Thats a great simple lure design, such nice work, I am a keen fisherman and just in the last 3-4 months got into making my own lures for me to use, I find it very interesting and rewarding, it is amazing what can be done with a simple piece of wood and an outline of what you want it to look like, keep up the great content 👌👍

Nice Build! Like the simplicity of the pattern & color scheme! I believe that opaque or flat colors look more natural and get more strikes? Also using the duck tape for your 2 part epoxy mixing dish? Of the Heddon Spook type baits! The old Rebel Jumpin Minnows were the best! One year At Houston's Spring Fishing Show Cut Rate was moving from their original Telephone Rd. They had a bathtub full of those old Rebel Jumpin Minnows for a $1.00 apiece! I was told for $500.00 I could have them all! One of my many wrong fishing choices! I bought 10, Study long? Study wrong! The new ones encased in plastic don't fish the same? Or I don't? But when you look at them with polarized sunglasses they look black! I think fish eye lenses are polarized! To filter out the sun's glare, that's why opaque & flat colors look more natural? Especially fishing for Trout in the surf or back bays! TMI!

The benefit to using 2x2 is being able to line up holes and and other cuts with the square ends still on. You can also drill the line tie and rear hook hanging on the router or by standing it up on the drill press. This make a line through really easy.

Lathing a hardwood lure is much nicer to do than most other methods for making hardwood lures and probably at the end of the day catch fish just as much as most other lures, of course depending on how and where you weight them plus wood density. I think we sometimes overthink what will work the best and imagine the best looking will work better but that's not always the case. Saying that, I couldn't catch a Pike at all once after going through all the lures in my box and I had quite a few but a guy up stream was catching every 15mins. I asked him what his secret was and he showed me a small Pike lookalike swimbait that was sold in the local tackle shop. I left and headed to the shop and ended up purchasing two, a dark one and a light one ( for cloudy or clear water ) and caught Pike repeatedly that same day with the darker one, I didn't even try the other one as I was too busy catching. I guess the more lures of different types the better if fishing different unknown waters. Those lures were lifelike and not that cheap. I also think asking someone that is catching what their secret is, is worth it too, especially if they'll share it with you 🙂 I'll subscribe now after All that waffling I have done 😆

Nice. What pen do you use to sign your lures?
@zimmtex3 жыл бұрын
It's a gel pen; you need to wait a long time for it to dry. I recently got an old fashioned quill type pen that you dip in an ink well. I've seen rod builders use them to sign their work. Can't wait to give it a try. Thanks for watching!

Im have a problem with my lure rolling and solution to correct this?
@zimmtex2 жыл бұрын
The trick is to put weight on the bottom axis of the lure. Assuming you've done that, you may need more weight to add stability. If adding more weight makes it sink, you may need to try a more buyoant wood like basswood or balsa. Hope this helps.

Great video thanks< I just got back into fishing after 20 years and I want to learn how to make lures, I did buy a kit on Amazon to make rooster tail in line spinners last week and I made a few as soon as I got them and went out to give them a try the fist lure was a red rooster tail and with in 20 minutes I had 2 browns and 3 rainbow. I want to get into making lures like you do for the lakes here in Pennsylvania we have some monster musky and pike. Last year a new lake record musky 87 inches the old record was 64 1/4. i would love to hook on to a monster like that! Thanks for the great videos!! >> Do you have a video on how you do your air brushing i would like to learn how it's done??
