Shenmue 3 needs more than that to be actually a good game as Shenmue 1 & 2. QTE need to be fixed to be more complex and grounded... The story is a problem... and the game flow and loop is the worst of the saga...

Its literally the only thing wrong with 3 I think, and its a big one, I'm still grateful cause I cant stand those ungrateful types, but Sazuki was off the mark to change that, he thought dumbing down fight mechanics would "bring in casuals" it didn't it brought in zero new "casuals" and only frustrated us diehards ya know lose lose.

In general shenmue 3 sorta felt like the old games but not really, some may think it’s stupid but, I miss loading into the next areas/ rooms in the original 2 shenmue games, when the screen goes black and it shows the time date and where U are just feels right and gives me a sense of where I am and a shift in mood, this is something shenmue 3 lacked almost mirroring modern games where everything is loaded in at once. I get it I hate load times but, I never screamed at the tv when I was younger saying omg I gotta load the next area in shenmue this is annoying... it just felt right for the game. Same with the original resident evils when u go into another room / part of the mansion. It gives you a second of reprieve and adds to the tension and atmosphere...

It's pretty neat hearing something from the actual devs as it seems like a fairly tight knit project. It also would have been great to ask if they have any interest in transfering the character models, and the general aesthetic, to Shenmue III, as, aside from the questionable new mechanics, the art direction in that game is affront to the eyes, and it's really the only thing keeping me from playing it.

O man I played this in the 2000 era wow! The best fighting game, I had to learn the moves, but then after I got my head around it I took on the masses in a fight. Just wow. Btw I was young when mastering the fighting but it should hold up to this day considering Dreamcast graphics in this video!

@@mattcy6591 I didn't think it was that bad to be perfectly honest. I never ran out of health from walking on my first playthrough. It was very easy to aquire enough money to get food. In Niaowu, they gave you free apples daily so it was even easier.

A lot of people seem to be latching onto this, so I'm just going to take a moment to emphasize the "not as intrusive" part. That being said, I largely agree with @Oregon Pacifist . The stamina system just isn't as bad as a lot of people make it out to be... but it wasn't exactly a great system as implemented. I do think the CONCEPT of a stamina system could go a long way in the Shenmue series though, it's just a matter of experimenting and figuring out how best to fit it in. That being said, @NICO NFG we gave that as an example of something we COULD do, and not something we WILL do, virtually nothing about Phoenix Edition has been set in stone yet.

You gotta make everything in Shenmue II uncensored! Sadly, the only version of Shenmue II that is fully uncensored is the original Japanese Dreamcast version, but of course there's no English text/subs or snapshot feature in that version. And also accurate translations for the Japanese voices, so the subs say what they're actually saying! That'd literally be my dream mod and the perfect version of the game for me! Someone's gotta make it happen! We got What's Shenmue accurately translated with English subs, and I have full faith that the community can do it! Just been waiting for someone to make the perfect version of the games.

This project sounds really promising, it must has been hard to reverse engineer Shenmue I and II's spaghetti source code. The part about unused animations for moves sounds interesting to me i wonder if there are more Virtua Fighter 3 leftovers in there. And the possibility of having more arcade games sounds cool although i highly doubt Retroarch could provide the arcade versions of VF1, 2, and 3.

I'm positive that some vf3 leftovers are in there. Also, the thing about lib retro is that it allows you to write emulators to run rom. The vf games should be, in theory, quite possible.

@@VirtuaBros Well none of the emulators featured in Libreto can run any arcade VF games properly. The only emulator that can run Model 3 games in a playable state is Supermodel. Although there should be no problems for Saturn VF ports.

For the love of god I hope they keep the stamina system alway from this remake because I can't think of any fun/less boring way of it working on the franchise unless Ryo can earn money from thugs after beating them and then eat on restaurants like on Yakuza series or like on Metal Gear Solid 3 where Naked Snake can hunt his own food for free instead of having to work his ass to earn money and then spend on countless garlics every day all day

Shenmue 1&2 has far better graphics than Shenmue 3 because has been made with passion and feeling. Graphics are magically charming. Sega has to understand this and unfortunately Sega can not exploit the best game in history.

This has happened time and time again across multiple games. Its one thing to recreate a static environment in a new engine. Its a whole other kettle of fish to then recreate the game's functional code for gameplay, progression, inventory, animations, cutscenes, battle systems, audio etc etc.. like all other projects, this will be a glorified environment walkthrough and then fall off the map

D3t's port was buggy as fuck and borderline unplayable when it came out. Only after Sega of Japan's intervention they eradicated some of the bugs.
