I have tried lots of methods for installing a zip fly. This is my absolute favorite method because of accurate way the zipper falls to the second side. No pins ❤️

Hi Whitney, not sure if this has already been suggested or planned but I would love to see a tutorial on installing zips in knit fabrics, such as a hoodie with a front zip opening for example. Also, a tutorial on shortening the zip would be great. Thank you so much, you're my absolute favourite xx

Thank you for sharing Whitney! Could you please consider creating a tutorial on adding a side zipper to a dress or top? Many patterns call for a 22" center back zipper, but long center back zippers are nearly impossible to zip from bottom to top by oneself. Plus, many neckline styles are roomy enough to not require a closure at the neckline. In these cases, eliminating the center back zipper altogether and having an invisible side zipper would make it easier to slip a semi-fitted to fitted garment on and off. Whitney these have been great tutorials. You talked about the types of exposed zippers that have lace, crystals beads etc on them Where do you find those. I want to start putting some exposed zippers in dresses.

I will try this method... sometimes when I try another method (like in the Dawn Jeans instructions, the zipper gets kind of exposed because it's not inward enough and the front doesn't cover it or barely does. Do you know why? I'm not sure why this happens. This method seems like a fool-proof way to get a professional finish.

I’ve done the Dawn method as well and had the same issue. I much prefer this way. In order to do this on the Dawn’s, you just need to attach the fly pattern piece onto the front pattern piece to create a grown on fly instead of a sewn on fly (both sides will look the same). You can install it this way and then you don’t get the gap.

Are the dark fly pieces included in the pattern or are they something you drafted? I haven’t watched the whole video yet so I am not sure where those pieces come from. Thinking of buying the Glissando pattern during the current sale but definitely prefer the zip to the button fly.

They were included, but I used them differently than intended.

@@TomKatStitchery thanks, I found your other video which showed putting the zipper into the Glissando pants and that was exactly what I needed to see. Now the skirt one makes sense. I ordered the pattern and someday I will get to sewing it! I love the green stretch denim you made for your daughter. I appreciate your sharing your online fabric resources as all the fabric stores in my area are gone except for Joann.

Did I miss something? How do you cut off the top of the zipper and make it so that the zipper pull doesn’t come off the top?

For some zipper installations you will have that issue and need to attach a stopper (I can do a video on that). However, when you have a waistband that gets sewn over the teeth, that acts as the zipper stop.
