The gear in that storage locker appears to have belonged to Joey Trujillo, a session guitarist from Pheonix, AZ. From very brief research, I discovered that his genre seems to have been jazz funk, that he played on an album by Linda Herre "Now & Then" (1976), Pages "Future Street" album (1979), a single called "Movin' Out Back" by Diana Lee (1992), and the Dave Cook and Intensity album "Groovin' In The Desert" (1999), as well as touring with Sister Sledge in the late Nineties. He died on May 13, 2021 from cancer aged 69.

Blackface started in '63 or '64. That's why the first Blackface Bassman's had circuit designation of AA864. However, there was also a transitional Blackface phase where the amps had the black face panel, but used the Brownface circuits to use up the remaining inventory of Brownface parts. These were called the "Tuxedo" amps. Mojotone can make a replacement speaker baffle and back panel for the Twin Reverb. They actually make "Fender Licensed" replacement cabinets, and the Blackface Twin Reverb is one of them. With measurements, they can probably make a new back panel for the Vox Cambridge too.

blackface Twin Reverb was made between 1963 and 1967. The silverface came out in late 67. Just FYI never power on a tube amplifier without the proper speaker load connected. probably the main thing that destroys tube amps is people turn them on by mistake with no speaker connected. also those old tube amps without ground connection can shock you or worse. i always turn them on the first time with a stick and dont touch the chassis until i can measure the chassis to ground to see if there is high voltage floating on the ungrounded chassis.

@AnodyneHipsterInfluencer Жыл бұрын
Awesome find. That blackface Twin Reverb is killer. You could always plug it into an external speaker cab to try it out. What's odd is the drip edge front panel grille. The "drip edge" was a very limited feature that was only on the earliest silverface amps in 1968 (blackface went from sometime in mid to late '64 through the end of '67/first weeks of '68 as they transitioned to silverface and used up all their parts). So either that grille is from a silverface Twin _or_ it's an *exceedingly* rare, late 1967/VERY early '68 blackface that had a drip edge front panel grille. I tend to doubt it just because I've _never_ seen such a thing but it is of course possible. Especially with 60's Fender stuff that went through _so_ many aesthetic changes so there are always transitional oddballs that will have features from multiple era's. Like the early "blackface" Bassman amps you see sometimes that still had the brown panel era chassis, "cupcake" knobs and with the brown panel era circuit with the "presence" control. As well as the ones that had the newer blackface era chassis and circuit with no "presence" control but still had the brown panel era "cupcake" style knobs. You could also consider putting the Twin Reverb into a head cabinet. They sell them online. A lot of players would find a lot of use from a Twin Reverb in a head cabinet. Its easier to transport, can be paired with any speakers/speaker cabinet and for session guys in particular, it can be kept in a multi-head road case, as well as be kept in the control room, separate from the cabinet when overdubbing parts which is very convenient in the studio. Congratulations!

I used to have a music man 1-12” RD with the EV speaker that you also found in another cab in that locker. The music man I had with the same crème colored tolex(?), was made in the early 80’s. I bought one somewhere between 1982-84 and it was a great amp. I don’t think they had that crème colored tolex until the early 80’s but I may be wrong. I’m curious if there’s a model number on the back somewhere? That looks very much like my old amp but with a taller or just larger overall size cabinet almost like it could accommodate 1-15” speaker. I’ve seen great blues guitar player Chris Cain use the same amp I had. They were thought of back then as having a similar sound to a Dumble. Seeing that guys green Strat with the EMG’s reminds me also of a Tyler Strat I had from 1987 that I changed the pickups to EMG’s cause Larry Carlton had them on his Valley Arts Strat in a star licks video he did back then. So maybe the original owner was into a similar style of music. That Mesa Boogie Studio preamp that you showed in the rack was also a common preamp to use in recording sessions in the 80’s, so it looks like this guy was a serious player and a real connoisseur of great gear. That lockers full of treasures

During the winter of 2013, I spent a month helping a sound systems business from Spokane with the renovation of the sound system in a 1905 church building that I was warned (by the sound engineer) had the original electrical (knob and tube) system in the attic, "It's still hot so be careful up there." The biggest improvement to the sound system was adding a ground to the electrical circuits in the space, which removed the constant 60 cycle hum that impacted the sound. I was thankful that the new TVs were not installed before addition of that ground leg. Replacing or adding a three-wire plug to the amplifiers is a good thing.

The Twin has its inputs right on the back panel! They're 1/4" jacks, including the one where the internal speakers plugged in (the one on the left that simply says "Speaker" .... the right one is "extension speaker"). You didn't need to replace the speakers to test it, just plug it into a cab that is a minimum of 8 ohms. That said, it's probably best that you didn't, as that is an old tube amp that's sat for years and the capacitors, if they are original, will be paper and oil and may need reforming, so your tech will bring it up gradually from 0 to 115 on a Variac. That Boogie isn't worth what the Mark series models were, but you can still get a good 600 to 800 for it, depending on the local market. I have to admit I wanted you to plug in the Twin with a cab, but at the same time, that was a selfish desire, as it would be better to bring it up slowly on a Variac.

The Fender Twin black panel is found up until the end of ‘67 but the drip edge is usually ‘68-early ‘69 with a silver faced panel. It’s not impossible you have a late ‘67 or early ‘68 black panel (left over) with the updated drip edge cover but I’ve never seen one before… also no speaker so it could be a parts special. The black face circuit could be authenticated by a specialist. The first silverface Twins (drip edge) used the blackface AB763 circuit until May 1968, when Fender switched to the AC568 circuit.

Fender Twin Reverb amps of that vintage do not have speaker output wires, the speakers were wired to a 1/4" jack and plugged into the back, where it is clearly marked. You can plug that directly into that Fender 2-12 cabinet with a regular guitar cable.

If you play it a lot the nylon stings will settle into tune in about a week or two. Then after two or 3 gigs they need to be replaced. I change mine every 2 months or so depending on how many gigs I have. I use a Godin, LaPatrie Concert QT, sounds amazing but needs strings a lot more than a standard acoustic or electric guitar.

The Fender Twin should have a sticker on the inside left ( from the back ), of the amp. On the sticker will B a serial number. That number will provide the year and month it was manufactured.
@82ndairbornevet Жыл бұрын
Fender didn’t start adding the QA sticker until 1990

me too..I think when Zimm unscrewed the fuse and put it back in it made connection.. it’s happened to me more than once with old amps that have been sitting for awhile.

I bet the 2 12 Fender cab was for the twin as a bottom. It was common to turn them into separates in the 70s because they weighed so much. Doubtful, but they could have the original Jensens in them. That Ramirez looks like it could be a high end classical. They are the Martin of classical guitars though they make entry level guitars too. You pretty much know the rest of your find. You scored!

I have a Quad Reverb (CBS monstrosity) that uses the Twin schematic. Its only redeeming quality for carrying purposes is that it's so tall and has wheels, so that unless you have to climb stairs with it, you're fairly good to go! That said, that amp sure sounds terrific, especially after backdating the schematic to a Blackface!

The Fender is the star of the show; fully restored it will get you around $3K or so...the Mesa is a $900 amp, and the Vox will get you around $1600 when cleaned up. I would replace the the 2-prong power chords since the amps will be not 100% original after a tech has gone through them, but retain the cord for any collectors that might buy the amp. The amp market is crazy right now, prices for old stuff is as high as Ive ever seen it. Very well done with this locker, lots of WOW factor.

I service amps, and am REALLY surprised the Box fired right up. I'm wondering what it has for tubes. This locker is definitely a 90s time capsule. I would have just run the speaker out on the Blackface into another speaker cab. The Boogie F-30s are a killer clean amp, great pedal platform. The OD channel leaves much to be desired, but if you replace the midrange tone pot on the Drive channel to a 50 or 100K it will GREATLY improve it. You could do a mod to switch the value on it, but if you're selling it, it would probably be a waste of time. Of course a tube screamer or EQ do the same. The only drawback to that amp in today's guitar gear world is that I'm pretty sure the effects loop is a parallel loop, not series. People used to like them because you can adjust how much of the signal runs through what's you have running into it, and how much you bypass. You can kind of get a pseudo wet/dry multi amp sound with it. The problem is that you can't really run other preamps, modellers, EQs through them because you won't get the full signal running into the output section.

I was guessing that twin reverb was 66 or 67. I had that exact type/year amp ...until the 90s when it got stolen at a gig. Miss it, but I like my Plexis and Soldonos, now. Still, you can't beat a Fender Twin Reverb for loud and clean, or a great pedal driven amp.

I saw a glimpse of the Rodriguez in the first video. The script logo on the headstock and the laser-printed label with URL means this is a late one. I believe the date code makes it a 2008. They're still quality, though.

I've never seen a Danelectro/Silvertone bass guitar like that one; it looks to be from the same era as the amp-in-case guitars. I don't know how it would sound, but it's worth noting that John Entwistle played the bassline to My Generation on a Danelectro bass, and was using one on stage around that time (he ended up with 3 of them because he kept breaking strings, and the short scale strings that the bass was factory-supplied with weren't sold separately in England back then, so when he broke a string he just went out and bought another Dano bass)!

The Twin Reverb is a 65-67' being a blackface. That baffle is a "drip edge", however it is not original to that amp (or the chassis is not original to that cabinet), since the drip edge were only on a silverface. Very cool finds!
