Yu Suzuki: Project Berkley - English Subtitled - (15 years)

Project Berkley is a bonus GD-ROM that was included with VF3TB, and released alongside the Dreamcast in Japan 15 years ago. (November 27, 1998)
The video has Yu Suzuki talking about his older arcade games and the concepts behind creating a game like Shenmue. It reveals early pre-rendered footage, character artwork, and full 3d busts of the main characters.

I loved Shenmue and Shenmue II, but the third game was garbage. Playing through the original Shenmue for the first time, it absolutely blew my mind.

@@Incubusnut I'm not excusing Shen 3. It wasn't what it needed to be. The way I rationalised it in my mind as if it was released a year or so after Shen II's xbox release date with persistent saves carried over from II and it retained the fighting engine of the first two games. I genuinely believe it would've been received better if it was released earlier I just treated the game as a continuation of the series rather than a modern era game. Lol... Still Shenmue 4 yeah?

Has it been 15 years since something changed my life forever? Such happy memories always. No matter what, Even if Shenmue3 never will see the light of day. I just say Thank you Mr. Suzuki for giving this amazing gift to so many hearts :) I still remember spending so many days, Months and later years plugging up the Dreamcast and popping in this game. It's been 2 years since my Dreamcast died out...But when I close my eyes and picture The Dreamcast, Shenmue always comes to mind. Lan Di, Your time of Justice will come!! lol

As i see this, i feel that somewhere in the middle of the Saga (that being in 3 or 4), Shen Hua will be killed and in that an half of Ryo will be gone (as they will become lovers,and even more than that, in fact), based on that image of him screaming, from GDC 2014.

That was a really nice look into Shenmue and revealed a lot that I was clueless about... Some stuff at the beginning of the documentary was at least completely new to me.. Like Shenhau using some powers on Lan Di, and some statue mechanically opening its mouth (reminded me a bit of uncharted) a look into the next installment of Shenmue perhaps?

This is just my supposition but I've always thought that mechanical statue face thing is in the Chiyoumen headquarters. You can see a bridge extending as the mouth opens and the silhouette of someone on the other side of the face. I always imagined that's Lan Di returning to the base with the dragon mirror. I pray that we shall get Shenmue 3 one day!

I love the hell outta that music they just played when this video came on I've been searching for that sound for so long on youtube and now that i found it, it makes me wanna cry almost cause I use to have it on the last CD of shenmue when it came with 4 CD's on shenmue on Dreamcast be and I wish somebody would say that's my song and I'll be say hello!!! because you didn't bought the Japanese or hk dreamcast with vf3tb when it was launched in 1998. vf3tb was the biggest game on the dreamcast japanese launch, this was a bonus video disc entitled "project Berkeley" filled with cg teaser (much like killzone 2's infamous e3 trailer), game props, sketches and yu suzuki interview.

Lets just say at the end of Shenmue 2 Ryo got tired of taking crap from everyone, opening up every single cabinet and drore. Ryo got mixed up with the Japanese mafia. We'll just say Yakuza games are the Shenmue follow ups because I dont think Shenmue will be completed.
