Apart from his touch, pass, turn, vision, ability to keep the ball, I always felt Zidanes greatest strength was the way he controlled the big matches. He destroyed Brazil by taking control. He scored two against them in an earlier final (1998). He scored 2 against England in Euro 2004. Deflated us. Scored a free kick and last minute penalty. He beat Spain by dominating midfield and limiting Xavi and Iniestas influence on the game. He was a boss for this reason. When I think Zidane I think control and someone who has a stronger grip on the game than his opponents. It helped some extremely average France teams do very well. Favourite player ever and very lucky to have seen him (Man U v Juventus 1997 and again in 1999). Props to Roy Keane for keeping him under pressure in 1999. Stop Zidane, you stop Juve. He knew that. Zidane went global when he went to Real Madrid but true football fans knew when he was at Juventus and pre World Cup 1998 that he was a very special player. That lazy style, impossible to get the ball off, grows in influence as the game wears on. He takes over slowly. Mesmerising.

Makes it look so easy and no effort here. And I know it's against this kind of competition, (with absolutely no disrespect) but still, to move a ball around like he does is quite hypnotic. No wonder he's gone down as one of the greats of the game. No doubt he could have waltzed through every player on that pitch 3 or 4 times and then scored at will but his personality shines through as well. Legend, wish there was more like him now.

zidane took bordeaux at a young age to a european cup final hence why juve wanted to buy him, and he did a lot wid juve, who he won 2 seria a which was a hard league to perform and 3 champions league final runners up, that is success, messi's arg didn't even reach a final and arg do have talented forwards, its just that messi couldn't adapt to a different style of play as he is used to possession football, i just feel zidane had that sort of intimidating 1 man confidence in the big match
