From a survival perspective, having a small solar charger and the arc type lighter probably means the most uses.

After getting shouted at right at the beginning, I thought I wasn't going to watch this video, but I was interested, and eventually when you calmed down, it was very beneficial. I just ordered the rechargeable insert for a very old engraved gold-plated Zippo case that says "Love, Louise" on it. Thanks.

Yeah...I had a bit of extra energy at the beginning of the video. Had so many comments on it so I cut that part out already. You're welcome. 🤣
@andreashauschild77573 жыл бұрын
Two parts I would miss. First, when you need to see in the dark, the original Zippo does better, gives more light, and is easier to handle. Second, Once you light the original zip, you can easily manipulate the lighter with two fingers to any place you want too light stuff. I know these are relative minor things, but for these two facts I ended up going back to the original. Yes, its more work, but I always thought there is something satisfying filling a zippo. But I am old and like that fact that a 80 year old design is still very viable, gives me hope for myself. hehe.

I'm no kid myself, but there's one serious drawback to using a Zippo for light...the case gets too hot fairly quickly, and if there's anything combustible in the air, it's a great way to set it off...ok, that's two things, but who's counting? It's better to keep a flashlight, of one sort or another, where you can easily find it, like I do. I have an excellent little keychain light (sadly, the spring sprang out when I opened it to change the battery a couple of months ago...oops) that I've been using for decades--shaped like a little flying saucer.

Hell yeah brother.. plus that arc insert, can ignite diesel fuel too. In case the Frod F-350 King Ranch edition "power stroke" won't turn over. The only real drawback to Zippo's is the fluid literally starts slowly evaporating right after you fill it. It's on a 1-2 week maximum countdown to being empty. And that's if you just let it sit. Honestly, we prefer to use VP racing fuel or kerosene. Lasts twice long.

What Thunderbird offers that Zippo does not is a butane with a spark wheel, holes in the wind shield, and a soft flame. I got this for my brushed brass 1941 replica to maintain the original look and operation. The only caveat is that the gas likes to shoot past the spark without igniting, which can be solved by simply tilting the lighter so that the gas is flowing over the base of the spark wheel. Other than the lack of the strong smell of traditional liquid lighter fuel, it seems just like the original.

Vector is ok but Calibri is cleaner and less expensive man with a metal filling spigot. On the butane inserts whats the heat from sustained use like on these? Suppose you can heat wrap them just wondering what the potential for catastrophic failure is from the heat. Like the idea behind using what I always considered a over rated but unique lighter. Fill em halfway and look where the spark grounds when they don't light. Dual one just seems like it would burn through the tank and seems overkill for pocket carry.
@TechnicalMechanical4 жыл бұрын
I've had pretty good experience with the Vector 5x filtered. I have read about some people having issues with Calibri clogging nozzles but I haven't try it myself so can't speak for or against it. Good point on the metal filling spigot. I have actually dropped a Vector can before and broke the spigot redering it useless. Only time will tell on long term reliability of these Zippo inserts. The powerful jet flame and not having the fuel dry out like standard Zippo is nice. For possible survival situations I always have a ferro rod as a backup.
