In this video i share the history of the Birchenough Bridge in Chipinge, Zimbabwe, the bridge was built with funds from the Beit Trust, when the Birchenough Bridge was constructed it was the third largest single arch suspension bridge in the world only surpassed by the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia and the Bayonne Bridge in the United States.

Thanks for the great history lesson. The Bridge was ahead of its time.If the Regime looted less, they would have enough funds to upgrade the bridge to maintain its functions, that way it won't be in danger of collapse. Till that is done, they must maintain limits for vihecles that can cross it

This is painful to know that we give little to no respect of such a historic structure. However i blame Robert Mugabe's government they never built anything tangible since the late 90's

Amazing feat of engineering. I heard that all the engineering and metal work was done in UK, then the components were shipped to Zimbabwe for assembly. A pity there hasn’t been much maintenance.
