And when I tell you I've been watching a lot of videos trust me I've been watching a lot and yours are always very informative useful and fun to watch so thank you very very much I have just started getting into hydroponics and it's a real Joy to do as a hobby

@that_one_guy_Dave3 жыл бұрын
@@richardkempton1894 not so good. Got too much sunlight in the location it was in. Grew good until the algae took over and smothered the roots.
@richardkempton18943 жыл бұрын
@@that_one_guy_Dave ah that's too bad. Thank you for answering. I'm growing indoors so I will control the light, hopefully I can avoid the algae. You think you could have had better results using a bubbler in there instead of Kratky?
@that_one_guy_Dave3 жыл бұрын
@@richardkempton1894 I definitely think that is something I will go with if/when I try it again. That, and trying to block out more light. I feel the movement of bubbles would prevent the algae from starting.

Khang, I learned a lot from your channel and others like yours and am in the middle of starting up hydroponics. I wanted to grow herbs and lettuce and purchased the CZ brand net pots (they are thick and I like the big lips on them because they fit well with 3"-ish pickle bottles well). I'm going to feed them with Maxigrow but I hear the non liquid fertilizer is hard to dissolve, so we'll see. But I'm glad I got it instead of Masterblend for a beginner since that requires more stuff to be added for the plant to take up nutrients properly. I've got 2" rockwool and am purchasing the 1" size as well since I'm using them with clay pellets (hydroton?). I'll be growing them in a sunny window and covering up my bottles with a dark cloth to prevent algae. I'll eat the herbs, but I just want to grow the lettuce in the glass containers bottles for looks (I have lots of beautiful plants and the lettuce would look great with them on the shelves I built over my window). I do plan on growing lettuce mix in soil so I can have baby greens to eat. Wish me luck with my Kratky! :)

I've had amazing success so far using miracle gro water-soluble plant feed instead of hydroponic feed, i just use 1/4 of the amount it says on the packet for my feed mix , very cheap and easy way to do this, you should try a seed to fruit using only miracle gro 😉

Hey, do you think simply taking a 5 gallon bucket, cutting a 2 inch hole in the lid, and inserting a cotton tee shirt to “wick” the water to the bottom of a 5 gallon grow bag wound work ? The grow bag simply sits on top of an equal area of wick.. on top of the 5 gallon jug. I like the idea of being able to move the grow bag if necessary.

@TerranceShaw4 жыл бұрын
As far as the nutrients: you can let it go down by half the container, and then top off with water. Just keep a close eye on the PPM and replace the nutrients entirely when it gets too low. It's important to remember that plants will consume the nutrients they need, which means that if you just top off with more of the same level of nutrients each time, you could eventually experience nutrient burn. And an acceptable light schedule would be twelve on, twelve off or sixteen on, eight off.
@googlehelpdesk4 жыл бұрын
for lighting schedule you can do 24/7 on for the veg cycle and 12 or 11 1/2 hours for flower cycle.

I have watched many of your videos and am amazed by the simplicity you bring especially to new hydroponic people like me. I am wondering if you can help answer this question. You use tap water, which I would love to use but our water in Canada is chlorinated and I have heard that it might kill my plants. I have been using distilled water up to now. What do you think?
@KhangStarr4 жыл бұрын
My water is chlorinated as well. If you are concern about that, just put your water in the bucket and let it sit for 2 days. Personally, I feel distilled is a waste of your money.

Yours is a very inexpensive and clever way to grow. It is interesting and a good way to start seedlings with rockwool and water/nutrients; but if you must water these seedlings every few days individually it is laborious for small amount of food. Here's my idea: Why not use that 5-gallon bucket filled with soil and about 40 rockwool-size holes directly into the side staggered all around, then stick the rockwool seedlings into the holes on an angle if you can; watering is the same as you have been doing except you don't have to deal with flimsy sandwich bags and you water all at one time. Oh, every day turn the bucket 1/4 turn, and make sure there are holes at bottom of bucket for drainage. In 5 gal bucket you will get so much food, and plants will grow as fast as your hydro system as your water is not moving so is not optimum. Put three buckets atop one another and you can feed a family of six. ciao.
@troye7586 Жыл бұрын
why do that when you can use a storage container drill 6 holes and fill with nutrients and never have to water
