Interesting, I didn't know about the flat stock vs dimpled inserts. I'm newish to collecting and only recently started acquiring older models. I recently got a 1991 Marlboro branded model that I love and has become my daily carry, and I had to go check... it does indeed have a flat insert. Cool! 😄

@@Zippofanatic77outdoors is there any particular source for parts that you can recommend? I've been wanting to tinker with doing some minor restorations but the parts seem hard to come by? People have said to search on Alibaba but they're probably junk? Edit: The rivets in particular are what I'd need so I can clean up the striker wheel and cam. I'm bidding on a Zippo that would need this sort of work done :)

@@chrisoakleyfx aliexpress the parts a just fine buds. They aren’t junk I use them in my restorations. Or u can go to that lighters parts store and spend 10 times more than what u would on aliexpress. That website just gets the parts from there and marks it up. Ridiculous really. But that’s where I get mine. They all work just fine

Do people insert more than one flint into the tube so the flints replace themselves?

That won’t happen. It will Always jam first. One flint or two when it gets small enough it jams.

Years ago I got a few from pawn shops and now they’ve all stopped taking them. I’m hitting yard sales and antique shops. Sucks because 15 years ago I was in zippo heavy in some pawn shops in Las Vegas. There still around just need to look harder but I’m kicking myself. I had a phatasma or whatever in my hand at one point years ago

It's a bummer they changed my flat insert to other when i send my High polished chrome to repair the spark wheel. I just don't like new one. What i like they fixed hinge, it was worn.

Yeah zippo doesn’t fix inserts. They only replace them. Never send them in.
