun quantity .it could be that 4 months ago we did some repairs on the engine i think we change 2 injectors on diferent cylinder (like we put number injector # 3 0n number 5 cylinder and number 5 on number 3 cylinder, im not sure, but when we cleaned them , 2 of them we erase the number when we marked them)? p2527-004 egr valve open circuit (i cleaned the egr)

I cleaned my egr now it puffs crazy smoke and almost shuts off, i pushed it until it took off now it runs good but sonetimes kicks back in and no power... gonna try that doide trick ehh

It’s not always EGR, the tough part is diagnostics and if you miss something it can mislead you in a big way, and you will be on a wild goose chase with no end in sight, this is why I share everything I find and full diagnostics I did to give you better idea of your problem is same as mine and best way to fix it good luck

I replaced the egr at dealership in Denver ,cost me $390 with gasket , took a while for the smoke to clear up but seems to be running fine now, plus 2 year waranty

Hi Zimalets I have a 2010 sprinter in canada limp mode is on and codes won’t clear Codes showing 51c1, 5731, 5721 on autel at 200. If yo have any suggestions let me know. I have no other codes greatly appreciated.

I have a 2009 MB Sprinter with the 3.0 turbo diesel. 40k miles, runs great. Just started getting the p 2457 egr cooling system performance DTC severity 2 of 3 error. What would you do? I live in a county where we do NOT have emissions testing. I am all for deleting the egr system if there is a way to do it. Thanks in advance.

+jacobb dir yes I had 9 total codes, later when I have time I will add codes I got to the description, but here's what I think 8 of the codes got triggered by a bad wiring harness and 9th was EGR code, so I cleared all of them and now nothing, here's what I think if you get codes write them down, but don't let it bother you, then clear them and hope they don't come back, now if sand ones come back then you need to look at the problem, and some problems like bad Glow plug or O2 sensor you can just leave alone, but Turbo or EGR codes needs attention but still will drive but badly, now if you have low fuel rail pressure, watch out because if it's still starting it's good but soon won't start and that can be one of 2 things Bad Fuel Rail or a Bad Fuel Injector usually bad fuel injector and Fuel rail just bought it early

I had a 2007 Dodge Sprinter which goes into check engine then limp home mode. I have removed the control plug and put a 2.2 k Ohm resister in terminals 3 and 4 of the unconnected connector. Vehicle still gets check engine and then shortly limp mode with only egr code. Help

Hi Serg, I don't know if you have the time or tools, but I guarantee if you clean the filter and egr ,you would regain performance and fuel mileage..they both effect your boost level. I am really enjoying the real time videos..Thanks.

MrFarscape40 Not necessarily... The boost is controlled electronically by the ECU via the turbo Actuator. As soon as the ECU detects that the EGR is not functioning correctly, it will disable the functioning of the turbo Actuator, where the waste gate is left open and no boost is built, what Serg calls "Limp Mode". Cleaning it more likely not going to help.... If you take the EGR apart, inside of the EGR valve there a piece of plastic, a damper, that helps the EGR to smoothly open and close. Majority of times, that is the culprit of a bad EGR. You can Google "EGR Damper 2006 Mercedes Sprinter", you should be able to find the damper for about $20.

ZIMALETA HOW TO SHOW & UNBOXING Another thing that can happen, I forgot to mention it, what happened to me personally on a 2006 Dodge Sprinter 2500, I had a malfunctioning airflow meter that wasn't triggering any codes, but it was effecting the performance of the EGR, that resulted in a bad performance of the engine. I had to use a DAS system, Mercedes system, to pinpoint the culprit of problem.
