Loved getting this detailed intimate viewpoint as it really gives you a birds-eye view into all aspects of Catamaran ownership from those that have cruised this beautiful boat. These are great videos you all do and I encourage you to do more. I love these types of causal and informative discussions that give the real truthful perspective of sailing a boat from those that do it every day and not just from a manufacturer or hopeful salesman. I hope and pray you both are doing well (missed Isabel and her narration) and are hopefully planning your next passage out of lockdown. Blessings to you both!

Another great job Ken....Catamarans are more difficult to find places to haul out, and yard costs are usually much higher too. Not all marinas are set up to accept cats either.

Yes, especially in Europe.

Coming from a non-sailing background i think I'd have to pick the Cat given the choice and excluding the cost aspect. Having said that, there's something about a mono that draws me. When I have dreams about sailing, and occasionally I do, its a mono I'm on so go figure... i think It boils down to what type of sailing you want to do and how you want to do it. Thats just my 2 cents. Ken, I loved the video. I really really wish you would put out a video daily..lol

You can check out, but no place to go. A friends boat checked out 10 days ago and is sailing to Australia (they are Australian). They were able to work through all the red tape and able to fuel up in Malaysia, and Indonesia. But they are not able to stop and smell the roses in Malaysia. There is a chance they will be able to stop in Lombok if they need to. Since I am American, I can't go to Australia, and with all the regulations within Australia, I don't think I would want to be there. Now is not the right time to cross the North Indian Ocean, I will wait 'til January and hopefully cross Maldives, Seychelles, and then to Tanzania.

Hi Scott, I had planned to do an interview and tour with Greg and Wendy on Verite long before I knew that Verite would be reluctantly put up for sale. But, even knowing this I did continue with the tour and interview because Greg and Wendy have a lot of experience (much more than I), and I thought the viewers of this channel would be interested in the content provided by Greg and Wendy. If this helps sell Verite, it would be a win, win. I am not trying to sell Verite, just trying to offer content that would be interesting and informative for all our subscribers. Ken

@@SailingAquarius Have a look ! as well at the newest one which is the 41 DS its awesome. And please let me know your thoughts !
@SailingAquarius4 жыл бұрын
I looked at the 45 DS, and it's a nice boat. $350K to $470K 10 year old 45 DS on Yachtworld. Depending on what you want to do, this could be the perfect boat. Downsides - 1. No skeg, if you're cruising this is a downside. If you're racing it's not. 2. I like the Ketch rig for cruising. More sail configurations. 3. Not sure about build quality, many of the production boats do not have the same build quality as the Amel. Might not be an issue, as I am not sure if the build quality is the same or better than a Beneteau, or a Jeanneau. Would be interesting to see the difference in storage space between a SM and the 45 DS. For about $400K or so you can get a really nice Amel 54. I think that the Amel 54 would be a MUCH better deal than the 45 DS. Comfort, value, stability, and safety.... There's my thoughts......
@stephanemeyer76404 жыл бұрын
@@SailingAquarius I agree with most of what you said, especially regarding build quality of production boats in general. But this DS concept is so nice you really live like in a cat without the associated maintenance and ownership costs and in some places like the med this is really a big issue. The amel 54 is awesome but I'm not sure that you'd get more space in the cockpit and that you'd lose this cave feeling associated with all central cockpit boats. Unfortunately unless you have double the budget you stand no choice but to go for a production cat or an old top shipyard boat like the amel ... this moody is still a production boat but it's different and a very nice option imho. Have a great sail !
@SailingAquarius4 жыл бұрын
You are correct about the cave feeling in the Amel SM and 54, but once you have been sailing for a long time..... many times you want to go into that cave, because you are always in the sun. :)

im not an expert, but i do follow quite a few sailors on you tube...from my observations a Cat may be superior if someone wishes to skitter around the bahamas or some local sailing area...But for crossing oceans and exploring the world the Monohulls are vastly superior...every time i see a Catamaran crossing Oceans.. they inevitably wind up Motoring for day after day after day sometimes more than 20 days...they also seem to spend Months cowering in fear while waiting for "perfect" sailing conditions.. i think Cats are a good choice for the semi retired sailor that has nowhere to go anytime soon
@SailingAquarius2 жыл бұрын
Different boats for different folks! There are good ocean going Cats, but in the end - a good blue water mono will be safer and more comfortable in bad conditions. But, the Cat will be a better place to hang out once you get to your destination. There is no perfect boat. Ken

Captain Ken. I can tell you this rate now. I paused the video at 48 seconds, and I'm going to write my comment... It only matters on what you can afford, to get yourself out there and start cruising. Both types of vessels, have plusses and minuses next to their name. Period...

I only had monohulls. But when I tried a multihull, I preferred the multihull.
@SailingAquarius4 жыл бұрын
They have a much bigger living area, and they are much more stable at anchor. The living experience is better at anchor, but sailing a monohull around the world might be a little safer. That said, a good skipper is going to get the mono, or the cat around the world safely.

Is it fare to say that catamarans are more suitable for older people since they don’t heel ?!
@SailingAquarius4 жыл бұрын
No, I would say it just depends on the personal preferences. Many young sailors are looking at Cats these days! You have to take everything into account... Upfront costs, speed, cost to maintain, comfort at anchor, comfort during passage, etc... Then tick the boxes that are important to you.
@Mr.Alia634 жыл бұрын
Sailing Aquarius Around The World so when is the verdict Ken ?
@SailingAquarius4 жыл бұрын
It all depends on what you want to do. If you want to sail around the world in 4 to 6 years, and you will be on the move alot, I would tend toward a ketch rig monohull. If you want to hang out in the Caribbean every year, and head down to Trinidad each off season, I would definitely tend toward a Cat. In fact if I was not making more than 600 mile crossings, I would probably tend toward a cheaper CAT like a Lagoon. I could not afford a good Blue Water Cat, so would not consider it just do to cost. I feel very safe in the SM, but I still believe that the Amel54 is the best boat created for a 4 to 6 year circumnavigation, period, end of story! The SM is great for the price and is just as safe, but the Amel54 has all the upgrades, and new toys! So, If I were to do it all over again, what would I do...... I would buy Aquarius in a heartbeat!
@Mr.Alia634 жыл бұрын
Sailing Aquarius Around The World I completely agree Amel 54 is best but now they don't make them any more, they are not giving sailors options, now it's either Amel 50 or 60!
