As requested, let's look at painting and weathering chipped areas of zimmerit. We will look at the specific colours of zimmerit, doing a little highlighting and microchipping, as well as applying a pinwash to make the texture stand out. Nice and easy, and I hope you guys enjoy!

DISCLAIMER: I am not paid to promote any specific products or brands; I just use the products I find work best for me through my experiences. There is no reason for me to promote a bad product, as then I would not enjoy using it, not like the result on my model, and not be proud of publicizing it in a video. There's also no point in me doing this to keep up relations with a company if the only benefit would be getting more of the same products that I didn't like. I have not used every product out there, but from what I have used, I keep using the products I like, and that's why I use them in my videos. You can use whatever other products you would like to and you can feel that they are better - that is your opinion, and is perfectly fine by me, thus I hope that feeling is reciprocated.

superb weathering tutorial! works very well with a light base color, like sand yellow or a winter white wash.

i still have that zimm technique that results in a preformed robust sheet as thin\thick as you want,whatever pattern and damage you want.And you can work on it when its attached.Easy and not sticky or messy to make

but its a lot of writing if you have no interest.I thought of it while listening to adam mann mentioned he was not big on do it yourself zimm with fillas or greenstuff.And pe isnt worth the money and resin is quite delicate.So i eliminated those draw backs.I repeated it a few times.all good.

Before you begin your weathering, you painted the base coat colors using acrylic paints. What do you cover your acrylic paint job so that during washes, chipping and general weathering, what do you cover your tank with to protect the acrylic paint base?
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 7 ай бұрын
I painted the model with Tamiya acrylics which are extremely durable and not susceptible to the enamel thinners used in the washes. But, I will generally apply a satin varnish (I prefer the VMS Satin) to protect the finish and give a smoother surface for the washes to flow nicely over.

Thanks Jerry :) yeah I know they are not as good as the molded on stuff or doing it by hand but I can't do this myself and no kits come with this MIAG zimmerit pattern. After the weathering I think it came out quite well :)

Great video man...I have a question for you, what is the best dirt pigment you can have in your opinion? Just starting out and picked up some vallejo European earth pigment but I don't like it lol any suggestions for a beginner?
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 6 жыл бұрын
I recommend some other brand....Mig AMMO, MiG Productions, AK Interactive, 502 Abt., Wilder, etc. I find the Vallejo pigments do not stick very well, are quick thick and clumpy, and are weird colours. I don't use them for those reasons.
@monster85100

Great video. I plan to use this technique on a Mid Tiger 1. Do you know if the zimmerit was applied over red oxide primer or the base colour? Thanks. Mick.
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 6 жыл бұрын
On a Tiger it should be just like how I did it in this video. Primer, zimmerit, top colours...meaning you see the zimmerit colour upon chipping. The only exceptions are King Tigers which were primed before and after the zimmerit, and Panthers which were painted yellow before the zimmerit was applied, so you'd see red or yellow in those cases instead of the zimmerit colour.
@scoobytopdog
@scoobytopdog 6 жыл бұрын
Panzermeister36 Thanks for that. My Tiger is currently red oxide overall, so I’ll apply the zimmerit straight on to that.

Great video, I am curious do you know what the colour of a tiger I chipped zimmerit would be, as in my panzerwrecks Normandy 2 they seem to be silver and white?
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 6 жыл бұрын
Because you can find surviving equipment, colour photos, documents for how they would be prepared at the factory, and so on. When I was talking about the King Tiger I was referring to an example that was dug up in France a few months ago in great condition.

Hi, another great video. Can I ask which kit this is please?
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark. This is the Dragon StuG III Ausf.G Alkett May 1943 kit I believe but I heavily modified it to be a Miag November 1943 vehicle (so changing the tools, fender supports, engine deck, drive sprockets, and adding the zimmerit). The kit unmodified is very good though!

What satin varnish do you use? Is it thinned heavily or lightly?
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 7 ай бұрын
I use VMS Satin which doesn't need to be thinned. I just airbrush it directly. The VMS Matte Varnish is what I use for the final sealing coat.

@@Panzermeister36 I was trying to look up a video tutorial that you made (I believe) or someone else made where you mix Tamiya Clear and something else and that becomes the protective layer. Or was I missing something? I am having so much frustration right now trying to master a technique to make my tanks look like yours and some of the other modelers I see on KZbin like Night Shift
@Panzermeister36
@Panzermeister36 7 ай бұрын
I've used Tamiya XF-86 "flat clear" mixed with some X-22 "clear" to make a satin but VMS is easier as it's just perfect straight from the bottle
