I'd be curious to know about the vessel starting at 5:54. What was that and how much it weighed. Holy shit at the axles on the dolly. I worked at a refinery once and we brought in a reactor for a hydrotreater unit that was 375 tons. The crane that lifted it into place was a Demag 800 ton that had a Demag 400 ton along to rig it. The company was Nichol's Construction outta Baton Rouge, LA. They handed us some stickers of the 800 ton crane being used to lift the space shuttle onto the back of the 747.

I saw a documentary once on German television that covered the transfer of a tunnel boring machine from the manufacturer somewhere in Southern Germany to the building site in the Swiss alps. They also covered the preparation (planning the route, talking to all relevant authorities, taking down traffic lights, removing parked cars, changing bus or train time tables, etc.) and the aftermath (covering the damages to the corners of buildings, replacing flower beds, etc.) All of that in a densely populated area... Amazing!

0:19 - I saw a truck like that (smaller truck, smaller "T" concrete beam) take a left turn onto a side street and the beam broke. Shocking, but concrete beams are engineered to carry major loads in certain directions only. Certainly ruined that truck driver's day. 6:30 - 26 axles on each end!

What a thrilling display of engineering and skill! I’m amazed by how these massive trucks can navigate through different terrains. However, I can’t help but feel a bit anxious watching some of those close calls with obstacles. It really puts into perspective how important it is for these operators to have a deep understanding of their vehicle's capabilities. Does anyone know how these drivers develop such an intuitive sense of their truck’s dimensions? It seems like a fascinating blend of science and art to get it just right!

In 1992, Mammoet loaded the Saltire offshore platform topside out onto the sea going barge at the AMEC fabrication yard at Wallsend on the UK's River Tyne (previously the William Press yard). The Saltire topsides weighed approximately 9500 tonnes. The load out process took around 6 hours, excluding welding of sea-fastenings. On arrival at the field location, Saltire's topsides was subsequently lifted onto its jacket in the North Sea by a single crane barge lift.

When my little brother says he wants to be a truck driver, these are the kinds of things he wants to drive. He drove a trailer from our home to the shopping center, reversed the vehicle and drove it back. He was about 13. It was his first time. Obviously my dad and the truck driver were with him,... but it was his first time. And it was 11pm in the night. I can't even drive a normal car to save my life though I plan on learning, while he was born with cars in his head. When it comes to driving I have mad respect for that kid and for anyone who drives these incredible vehicles.
