Zimbabwe inches closer to mining oil and gas in the Zambezi basin, in Northen Zimbabwe. Over the last four years, Australian firm, Invictus Enery has spent a total of 16-million US dollars on oil and gas exploration in the southern African country, and plans to start initial drilling as early as September 2022. This is great news for Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans. Sadly and I hope I'm wrong, I can't help but think that the average Zimbabwean will not see any benefit from this and that "cronyism" will be the order of the day. I agree with you but also would advise our fellow Zimbabweans that natural gas should not be burned directly to generate power, but should first serve a fertilizer plant, and the exhaustenergy from the plant will be used to co-generate power. Upgrade Kariba first before initiating in risky projects that waste stare funds Projects like these do not bring results at all.All this money must be used to upgrade Kariba so as to power our industry and improve the economy, it's the only way the majority can generate income and get jobs.Lets see what happens but this is more likely to be a flop

hopefully the gas and oil will be purified & sold from within the country & not the Nigerian way, where the continent's largest producer of oil does not have a refinery & hence sell it in raw form & only to buy it back at higher price. resultantly the country suffers a great shortage of this precious commodity.

Invectus is a privately owned company and it will operate as such. Diamonds where discovered in Zimbabwe and never benefited ordinary people not that I know of. So to say Zimbabwe is going to improve simply because of gas discovery; uuum I don't agree. Nigeria has the largest deposits of crude oil in Africa and ordinary people don't enjoy the benefits as assumed by many. Africa must operate under one law, one believe and One Spirit to enjoy all the natural heritage. Otherwise we are going to remain slaves to the system.

Invictus is a publicly listed Australian company. The production sharing agreement is already above the benchmark for neighbouring states at 55-60% for the Zimbabwean government.

As a true son of the land (Afrika), I am not happy with this scenario. I have reason to fear that Zimbabwe is not in control. This oil/gas resource will benefit the foreigner more. The question is: Who will be selling the oil/gas? If this will be sold by the foreign investor (thief), Zimbabwe has lost everything.

The gentleman mentioned that 55-60% split on profits benefits Zim more so. Your guys worries are better placed toward your government. Those thugs will try to steal the proceeds. Besides, some cases it's better for the risk factor and liability to be carried by investors. The equipment is extremely expensive & requires certain skill set that might not be available locally yet in your country. Perhaps a 50 year deal would be advisable enough to train competent workers so the state can buy out the investors share at a later stage.

@@zulub.r.u.h7846 If any Afrikan follows your thinking, Zimbabwe will be tricked. All that you have said confirms that according to you, Zimbabwe must be the led and not the leader. The resource belongs to Zimbabwe 100%. Fifty years of ripping Zimbabwe??? You are a thief.
